Re: KTM RC390 - Now Launched for Rs. 2.05 lakhs

hi need a bit of help !

I booked the RC390 on the first day of booking itself .

The thing is, for making sure of the aero-dynamics / RC stance requirements the seat height as we all know is 820mm. Now I am 5.3. Can anyone tell me if it will be a problem ?

I will go to the dealer when the 390 arrives to check it myself, but if anyone who has already tried sitting on it or had a chance of a TD, I'd like to know if its a deal-breaker for me. I was okay with Karizma which I believe currently is showing 795mm seat height, not sure if mine has the same seat height, as its an older model.

Hey xplora, if you do not mind being tip toed, it is fine. One of the reasons why RC390 is down in my list is because of the seat height (I am 5'6"). If I restrict this machine to weekend drives in highways, no problem at all! But it could be troublesome in Bangalore traffic. Sigh!
I am willing to wait for CBR 300r which might make it next year. Kawasaki N300 is another on my list.

One request for all others!
Lets refrain from using the term "Jap" (many think it is short for Japanese). This is a derogatory term which gained notoriety during & post WWII.

Please try out the bike from a showroom. As per my knowledge, the seat design is slim which makes the reach to the ground quite easy. Atleast the reviews says so.

What I fail to understand is, why are the owners (few) safeguarding its niggle? You pay a price the manufacturer is asking for, then why live with this small niggle/s, fault/s. No one asked them to price it at that price point, VFM or not.

While my need/priorities are different, all of us do want a bike which requires less attention apart from routine service if taken care of.

Few KTM guys are guarding their turf in such a way that it reminds me of Tata & Fiat owners on our forum. Passionate, but biased.
I have Duke 390 from the initial batches and would like to put down my experience so far. Have owned it for about a year. The only issue i have faced is the erratic stand sensor. Sometimes the bike senses the stand to be down even when the stand is up and cuts of ignition. This is only when you are get ready to leave from a parked position. I have got a stand sensor bypass device which takes care of this niggle. Other than this no other minor or major niggles on this. This bike begs to be ridden hard and i redline it everytime i ride it. It corners well, aim it and shoot, shifts are sweet, very good brakes, abs works flawlessly, best tyres you can get, it just gives you confidence to lean and lean more. In short worth every rupee. Bajaj/ktm have managed to give us performance at a budget. If you look at it, the same motorcyle is available in the UK for 4500 GBP + taxes. I was sceptical before booking this as i hated the built quality of the pulsars but i am happy i got this instead of an used ninja 250, cbr 250 and an f4i. This is IT, you cant get more fun, performance, value for money and peace of mind at around 2lakhs

Interesting. They claim a 8 kmph difference in top speed between the 390 twins.

Read the Motoroid shootout late last night, and dreamt that I am buying both the RC 390 and the Duke 390 because I am not able to decide which one I actually want. Ah dreams!

This came from a friend. Akshay from Goa

KTM India has now revised the alloy wheels on Duke 390's too. Making them more rigid and suited for our road conditions so that they don't crack easily.
And as claimed the Duke manufactured post July 2014 comes with the updated alloy wheels
The RC has got me hooked. I am looking forward to buy a SUV by the end of this year, but hope to replace my CBR 250R with this in the next year.

Sense prevailed finally
D390 was known to hit 172 on speedo; so if we were to go by figures RC390 should hit 180; pretty impressive.

There are many lightweights at BIC who have actually pushed their 390s to over 180 (there are some Go Pro videos floating around as well so I know its not all hot air).

I am a little disapointed in advance though.

I know that the Duke 690 (from all international reports) hits about 195+ kmph (just shy of the 200 mark). This is the current 72 bhp R version I am referring to.

So I'm wondering if a 44 bhp bike does 180, will I not feel a trifle "cheated" that my 690 with 30 more horses, weighing just a bit more, and probably costing 2-2.5 lacs more, does only 15 kmph more?

How about getting to that speed in much (MUCH) lesser time?

Ya that would be nice.

What would be nicer though is if by that time Bajaj and KTM could get the 690 to do a respectable 200+ kmph. Enough to match the other competition in India with roughly the same performance figures - the Ninja 650 and the Bonnie.

Though hearing from Anurag how a 390 harried the Bonnies, one can well imagine what the bigger sister would do ...... (tongue firmly in cheek)

And I know its the same here in mixed bike rides with 390s and 650s. The green 650s just never get away and get to break loose of the orange devils stuck to their backsides.

Doc,
Suppose the 690 reaches 195 in 20 seconds and 390 does it in 35 seconds? No?
The figures quoted are just for narration and nothing to do with actuals.
