The Yamaha R25 concept has just broken cover at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. The bike takes after the same mental space as the focused R1, and R6 high performance, track focused machines and even the MotoGp spec M1. What this means is that this will be a no compromise super sport bike in nature. The engine is therefore a 250cc parallel twin cylinder unit in keeping with the sporting theme but Yamaha isn’t quoting any power figures just yet. This is of course in the concept stage and Yamaha says that switching engines for the production machine however isn’t a difficult task because this is, after all a concept. The frame is all new as well and features tubular elements rather than the R15 style steel spars. The overall look is very neat.
Exciting times ahead! The R25 will have an all new frame (and not based on the R15 chassis) with power output speculated to be close to 45PS at the crank.

The pricing will be higher than Ninja300 IMO, keeping in mind the output numbers & parallel twin engine layout.

They should have worked on a single cylinder 250cc mill for developing markets, as well.

Bring it on Yamaha!! Although they are a bit late, they have put a smile on everyone's face with this! And with my CBR coming out this week or next, I am sure this is going to make me look like an absolute idiot next year (If its coming this way)!

Looking at the concept from a design POV, I wish they retain the air dam and make it slimmer reminiscent to the R6 in the production version! And the pillion rider will still enjoy the flying in the magic carpet like feeling like in the R15!

In case of localized production in India, I think this should be able to hit the roads in the 2.5-3Lacs range. And, is'nt the 45PS(as speculated) a bit too much for a 250? I think a figure of around 32-37 BHP will be absolutely perfect for all round performance of the bike.

So finally Yamaha has woken up to the challenges of 250 CC. Do not think 45 would be too much considering today's technology. Yams are known for performance so hopefully this will be a screamer.

Would be keen to see if they will roll out a naked version to go with this one.

No arguments on that! Definitely it will be possible with the technology we have now. But my point was, a 250cc engine producing 45BHP means that it will be running closer to the brim of its performance capacity. This can affect the long term reliability , heating issues and of course the fuel economy of the bike in a real world commuter-tourer scenario! A 250cc moto3 bike can produce an excess of 50BHPs and hit 200kmph+ speeds but the engines are built and tuned only for a handful of races.

Understand your concerns mate, remember we did hear the same when the R15 was launched which is capable of notching 130 Kays as its top end. But have seen lot of examples which have crossed 50000 Kilometers. That is decent life considering that these bikes have limited usage as commuters.

Excellent stuff, finally Yammy has indeed opened its eyes and boy, it's been a crazy roller coaster of emotions -- mixed indeed. Can't wait to see them. But I don't know how practical this is going to be. As in India you can expect even a Harley to carry milk cans if the need be. So I guess guy here needs a little respect. Cornering freaks, track aficionados. You'll have your prayers answered once and for all.

Cheers!

Finally the guys at Yamaha have woken from their hibernation. It's high time they got into the 250cc segment and provided some much needed flavor in the market in competition for the Kawa's and the Honda's.

Although this is only a concept the design cues are very nice. I liked the smooth lines and curves on the body. Hopefully they get here within a year's time.

Re: Yamaha R25 concept breaks cover @ 2013 Tokyo Motor Show

So Yamaha finally wakes up to the developing markets of the world. And I am so glad they are going multiple cylinder way unlike the CBR250R. However 45bhp seems too optimistic considering longevity and emissions have a role to play. I am expecting close to Ninja 250-300 bhp range. Now only if Yamaha can keep the weight in check and they have a segment beater in hand. The seat height - handle bar height makes Yamahas super sport intentions quite evident. Watching this space.

Its just that people already on a 250, looking for a super sport do not still have a worthy upgrade.

Again it should be usable 45 BHP as I have seen many other less powerful bikes in other different class with 20% less claimed BHP, developing useful power that is low and mid range grunt and that is what required in India.

First, the Duke 390 and now the R-25, two of my most coveted bikes!! Would have sold off my current ride and started saving for one of this beauties had I not indulged avidly in touring. However, Yamaha needs to take heed of the competition and start rolling in the R-25 soon Meanwhile, lets wait for more news of the CBR 300R.

Re: Yamaha R25 concept breaks cover @ 2013 Tokyo Motor Show

Dont u guys think this R25 and duke RC series (Faring versions of 200 & 390) are very similar ? I think in terms of appeal in a faring division, Ninja 300 is the best looking, performance need to wait from Yamaha's launch. Triumph needs to really do a lot of homework since new standards might have been set and not to forget the tvs and bmw collaboration upcoming launches.
