Re: KTM RC390 - Launch in 2014

KTM's website hints that we are very close to the launch of the RC 200 and RC 390 in India.

Re: KTM RC390 - Launch in 2014

Based on prior experience the gap between "coming soon" on KTM website and the actual coming could be quite a few months, so do not hold your breath on this one.

. That is very true! The 'Coming Soon' tag on the D390 was on for about six months. And hey, there is still the coming soon tag on D200 ABS version!!

Whatever fingers crossed, the bikes are damn good looking...

Just had my D390 delivered, may be I should have waited a little more (but looking at the price increase - may be not)

This question is still unanswered and untapped as there is no bike to mention in this category with above 250 cc. If everyone is behind Dhoom style no one would have brought even Duke, they would have brought only R15.

But there is a bike in this catgory in the 150 cc category. How many of the Impulses are being sold versus commuters (essentially nakeds with headlight and body plastics, and small windscreens) versus even the Fazers (half fairing) and the R15s (full fairing)? Not to mention Karizmas (half and then full fairing) and Pulsar 220s (half fairing), both below 250 cc. Forget these under-250 cc daily riders. I see as many Ninja 250s on the road as I do Impulses, if not in fact more. What about that? Or in the imports, how many super sports in the 600 cc category or SBKs in the liter class and above category are brought into India versus big enduros/adventures/trailies in the same respective cc categories?

Surely a genre (enduro/adventure) is more to do with usage and less to do with cubic capacity? Because what we have seen until now is the nakeds and the faireds far outselling the one so-called adventure bike we have. So I am not convinced that pushing up the engine cc by another 100 odd cc is going to se any significant bucking of the trend.

Yes, those wanting a good sturdy and frugal bike for the mountains that is not heavy and is Indian made and sold and supported will look at it as an option. But what percentage of total bike buying junta of India would this select demographic be? And once (and IF - a big if, because this bike would still have to compete against similar capacity nakeds for the same pie) this demographic has bought this bike, assuming you have a slight initial spurt as riders from multiple age group/experience/brand/number-of-bikes-owned strata who have been waiting for such a bike actually buy it, what happens after that?

Then the company has a product which has to do its numbers from each successive generation (new/first time buyers far outstripping replacement/second-third bike buyers in the developing world/Indian context) and those initial spurt numbers can never be sustained again.

That is the quandary.

We need to face it. As a riding people, we love our Dhoom machines.

Re: KTM RC390 - Launch in 2014

It was just on the lines of above thought shared by ebonho as most masses mostly tend to relate fully faired bikes to Dhoom. Not many are happy with the way the naked Duke currently looks. We all love to look at fully faired bikes. The nakeds surely cant match them in the looks department. The performance + price and lack of a competant equivalent which is working in KTM's favor at the moment would continue at least for a couple of years as there is no immediate competition on the horizon.

Re: KTM RC390 - Launch in 2014

September would be a nice, pleasant surprise. I went to my nearest KTM dealer here in Hyderabad, and they say that the RC 390s are a Diwali launch, with the Pulsar SS twins being launched first.

Did I hear that right?..Pulsar SS twins are being launched first? This Diwali??
Last what I heard on this front was that the Pulsar twins were slated for a 2015 launch. Can you confirm exactly which newer sibling from the Pulsar family is arriving this Diwali?

Re: KTM RC390 - Launch in 2014

The KTM dealer here in cochin indicated that the RC should be launched by the end of this month mostly, with deliveries taking a ill longer.

The info I got was 200 first and 390 later.
