Lets settle all concerns related to the self starter.
First lets understand the components that come into play here;
1. Starter Switch
2. Starter Relay
3. Battery
4. Starter Motor
Now on to the diagnosis;
To diagnose the battery you need to do a load test, the details are provided in the below thread; Understanding & troubleshooting Motorcycle Charging Systems
But before that you need to make sure that your battery's contacts are clean and corrosion free.
Next we'll move on to the Starter Relay, when you push the Starter Switch do you hear a Clicking, if Yes then your Starter Relay is fine, if You Hear nothing then you need to bypass the relay and directly power the Starter Motor from the Battery which we've already diagnosed and made sure its working fine at this point, else if the battery is low then you'd get the typical Trr...tr..tr...tr.. sound.
If the Starter Motor fires up then you need to replace your Starter Relay, now you should thumb the Starter Switch, if it works as intended then all is well, else you will have to check whether the switch is getting current, if it is, then you need to Replace the Starter Switch.
Done.
We've literally covered diagnosis and remediation for every part involved.
Cheers,
