Vyde in 120 80 section is tubeless. Yes it does increase the weight but does not get punctured easily .

So you are running on second set of tyres is it?

Michelin pilot sporty is another option but its also prone to puncture. So you better stay away from it. Pilot sporty comes in two variants. Made in Thailand and made in India. Made in India ones are hard and less grippy. Made in Thailand ones are very grippy but are like your stock tyres. Mine had 6 puncture during its 14k kms usage.

So your best bet is zapper vyde

But the tyre making the overall feel heavy and needs some getting used to.
Any idea on the continental conti- go.? Many here in Hyderabad suggested that it less prone to punctures. If that isn't great then ill move to vyde. I guess the fuel economy also drops with bigger tires? I never really changed the tires apart from the stock one's. And yes this my second set.


The rear tyre is the third one. The second one got badly punctured after usage of 300km only. The puncture was on the side wall of the tyre and hence nothing could be done.:Frustrati


I just didn't want to alter the Tyre size , as it may affect the overall feel etc of those perfect yet puny tires.

its great the way you've analyzed them.it makes things a lot easier when it come down to selecting a tire

my requirement is just GRIP. dont care about tire life at all so even if it lasts about 10k kms thats great

for the front ive zeroed down on the zapper FY/FY1 depending on availability. and for the rear im still confused between the
mrf vyde
micheline pilot sporty not too keen especially since the recent stock isnt too great from what i have read
pirelli mt 75. not too keen on the sports deamon cause its hard compound ? always thought it was soft
and lastly IRC NR48

i guess ill have to make a call from these ? unless something better is available.

what size rear tire are you using ? stock is 100 and was thinking 110 or at the most 120, nothing more

If you can lay your hands on nr48, then just go for it. Pirelli mt 75 would be next best. But make sure you don't buy it if its more than a year old. Pilot sporty is too puncture prone. The last choice would be zapper vyde.

I used the stock zapper till 22k. Then changed to pilot sporty 110/80 and used it till 36k. Now running on vyde.

And what makes you think so?

A sealant's only handicap is a tire cut, rest everywhere it does a great job. Fills even minute air leaks.

I agree with you. But then the tyre is getting punctured often and ending up with atleast 2 punctures so i feel changing tyre is better. Sealant would be great when the tyre is in a good condition right.

Has anyone over here used Avon tyres on the Bullet?
Would love to know more about those tyres and its availability in India.

If the holes causing punctures are visible and you know they are large enough for the sealant to not work, then I would suggest changing the tire.

Else, I have seen FZ & R15's having a dozen puncture and the sealant seems to work fine.

If getting a new tire, stick to stock (at least on the R15) and get sealant filled up.

Im sure the tyre has worn out. No harm in trying tough. Can you share any links on where to order the tyre sealant's?. Just checked with the yamaha showrooms. There is no stock available as of now.


And yes. I tought of moving away from stocks. Chsnge of mind - If sealant doesnt help will order the same old stock tires

Try accessory or tire shops. I am unsure of the availability at Hyderabad. May be fellow Hyderabad Team BHP-ians can be of help. There is a thread running about the meets.

And yes, I believe sealants are available on-line as well.


Please do not change the tire. I mean, if you need to have a new tire, stick with the ones which came as stock.

I had posted in this thread a few months back about the rear tyre upgrade, but I didn't go ahead because of some reasons. Now, I'm frustrated with the stock tyres on my Apache and need to upgrade it ASAP. There are just 2 must-haves for the tyres; should be hard compound and should have a good grip on all surfaces. The size I'm looking at is 110/80-17 or 120/80-17. I'm not having a fixed budget, can spend 3-4k if the tyre is good. I can't find IRC, MRF in the nearby shops, they have Dunlop, CEAT, Pirelli and Michelin.

I have an Apache RTR160, 2008 Refresh Series. Planning to change the rear tyre (priority). I was told that the tubeless won't fit! :Frustrati

How about Pirelli MT75? Any other suggestions?

Hard Compound and Good grip on all surfaces is not possible in the same tyre. A medium compound is a good compromise. You can consider MRF Vyde if available, if not then Pirelli MT75 is a good tyre which I am using currently but it is a soft compound tyre. Good in almost all surfaces. Should last around 15-17k kms. Michelin reviews are present in this thread and is a very good tyre but again a soft compound. Take your pick. :)

How about the Michelin Sirac and the IRC NR48? Heard good reviews about the IRC.
