Hero Hastur - Naked 620cc, 80bhp!

I didn't find any thread on the Hero Hastur, that was revealed by Hero in the Auto Expo.

Hero pulled another rabbit from the hat with the new Hero Hastur! 620cc, 80bhp and 160kg.

This is brilliant stuff from a company that was, up until recently, bashed on these forums, and for good reason. What a way to answer all those critics!

Quote:
The Hero Hastur is a 620cc street fighter motorcycle intended to take on the middle-weight segment with its powerful appeal. The 620cc engine is capable of churning out a whopping 80 PS of power at 9600 RPM and 72 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed cartridge type transmission for efficient power transfer and better fuel economy. The all new engine has been kept very compact and serves as a stress member of the chassis, for best possible mass centralization for the best in class handling and manoeuvrability. The Hastur also gets Controlled Swirl Injection (CSI) for increase in fuel economy and reduction in emissions.

The motorcycle measures 2015 mm, 820 mm and 1120 mm in length, breath and height respectively, with ground clearance of 130 mm. The motorcycle features an aggressive and modern street fighter styling. The twin projector beam headlights feature LED running lights, integrated LED winkers and LED tail lights. 0-100 km/hr comes in 3.8 seconds and the top speed is a 240 km/hr. The bike uses inverted forks in front and adjustable monoshock at the rear. With a weight of just 160 kgs, the Hero Hastur will surely put up good competition in the middle-weight motorcycle segment.

OT: The headlamp styling of the Bajaj SS400 and the Hastur, begs the question:

Looks like futuristic and over-designed. I like the effort from Hero but if they time does the whole design cures a bit edge launched will be a killer bike for sure.

When seen from side the bike looks skinny, no muscle at all. Many opening/empty slits make it look like that but thumbs up to Hero since all this is from scratch.

The design team @ Hero is watching too much of Transformers movies I guess.

This one when launched will be a mean machine suitable for stunts.

Anurag.

Wow! If this along with the HX250R see the light of production, I'll maybe forgive Hero Motocorp for all the years of disappointment and waiting in vain for an improved product.

Hero certainly seem to have come a long way. This isn't meant to take away, but is intended to heighten the contrast, based on my memories of a friend's mom's moped during school.

Now begins the seemingly interminable wait to see these bikes make it to production.

I, for one, love the hastur.
Weird as it may sound, for this to make it to production is almost a far cry.
What I am starting to like about Indian manufacturers is the fact that they are now bringing international quality to the table. This one for example, has Pirelli Diablo Rosso shod on, a tyre change of which will cost a whopping 30K!

Hero Hastur being featured in Ride Apart.

Go through the comments section. Gave me goosebumps. IF the concept makes it through to a production version. It could surely put the Duke 690 in a tight situation in a global level.. All those, provided the reliability levels are up to the mark!

Here's an amazing promo for the Hastur released by Hero. Must say, those headlamps look menacing!

Yes. It will be a while before the concept makes it to a production line (I sincerely hope that this bike makes it to the production line.) and it will surely be a serious contender in the Mid range sports bike segment.

Now Duke 690 already will have the first mover advantage as the bike is already in production and it enjoys a successful lineage.
Hastur on the other hand is an initial offering from Hero foraying into this segment, so that means lot of initial hiccups and as you mentioned reliability issues could crop up. And with all the goodies mentioned in the article, the price factor also will make an impact on the contention of the bike in a price sensitive market like India.

Further Hero will be clearly aware that this is not another 100cc broad based commuter bike segment / customer base that they are looking into but a niche /narrow segment with fewer numbers. So the ROI vis-a-vis the cost of setting up the production line / R&D / foreign consultants / projected sales figures etc and more will also be factored. But the fact that Hero being one of the world's largest 2 wheeler manufacturer is also sitting on a huge pile of cash makes it that much easier to foray into this uncharted territory.

So we could be looking at a window frame of say 2 years from now i.e. some where in 2016 for hastur to see the light of the day and by that time 690 would have been there and done that and possibly a subsequent version could even be released with improved specs for all we know.

All these companies / technology are constantly evolving and offering better performance / technology and ultimately the consumer is having a field day now (in India) compared to the scenario a decade ago.

So either way, if we would get to ride a Duke 690 or a Hastur 620 or a Kawasaki Ninja or Honda for that matter at an affordable price, my grin would be from ear to ear.

Well said Ashok! And to add to those, the team up with EBR will make it easier for Hero to let this baby loose into the international market. And I seriously want to see this baby to do good in International market giving a tough time to the established and proven brands at the same time putting India's name in the global motorcycling map. Which in turn will attract more investors to our country and I sincerely hope that our beloved Govt. will revise the hefty taxes being put on imported vehicles..

If anyone from Hero is reading this, please do'nt make the mistake TVS has done. Making an awesome concept and leaving it there. You guys have a clear winner in your hand. Please do bring this to the market.

And +1 to the last statement. I was also grinning ear to ear on seeing the enthusiasm Hero, Bajaj and TVS (to an extend Mahindra) has shown in the AutoExpo 2014. Hats off to them.

One doubt. Is the Hastur being displayed a working prototype? The engine looks too neat to be practical and lack of any exposed wiring is making me curious. Or is it that Hero has outrun KTM in routing the essential wiring out of sight of the spectators?
