I have the Vertigo Air. There is also the Vertigo Rain and the Vertigo Waterproof. The rain is not waterproof and merely has a liner.

Do consider cortech and gaerne boots.

Gaerne makes some lovely boots too:

Slightly disagree on the top speed since the production 390s seem to be hitting higher top ends than reported in test rides (won't quote figures here) but 300 might still hold a very small theoretical edge.
If you can ignore the price, there is a clear winner in my head too. But, that is a 2 Lakh rupee 'If' :)

That Rs. 2,00,000 price difference is indeed hard to ignore. Though, is it justifiable? Depends on what you are looking at :)

I am surprised at the discovery of top speed being in favor of D-390. I think I saw videos of N-300 doing some 190's.

Though in stock, with equal riders, it would be good to see what they do on a V-Box or on a strip.

Thank you for your suggestion. I'm looking at something inexpensive. So, will keep these SIDI's as the last option. Will check out the PGS, Tourmaster one's and then decide.

Where is the run-in at now?
Done close to 800 and will get the first service done this week.

Quote:

We should plan another Bangy boys ride after you complete your run-in: you are not getting all of us to ride at 60kmph :)
Imagine a group of Ninja guys riding at 60kph :uncontrol.. naa, I wouldn't torture you guys. I'm off for nearly two weeks during X'mas n new year, so by the first week of Jan, I should be well over 2K.

On the cross-wind issue, the 390 seems to sit better than the 200 - never found it to be a cause of concern.
Oh okay, good to know. Were you able to cruise at 100+ (130/140) without any issues?

Someone told me about the JCB Rider boots, supposedly super comfy and decent looking as well. The toe is reinforced from what I hear. LINK here.

No bro, saving money for the long ride coming up!

Cheers!

I have a pair of JCB combater boots. Lacing up is a bit of a chore as it lacks a side zip. Does feature toe protection. Once laced up they are comfy. I haven't done any long rides though, but I think they will be comfortable.

1000 Kms

Though not any long drives this year, the short rides on the Ninja pretty much made up for what I thought was an uneventful year. The last four weekends were by far the best. Multiple rides, met old friends, made new friends, new places and now a desire to ride more. Completed the first 1000 Kms in exactly a month and with that the first service too.

I have been varying the speeds between 40-90 and havent exceeded the 6K rpm. Some observations :

> Can go as low as 40 in the 6th gear at around 3K rpm
> Does 90 at 6K ; 75 at 5K ; 60 at 4K
> Mileage : Staggering 35.6 (tankful to tankful). Well, I couldn't believe this, untill another N300 guy confirmed that he got about 30+, with speeds of 130-140. Just did another refill and will check.
> Taking a 'U' turn is a little hard as the handle comes very close to the tank. Need to turn it like a car.
> The Horn is just pathetic. Sounds exactly like Roadrunner.

Service break-up :

Engine Oil : Motul 300V (10W40) 2.2 Ltrs = 1893
Oil Filter : 472
Chain Lube : 85
Labour : 175
Tax : 3xx

Total : 3002

Wow, that's quite decent for a 300cc twin:thumbs up

I have never got more than 29 kmpl on my 390 Duke.

Also, when you compare the speeds at corresponding RPMs (the 390 does 100 around 5k and 120 around 6.5K) and considering the mileage, I think the Ninja is still running relatively unstressed, even after considering the fact that the 390 does the same speeds at lower RPMs. That's the benefit of a twin cylinder set up I guess.

LOL, with my kind of riding, I get ~25 on highway & ~22 inside city on the CBR-250R, but lets leave it at that.

If you plan to retain this bike for long, please try to get a paddock stand for it. You can do small maintenance things like chain cleaning yourself and I believe, being in Bangalore (where it rains & then rains some more) you will need to have a clean & properly lubed chain.

Scour a bit for universal paddock stand, I don't know if something like that exists. BTW, I modified my paddock stand meant for R15 to be used on the CBR-250R for only Rs. 100 :D

Please keep us posted

What a Colorful Weekend!

I think I saw the two Ninja's yesterday a little after Banshankari, on the road that leads towards silk board a little after 1 PM. Either rider wearing a spartan jacket? Not often you see two white Ninja's together so I'm guessing it was you :) I was riding past on my D200.

Yup, that was me. I live in Banashankari. Do you live somewhere close by? We can catch up sometime for a ride.

I live on the other side of town but I'd love to join you guys on a ride sometime. Do send me a PM next time, I'll send my contact details. I was returning from Chunchi falls when I chanced upon you guys. :)

2000 Kms

Wish you all a Very Happy New Year.

Riding has become my new addiction. Rode to Salem on the 31st night, came back and we guys went for a breakfast ride. In all, covered close to 600Kms. The mileage is around 27 with rpm's above 10K.

One long ride and this happens

That's a decent figure Avinash. I've been consistently getting between 25 and 27 kmpl on hard riding.

I see that you filled in Synthetic oil at the first service interval itself. Did the bike come with synthetic oil from the factory itself?

Asking this since our 250's back then came with bajaj DTSi oil from the factory and I progressively switched to semi synth and then to fully synth Motul oil.

I also see that the bike took 2.2 liters of oil so this one has slightly bigger oil capacity? Our bikes take in 1.6 lts with oil filter changed.

Nice boots Avi. These are the best you can buy. Sidi's are very beautifully crafted. Which variant are these? The perforated leather will keep you cool in summers.

Suggest you to buy a pair of pants now (from Spartan) and you're all set to hit the track :)

It was a great start to the new year and was fun riding with you. Looking forward to more.

Ride safe mate.

Yeah, I remember you mentioned this on your thread too, hence I checked with Suresh and he confirmed it comes factory shipped with Synthetic oil.

Yup, that's right, slightly bigger than the 250.

Thank you Adi. These are the Cobra Air. The other two variants were the ST Air and the Apex black.

I have ordered my size and should be getting it in a couple of weeks. Will hit the track soon :)

Couldn't have asked for a better start to this year and hoping to do a lot more.

Cheers
