Wanted to give a last update on the 'made in India' Michelin pilot sporty 120/80-17.

Have been using this for past 22k kms. And the tread wear indicator is nearly coming to the surface. Will be replacing after the tread wear indicator comes to the surface full which should happen in another thousand kms.

Final impressions-
1. These are somewhere between medium and hard compound. Considering how long they have lasted my brutal usage and speed runs.
2. Wet grip is pathetic and the tyre has a mind of its own in wet. I have not been able to fathom its behaviour in wet till now. Sometimes it grips decent in wet under mild braking and sometimes it locks up. Even moderate cornering in wet without any braking is scary and the rear steps out

3. Dry grip is good. Does its job well in dry. But throw in some gravel and it's starts swimming around. Corners very well on dry surfaces once they are sufficiently warmed up. This is one positive aspect.

4. Tyres are puncture resistant and do not pick nails easily. Have had only one till now

These made in India michelins tyre compounds are definitely altered to suit the mileage oriented Indian junta. So I would not recommend this tyre to enthusiasts .

Hi everyone, I plan to go to Leh on my RE Continental GT. Do I need to replace the stock Pirelli Sport Demons for the trip? If yes, can you suggest which tyre will be most suitable?

Hey they are absolutely fantastic tires even on the highways, been using them on my Thunderbird 500 and have absolutely no complaints.

Only issue is, they are not available and many people in the JC Road are updating me that the vertigo sports is no longer in production which is actually a shame.

The tire is a bit soft and for my usage lasted 15000 kms. Still on its last treads and still searching for one

Hi Guys,

Any recommendation for rear tyre of Enfiled Standard 19". Currently I am running Dunlop 3.50 which is doing okay job. I need to change it before my upcoming Leh trip so please advice.

Check if you can get the MRF Nylogrip Plus 3.50*19. They are conventional old school treads and will offer you an ideal combination of On & Off Roads.

Not quite sure if you get the Ceat Secura 3.50*19 with those button treads these days.

Are the Michelin Pilot Street Radial still the best option for the CBR - 140/70 17? Have been riding for 27k kms and more on the OEM Contigos - pathetic stuff. But need to make some time so that I can go get the tyres replaced.

Yes they are absolutely brilliant. Using them on my pulsar for past 500 kms and they offer tremendous amount of grip in dry and wet. Worth every penny

Snapdeal are too costly.

I bought only the 110/70-17 which costed me 4K @ Cherry Tyre Park, Jayanagar 4th Block.

They had 140 and 150 section too.

The cheapest quote was from Tyre empire Whitefield but i would have spent more on petrol going to that place and coming back. Hence settled to Cherry.
All other tyre shops were quoting 4300 +- 100 . This is for the 110/70-17 . Dunno about 140,150 section.

Cherry has multiple branches across bangalore and each one quotes a different price for the same tyre. So shop around.

Michelin Pilot Street 110/70-17

Application:Front tyre, Radial
Using as : Rear tyre after reversing the direction of rotation based on the information from various motorcycle forums.
Available sizes: 110/70-17(Front), 140/70-17(Rear), 150/60-17(Rear)
Price range- Rs 4000 to Rs 6000 depending on the size.

The pilot street is designed for medium performance bikes, 150CC to 300CC category and is a soft to medium compound tyre . After the horrible experience with my previous 'Made In India' Michelin Pilot Sporty 120/80-17, i had decided i would buy the best tyre i could lay my hands upon this time around after sufficient research. Soft-Medium compound tyres are scare, almost non-existant, in the 100 and 110 section . All of them are Medium-Hard compound tyres . Only one available is the Zapper S 100/80-17, which is the rear tyre of the R15 old version. But finding this tyre proved more elusive than finding a needle in the haystack.

Reading through KTM thread here , i chanced upon the Pilot street and was happy to see the positive reviews by 390 owners. Also checked other forums and most of them had only praises for this one. Only catch - the 110/70-17 is placed as front tyre. After further reading around forums, i concluded that it was OK to use a radial tyre designed for the front, at the rear, if the direction of rotation is reversed. Reason being, the steel cords are placed in such a way to aid braking loads and not the acceleration push.Meaning, the cord arrangement is such that during braking the cords are pushed towards each other.So to suit the acceleration forces experienced for a tyre at the rear , reversing the direction of the rotation will to some extent ensure that the cords are pushed apart to lay down power to the tarmac.

So after much thought, finally purchased the tyre and installed it a couple of weeks back. Have ridden them for 500 kms in rain, shine, gravel and below are my impressions


Pros:
->Best tyre you can get in India currently for bikes with 100-110 section rear tyre
->Solid grip in dry,very good grip in wet.
->Silence. Now, one will associate silence to car tyres. But motorcycle tyres also create a racket. For the first few days, i wondered why the bike engine is sounding so gruff after installing these tyres and later came to know that the racket created by the earlier tyre was masking the engine gruffness!
->Very confidence inspiring behavior .Could be due to radial construction.
->Excellent cornering ability.Leans into corners without any effort and holds its line very very well.
->Flick able in traffic and at also at high speeds
->Does not lock up even under moderate to hard braking where most tyres give up
->Does not fishtail at all under hard braking. In fact it resists locking up as much as possible.
->Excellent braking ability in dry and wet. High speeds(80 plus) can be shed using the rear brake alone in wet and dry with equal confidence.
->Gives excellent feedback of the road surface.

Cons:
->Since 110/70-17 means sidewall of just 77mm compared to the usual 88 or 90mm in a 100/90 or a 110/80 tyre, the shock abosrbing capacity is reduced resulting the transmission of bumps to the seat. However it is not too bad. You will forget this con once you get used to the grip these offer.The reduced sidewall also means speedo error. The bike reaches a lower speed at a given RPM compared to stock.
->Life might be around 20K. But hey, for the grip these offer, i would not mind.I would rather spend a couple of thousand extra on good tyre than pay to the doctor in case something goes wrong because of bad/average tyres.

Called Cherry at Jayanagar and he quoted me 5300/- for the 140/70 17 Rear that I was looking for. It is the same price at Sai Iyengar, Bilekahalli. Will decide and go off for a fitting tomorrow if possible.

Siva at Cherry agencies also said that there are 2 versions of the tyre - not sure if he meant the Sporty - saying that was 6000/-

Internationally pilot street come in radial and cross ply version. I am not sure if Cross ply is available in India. Import data is for radial type only.

If the other type he mentioned is pilot sporty then it is damn costly for a crappy Tyre. Just go for the radial pilot street. Do not even look at anything else.

Hello folks, I need some help !

I have been using Pulsar 150 3rd Gen since late 2008 and clocked 35k km and now, the rear tyre appears smooth and have to change it.

From the suggestions, I think I would like to have mrf zapper vyde 120/80-17 since I need a better gripped tyre and most probably in future, my bike riding will only decrease [ and hence, the longevity is not as important]. So would that be a good choice [ or any other suggestions ] ?
