I am planning a trip on my Blue Bird just to console her. There will be some updates after completion of the trip. Presently, I use my Blue Bird for short city rides in Bangalore!

Bangalore>Chitradurga Fort>Vani Vilasa Sagara Dam>Bangalore

449 km in less than 13 hours. 57 kmph. 32 kmpl.

Ever since I watched Naagarahaavu [1972 - Kannada], which was shot extensively in the Chitradurga Fort, I wanted to visit this historical place. Many times, we had passed through Chitradurga without even stopping. That's the irony of life! We visit many far away, exotic locations; but we ignore the important nearby places.

Yesterday, I and my Blue Bird were hectic. We rode from Basaveswara Nagar home to Chitradurga Fort, and then, to Vani Vilasa Sagara Dam, before returning home. We left at 5:20 am in the morning and reached New Mysore Cafe, Chitradurga at 8:30 am. After sumptuous breakfast, I entered the fort at 9:15 am. The cloudy weather was very helpful in trekking around 5 km with many ups and downs with the fort. Finally, after witnessing - who is a popular person in Chitradurga - climbing a steep rock with bare hands, I came out of the fort after 3 hours at 12:15 pm.

From Chitradurga Fort, I rode straight to Vani Vilasa Sagara Dam, constructed by Mysore Maharajas. My MapMyIndia navigator guided me and my Blue Bird perfectly to the spot. I climbed the dam from the right bank, walked on the dam top from the right bank to the left bank, clicked many photographs and left by 2:20 pm for homeward journey. I stopped at Kamat Upachar at Sira bypass for late lunch. I reached home by 6 pm after my Blue Bird had tankful at the nearby HP COCOO. My Blue Bird displayed all the 7 bars on the fuel gauge after tankful for the first time after replacement of a faulty float.

Cramster Turtle Tank Bag Customized

Today, I decided to have a top transparent pouch on my Cramster Turtle magnetic tank bag as I had tough time to accommodate my solar charger on the top. So, I bought two overhead projector transparent sheets costing Name: rupeesymbol.gif

Size: 578 Bytes6 from the neighbourhood stationery shop and got them stitched over the top flap by a bag maker costing Name: rupeesymbol.gif

Size: 578 Bytes 25. Presto! Now, my solar charger can be comfortably accommodated for charging my navigator.

Ravi Sir,
The next time you go to Chitradurga, do have your breakfast in Lakshmi tiffin Room near the fort. They are simply too good.

Will try the New Mysore Cafe one of these weekends

The new management of New Mysore Cafe is Lakshmi Tiffin Room only according to independent inquiry! But, the man at the counter denied it saying it was the same old management.

Do try. You won't regret it. Here are the photographs of the mouth-watering tiffin I tasted at New Mysore Cafe.

Hi Ravi Sir,
I bumped into your ownership thread recently, I have to greatly thank you as you were my inspiration to book a RE. Took couple of test drives on the TBTS and Classic (both 350) as i shall be using the bike within city limits. Had the passion for birdie for its ride comfy, but Classic swept off my feet. Have booked the CL350 and counting my days (should say months). Thumps UP.

Ravi Sir,
How are you handling the dust, I feel a velcro tape could do good, but not sure if it can hold during your highway cruising.

I can handle the dust by cleaning. But, sitting horizontally [or slightly inclined] on the tank with stability is important for the highway cruising. So, I am trying this customization.

Sir,
Somehow I would recommend you to put the trusted ciggie lighter. If you are apprehensive on putting it, then let me try it on my Thunderbird. Will keep you posted off the results over a period of time.

Thanks, MK. I will be eagerly waiting for your report. I will definitely reconsider my decision in favour of ciggy lighter socket!

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 : My Motorcycle Diaries

Ravi Sir,
You had clocked 3K kms and had spent few monsoons with the blue bird, how good is the paint job after recent rains? Saw in your earlier post that your birdie is from old plant. (New plant's bikes have better paint quality - Personally i feel that metal rusts if not properly maintained)
I have seen RE owners loyally taking care of their Machine and keep it showroom shiny. Any maintenance tips for the future owner?

After 5 months and 3.5 k km in Bangalore and Chennai weather, the paint is as good as when it was new. I don't find any issues with the paint job.

Exposure to rain water + atmospheric air is the main reason for corrosion. As long as the bike is parked inside the garage or home totally protected from rains would help avoidance of rust. Since my Blue Bird stays within the covered parking at both the places, she does not face any problem yet.

Bangalore To Chennai

Today, my Blue Bird flew back to her nest. We left our Bangalore Basaveswara Nagar home at 4:30 pm and reached our Chennai Royapettah home at 11:30 pm including dinner break of half-hour at Aryaas, Vellore and another 15 minutes at Porur junction due to police checking my baggage and general questioning of where from and where to, thanks to Narendra Modi's visit to Chennai.
