I have been using a 3.5 X 19 Ceat Milaze tyre at the rear.
Seems quite good, with aggressive tread pattern. It is a softer tyre than MRF Nylogrip Plus.
Worth a try, in my humble opinion.

If the other type he mentioned is pilot sporty then it is damn costly for a crappy Tyre. Just go for the radial pilot street. Do not even look at anything else.

Thanks again for the help! Got the rear - 140/70 for 5400. Sai Iyengar at Indiranagar. They fitted the tyres also at the place and the guy did a neat job - no messing around.

Have only ridden a short distance but first impressions - tyre really holds its line! There is negligible tramlining - used to experience it big time on the stock Contigo!

Also, need to check in the wet. And once I change the front tyre next month, I think I will be happy.

Yes it holds the line very well. Even in wet. Once you change the front also, you will see the improvement in handling and braking. The crappy conti go are no match for these wonderful tyres

I have just got the CEAT Gripp (3.5*19) for rear and CEAT Secura sports (3.25*19) front for my RE Machismo 500. I've run hardly 5 kms post getting tyres replaced, had a strange feeling with the handlebar with the new tyres, I guess its because the deep studded (buttons!) secura sport in the front versus the ribbed I was using so far. This may get some time for me to get used to it. I have heard/read good things and hopefully my decision to put this type of tyre for front wheel is not wrong. I'll have a long ride (~1K kms) this month end, will have it tested. I'll also try and go on a quick short ride before that to make sure I'm used to the new feel before I hit the TN/KL border with heavy downpour these days, will have the tyres tested during that ride. Any inputs around the change in handlebar feel and cornering post moving to CEAT secura sports from the old ribbed tyres! Appreciate your comments!

Yes, I had used the same on my Thunderbird also - I felt it offered much better traction than the useless ribbed tyre. Yes, takes some getting used to but it will give you much more confidence than the ribbed, trust me.

I had a fall on the Thunderbird due to the front ribbed tyres tramlining. Broke my arm too.

Are you sure its 3.25*19 for the front rim? Thought it was 90/90*19 or 3.00*19 for the front?

If you are used to the front ribbed tire then it will take some time getting used to the buttons on the front. But yes you will have to compromise on the smoothness though.

Yes, mine is RE Machismo 500, it has come with 3.25*19 on front. I have heard that they have stopped making vertigo sports (supposed to be the best one around some time back) for this size and secura sport is the only one for this size. I'm hoping this pair performs on road as well.

Hi BHPians, firstly thanks for this awesome thread. A lot of information solely on tyres and genuine reviews.

Recently my RTR 160 (2010 model) has been skidding a lot - even in very low speed. Inn wet conditions, it becomes even more worse. Thought of changing my tyres and thats when I came across this thread.

I think my RTR's tyre size is as follows:
Rim size (Front) 1.85 x 17”
Rim size (Rear) 2.15 x 18”
Tyre size (Front) 90/90 x 17”
Tyre size (Rear) 100/80 x 18”

For the front, post reading the reviews, I have finalized the MRF Zapper FY2. However, for the rear, I was not able to find a suitable tyre.

Request members to kindly suggest a rear tyre. High priority is grip in wet and dry conditions. Also request you to suggest an alternative for the front in case I am not able to locate a Zapper FY2.

Recommendations of MRF stores in Bangalore would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Not Bad to be honest, would they be available in 4.00*18 or 120/80/18?
Is the rubber soft? I would prefer soft rubber compared to hard rubber. Ook to compromise on tire life instead of grip.

Will surely check with the tyre store person on the availability of these sizes.

Rubber is not too soft and like opined earlier, the front buttons make a difference to the ride quality and needs getting used to but having said that, the ride confidence is more and after riding in bangalore showers too I did not face any issues. In fact I like it better than the OE tyres.

Thanks Madhu for posting the pictures. I too have had the same experience. Maybe i am used to having the rib type tyres in the front for too long. That feel is just not there, even after a thousand kms on the Ceat Milaze.
Having said that, these definitely have better grip in wet/slush. My earlier Dunlops and MRFs have been hopeless in rain.

And I finally went ahead and changed the front as well - same Michelin Pilot Street Radial. And I got to test it in the wet also - was raining quite heavily on Saturday. Wow, I must say wow! Much, much better than the stock Contigos! Tyre really holds down well and there is no fishtailing when taking a nice turn too. Though it just feels a little odd - the tyre profile is the difference here. But it does hold its line - just that I will have to get used to it. Happy, happy customer. That was worth it.

Hi all. This is my first post on this thread. And it's about Michelin Pilot Street Radial tyres that I replaced on my KTM Duke 390.

My Duke now running on Michelin Pilot Street Radial 150/60-17 (run for 3000kms) and front on 110/70-17 (run for 300kms)

About the rear tyre Michelin PSR 150/60-17. Ite the newest size offering for KTMs and the tyre costs 5500INR in Goa. It's a dual compund tyre like the Road 2. Dry grip is phenomenal. Don't really feel the difference between Metzelers and Michelin. But the Michelin's take a little while to heat up. Once heated up they grip. Now in wet the tyre inspires 10-15% less confidence as that of Metzeler. But it grips and doesn't spin out under hard acceleration on a wet or damp surface. It does slip on insane leans in wet but yes one needs to trust the tyre. It won't let one down for sure (was coming down Chorla Ghat in dampest and wettest of the conditions. Doing 80-90kpg on corners)

Coming to the front tyre 110/70-17. It's supper grippy as its soft compound than the dual medium compound at the back. The tyre when fitted on KTMs can give you a feel that it's made the front end heavy and may also give a feeling that the front end is slipping away. That's because the tyre is bit heavier than stock Metzeler and the slipping feeling is about getting used to the tyre as its rounded compared to the flattish metzeler. The major difference I felt is the comfort and planted feel (due to weight) at the front. The tyre makes the ride a lot more plush and relaxing on the arms on bad roads compared to stock Metzeler. Coming to the grip. Dry and wet grip is bang on. Look no further about it.

If you are into touring or cannot afford the premium cost of Metzeler (I feel Metzeler is better tyre for track use and not much of boon on our bad roads) then just get a pair for Michelin PSR. Set should not cost more than 9600INR along with fitting (Goa)
