Not as aesthetic as a Rynox or Viaterra, but seems they are very functional. As in they have more of a function over form design.
We used turtuk 1.0 on one meteor 350 during mumbai spiti mumbai ride in sep 2021.
While on the other meteor350 we used the viaterra claw.

Both did a good job, but each has its design quirks which I can expand on if anyone is interested.

I have (and regularly use) the 22L POD bag from Viaterra. Had bought it when I had a Kawasaki Z650 - which also has a non plush and small back seat. But the bag was a great fit. It has a velcro base that can be installed below the back seat and the straps that come out go into the grooves on the main POD - ensuring stability and support. If fastened tight, it doesn't move an inch! And also acts a good lower back support.

Having moved onto a Tiger, the POD bag still is a great 'add-on' bag as I can fasten it over my top box or soft luggage or even attach it to my front protector guards.

Other benefits is that it's waterproof - tested extensively in Mumbai torrential rains. This is because it has an internal liner bag that has a velcro mechanism - which can be removed and washed separately. The 22L can pack quite a decent amount of stuff - probably for a 2-3 day overnight ride types.

The only drawback is that it doesn't have a shoulder or bag strap (not sure if the newer version comes with one) ; one has to carry it by the neck - near the opening depending on your packing.

All in all, its a nifty and quite underrated piece of luggage for shorter day rides and as a great add-on for longer trips.

Re: The Saddle & Tail Bag Review Thread

I am looking to buy a pair of carrying handles/straps and inner liner bag for my newly acquired Yezdi Adv metal pannier boxes. Any suggestions where can I get it in Pune/Mumbai? Online search doesn't return "convincing" results.

Thank you for your feedback TheVaas, do you have any pictures with the POD on the Z650?, I was thinking the 22L would be too big to fit on the back seat. But I guess after reading your review, 22L would be ideal for a 2-3 days trip, 12L would be too small.

Re: The Saddle & Tail Bag Review Thread

Hi all, I am planning a 3 to 4 days bike trip with my wife from Bangalore to Ooty/Coorg and my question is will a 42L top box suffice for both me and my wife. I also have a guardian gears 18L tank bag. Should I need invest in a pair of saddle bags as well or will it be an overkill. Wanted an opinion from experienced riders on this.

I'm relatively experienced on this so I'll take a stab

Load the tank bag and stuff the top box, by which I mean, your tank bag can still be heavy and it will not cause any issues to the riding dynamics.
Your top box however, ideally should be as light as possible. So you may think in terms of volume, and not weight.
The top box being heavy, causes a mild fishtailing effect, which is not too bothersome to be honest, but if it can be avoided, avoid it.

This is good for 3-4 days. If you need more, add saddle bags too. And no, it's not overkill according to me, as I almost always ride long with a pillion. We've gotten used to loading/unloading luggage by now, so even if the saddle bags are light, it's fine. You don't need to necessarily load the tank bag and top box just to avoid this.

Re: The Saddle & Tail Bag Review Thread

I got this Bag from Triumph Yesterday. Looks a good built to me and will fit most Tourer/ Adv bikes. Costs around 15K, Capacity 45 Ltr. Has a piped reflector, is waterproof and gets another cover which I used just to keep it fresh for a while from dust.

Some pictures for reference.

Re: The Saddle & Tail Bag Review Thread

42 litre is a good amount of space. Plus the 18L is quite adequate. You dont have to buy more, since its not so much of a 'long ride'

Unfortunately no. I changed phones and somewhere in the data shifting some of my pictures got deleted. But trust me, it didn't look out of place. And you won't go wrong with the 22L capacity; always helps to have additional free space in your luggage in case of last minute shopping

Thank you for your advice. Will do a trial run of sorts with some clothes and essential in the tank bag and top box combo.

We are waiting for you to pen down your experience.

I am also in dilemma over these two. Viaterra is tried and tested by many fellow BHPians here. They also offer repairs which is a great plus point. But, Turtuk looks promising, and with removable side pouches, more functional.

Roll the straps multiple times around the mount point, then insert it through the D-ring buckle and again pull it upwards to tighten it further and finally, button it up to close the loop. Try to avoid slack as much as possible in this process.

The Saddle & Tail Bag Review Thread-viaterraclawmountcbr250r.jpg
Zoom in on the mount point, I rolled it 4 or 5 times to get the desired setup.

In the last 6 months, I did two 1400-km rides and got to mount the Claw 5-6 times using this method. I knew the bag wouldn't move but I still used a bungee cord over the Claw. This gave me the much needed assurance that I needed so I can focus on the road and not worry about the bag swerving sideways.

Thanks siddhant. Initially, I used to roll the strap multiple times through the pillion footpegs. But I realized that in the process, I was introducing slack that was hard to remove. Then I adopted the single roll through the footpegs approach. That really reduced the slack that used to creep in.

Even with the single roll approach, a small amount of slack comes in when I have completed an hour or two of highway riding. The bag doesnt move from side to ride or anything. Its just that the slack has come from somewhere! Its not a major complaint, more of an observation from my side. Im sure there is a little hack that can get rid of this.

So I got the 12L version, which I think would suffice for 1-2 overnighters. Did a test ride with just a stainless steel water bottle, a hand towel and another microfiber towel.

Clearly the pod wasn't at full capacity. So I had to improvise and tie it down so that it wouldn't dangle around. The more the stuff inside, the easier it would be to tie it down. The removable base sits perfectly under the 310's seat.

It sit's well and doesn't slide off. So I think the 22L too would be a good fit. Keep note that if you don't fill up the bag a minimum of 60-70 % you would have to use all the straps and tie it down.

In all rode around 130+ KMs with triple digit speeds a couple of times and the pod held well.

Looks like a mess but it's all down to being underfilled and me being a newbie at this.

Those who don't know will try lifting it from the grip which is on the base of the bag, and all the stuff will come tumbling out. If needed grips can be sewed onto the pod by a competent cobbler.
