Another Yamaha RX build...wait, this time it’s different

I casually mentioned it in another thread that I am rebuilding not 1 but 2 RXs. There were 3 culprits involved in the build including me.

Me: Dude my RX is going to the ground, I have to rescue it.
Tinu: Yours is a runner, why don’t you ride it then.
Me: I don’t have the drive yet, I wanna fix mine and then ride.
Tinu: Me too
Me: let’s fix yours as well.
Tinu: Mine is too far gone
Me: What do you mean?

Well this is what he meant

Me: Dude this is sad, is that a tiger?
Tinu: Yes
Me: We have to save the tiger

Me: Get the supplies
Tinu: Here you go !

Foby: Guys I am smelling nostalgia here.
Me: yeah, do what you did last time
Foby: OK I am getting on the autorick like last time.

It was all crazy, the other RX is mine, which is before the build.

Next was the tear down and starting the bike, yes in this order !

we started removing all the superficial stuff like, tank seat etc..

To be continued….

What is the story behind the Batman 135? You purchased it recently?

Also, I am curious to know, what is the HIT can doing next to the WD 40?

re: Another Yamaha RX build...wait, this time it’s different

After the strip down we had to take a call, should we use the chassis or buy a new one? Well after pulling the chassis out I took a small hammer and hammered the entire chassis to check for rust, to our amazement it was mostly surface rust.

Disclaimer: Well I have little less pics from here on, reason both mine and Tinu’s hands were greasy and Foby, the designated photographer had a vintage show shoot.

Well, the trip to the powder coating guys is worth a mention.
I had a car trunk full of parts and went to powder coating guys, one guy comes and inspects everything and says

Him:who has stripped the bike?
Me: I did
Him: why did you degrease the surface?
Me: , aren’t you guys supposed to do that before powder coating
Him: no, please get it done and bring it, paint won’t stick
Me: That’s not what your guy told me
Two more guys come there and say
Yeah he is right this needs to be properly worked upon
Me: I want to meet the other guy please call him
Them: we don’t know who you spoke to earlier (now couple of more guys are there and it’s a sizable crowd)

The guy (I spoke to) enters the compound, I was pretty crossed by then and he looked at me and smiled and said

Him: you shouldn’t have spoken to the workers I gave you my commitment
by this time all the workers dispersed
Me: ok, when can I expect them back?
Him: Tomorrow or day after, please call and confirm

After 2 days (Saturday) I call and collect the pristine looking chassis from him and paid around 1000 RS, for a bunch of stuff along with the chassis. The cost is completely justified; even painting it would cost 3 times that amount if I went to get them painted

By Saturday mid night h had completed the cycle build and got the tank painted. Sunday got the engine painted and Sunday started assembling the rest.

But got stuck when opened the carburator(we started the bike with my rx 100 carburator)
there was 7 years of gunk. Then tinu swang in to action and cleaned the entire carburator

in the meantime Foby distracted me with this

I have no idea how the vehicle so huge is stuck like a lizard on the slushy trail, most of the week I was busy with the build and then this, during the entire drive my heart was in my mouth. Pure witchcraft!

The "batman bike" belongs to Tinu, my friend. Since the bike didnt move an inch in the last 7 years a lot of things made their homes in various parts of the bike. I wish i could buy this beauty, the engine is still on the stock piston and has good compression.

The chassis is not that bad all that is surface rust, after powder coating its all new, I live near technopark.

This saterday we completed the build, after 7 years the bike did a 7km journey on its own and was delivered at Tinu's at 10 PM saterday. This is the end result, thanks for reading.

Re: Another Yamaha RX build...wait, this time it’s different

Hi Pramod,

Congrats on the restoration and thanks for sharing the pics (more pics are welcome).

Being an owner of a Tiger myself I'm very glad to read your thread. It also made me happy to see the RX100 along with the Tiger since me & my brother also have the same bikes back home.

Since you already put the Tiger emblem on the side covers, why did you replace the black color indicator casings? The mudguards should also be black in color. You could have retained them for originality.

Enjoy the 2-strokes.

Here are some pics of my bike - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vbpicg...do=view&g=2825. I repainted it to my liking so there's nothing to show the bike is a Tiger model.

Fantastic restoration man. What adds value and makes it personal is that you did most of the work by yourself. That's something priceless.

No nonsense wiring kit jk, pretty straight forward as long as you know how its done. I had restored my Yam and it wasn't a big task when it came to the wiring. I found the RE to be a painful job incomparo to the Yam.

like you said it’s not rocket science. It was not just me, I ensured my friend also had good hands on with the bike. He knows each nut and bolt very well now, we decarbonised the silencer yesterday in both the bikes.

I don't think an OE self-start that ever came with RX series (atleast in India)
