The 149.1cc fuel injected engine makes 13.1PS of power and 12.8Nm. Power drops on the new FZ FI and FZ-S from 14PS to 13.1PS while torque drops from 13.6Nm to 12.8Nm. The Blue Core, Yamaha claims, enables a quicker low down thrust and an increase of 14 per cent in fuel economy. The Yamaha FZ-S has improved breathing, combustion and exhaust to enhance efficiency and lower emissions (BS4 compliant). Yamaha says that the new FZ’s injectors need cleaning after every 6000km and the same interval applies for oil changes as well.
Yamaha has launched the FZ FI version 2.0 in India at 78,250 (ex-showroom Delhi). The bad bit is the power and torque figures have been toned down. Let's see if it still remains as fun a city bike as it was before.

What is the point of the update when the power is dropped by almost 10%.

Fuel efficiency will never be FZs strong point so where is the fun to dilute the sheer driving dynamics and the power?

YMIL should have re-dine the boring speedo console as well.

From the pics, do not find any major external changes as well.

Not a wise move in my honest opinion.

I jumped into this thread seeing FI and 2.0. Thoroughly disappointed and cant understand the logic from yamaha! Power was already an issue with FZ (top end).

They've reduced the rear sprocket from 41 to 40. That, IMO, will take away the initial grunt of the earlier FZ. Although it'd be improper to comment without a proper ride.

The console has actually been changed into a better unit. Have a look.

@Dreamseller

Thanks for the update.

Somehow, I did not like the new console either.
Also, the tail light socket seems like a sore thumb standing out!

Comparo – Yamaha FZ FI V2.0 vs Honda CB Trigger vs TVS Apache RTR160 vs Hero Xtreme vs Bajaj Pulsar 150.

Suddenly makes the FZ the costliest with least power and weight on tap.

This is not a great proposition at all!!

Addition of FI is indeed a master stroke :thumbs up, but the compromise made on torque and bhp figures are very disheartening indeed :Frustrati. The idea of improving fuel-efficiency is glaringly obvious, though the FI with proper ECU maping itself would have achieved a good 4-5kmpl more that the carb version.
My cent of thought is that Yamaha should have made changes to either one of FZ or FZ-S, and kept another one intact, thereby making the bike appeal to a wider range of people.

Introducing FI - A Good thing.
Bringing the power down - Bad..

The tail light looks so out of place and a desperate move to make it look "different" than the outgoing model.

I always liked the FZ more than the FZ-S; that front visor and body graphics aren't my taste.

This looks like a commuter economy mode version of the FZ- like a Unicorn in FZ clothes!

Very silly question - but how expensive would it have been to add a "sports mode" button, that lets the ECU select a more powerful remap? Wouldn't that have been the best of both worlds?

I can't help but wonder, if Yamaha is out to do a one up on Hero Honda's infamous "sticker upgrade" policy!! Especially when the Indian market seems to be slowly growing out of the 'kitna deti hai' mindset??? :Shockked:

Exactly my thought. The higher end OEM & also the aftermarket/ tuning worlds have been doing this for dogs years. How difficult can it be? I hope the gurus can share some gyan on this.

Great going by Yamaha, brining FI technology to the 150cc middle class bikes. The split seat, new headlights, new speedo makes this more than a face-lift. Apt time to launch the bike too, just when all parents are getting bikes for their children who are getting into College

I can't get the 6,000 km injector cleaning period. There was no disclaimer of this sort for the R15. Nothing on other bikes having FI. Why on this?

I am not too interested in power figures, as despite lower figures, it can still keep up with other 150's and outhandle/outbrake most if not all of them (in regular 150 class)

But atleast HH kept the power figures same and did'nt lower it!:uncontrol

:OT Back in the days when Hero Honda introduced the ZMR which is a ZMA engine with Fi, the power bump was only around 0.6Bhp! I remember everybody cribbing about that! And now suddenly Hero Motor Corps has a heroic figure (atleast in my books)! The new ZMA-R and ZMR twins, though ugly, are not just sticker/plastic jobs!

+1

I'm not a power junkie but for the life of me, I cannot understand how a manufacturer like Yamaha can bring down both the power & torque a notch, in the name of better economy. All this while they are introducing FI - which has proven itself in delivering a smoother performing, higher efficiency engine without sacrificing on power or reliability. FI models from Bajaj and Hero Honda have proven this over the years. The only drawback in those cases were the complexity and cost of maintaining the FI system in top shape.

I do not understand the 6000 km cleaning window either - the cars in India (heck even Yamaha's own R15) have been running FI tech for quite a long time now. So far as I'm aware, even the 'ultra sensitive' Europeans don't have such a requirement!!! :Frustrati
