Hi raiuday.
The user "swiftnfurious" has posted a post just above yours, which has a link to my thread. You'll find the answer to the shim job there.
Happy biking! |
Thanks saitvsk. Good to know there’s someone reliable enough to work on the Cbr. Will give it a try the next time. :thumbs up
Hello everybody, I have a 2017 BS 3 CBR 250R. Everything was fine till last June. Suddenly, one day I noticed that the radiator fan was running even after I had switched off the bike and even after having locked the handle. I was in a hurry, so chose to ignore it. Then, after 4-5 hours, the bike won’t even turn on as the battery had been completely discharged. Then, the next day charged the battery outside and restarted the bike. This time the radiator fan wouldn’t turn on even the coolant temperature reached 4-5 bars. Was planning to take it to the ASC the next day, but unfortunately the issue again reappeared. The bike was completely dead, no electrical activity, even though I had charged the battery recently. The battery was also only 1 month old.
Now the ASC took 9 days and now they are saying to change the engine power module, some relays. They are quoting ₹12,000 for it. ₹10,000 for the power module only.
Can someone please help. Has anyone faced similar issue?
Also, any reliable CBR mechanic in the Delhi NCR region? I would like a second opinion.
Thank you in advance
It's clearly an issue with electrical in the wiring harness. I can help you here in Chennai or Bangalore, not sure who can be reliable at DL. Sure it costs Rs 10K for ECM; fan relays wouldn't cost so much, if conked.
Hello,
Please excuse me if my question has been previously answered. When I searched I found too many varying answers.
Could someone please help me with a reliable and knowledgeable FNG for my beloved CBR 250R?
Thank you in advance

I'm sorry for the extremely late reply but finding original Honda relays for the fans can be a headache. The same relay can be found from your nearest Maruti Suzuki parts distributor. And I say the distributor because the dealerships generally dont carry the relay in their spares section. So you can remove the relay (requires you to take off the left body panel for the easiest access, or else you could just stick your hand in and do a few moves to first unhook it and then disconnect it), read the power and voltage ratings on it and take it to the parts distributor and ask him for the same relay.
Mind you, the newer maruti relay will be taller than the Honda relay, effectively it works the same but its blue in color. The Honda relay's upper black casing is known to break off and let water and other elements damage the relay circuit board in there. So its a job that you can do as well.
I'm saying all of this confidently because I've done it on my bike all by myself.
Need technical advice from CBR250R experts.
Till Sep-2023 when I got my Grand Vitara hybrid, the CBR used to log atleast 600-800kms (all highway) every month. With the Vitara having to rack up kms for the
initial services, the CBR wasn't used much in the last 16 months - only a 200km run every 2 months or so & a local 10km run occasionally to keep the battery charged.
Also with not much difference in FE between the Vitara (26-30kmpl) & the CBR (36kmpl), I tended to take the Vitara out more, resulting in the CBR getting neglected.
Last week when I tried to start the bike, the starter motor cranks, but the engine wouldn't fire up - the first time in 11years this has happened.
The battery is new & there is fuel in the tank. What else should I look for ? Thanks.

1. How old is the bike ? Time and KMs
2. How long since you installed the new battery ? Time and KMs.
I had similar problem (except that my battery was 3 yrs old at that time but was working fine)
In my case the culprit was the Magneto (Magnet/Stator coil) which sits in the left side crankcase cover. At that time, my bike was 12 yrs old and the mechanic said that on an average the stator coil of CBR lasts ~10 yrs. I didn't think much of it and got it replaced. And it has been working fine since then.
The stator coil costs Rs. 3800
So I suggest you first try to get the battery checked by nearby garage, try push starting the bike in 2nd gear, see if it starts. If so, for how long does it keep working. When the cheaper solutions have been tried and failed, then get the mechanic to check the stator coil.

Magnetic stator coil is a common starting issue for CBR and the issue happens out of the blue. A friend got stuck while on a long trip and had to transport the bike back to bangalore to get it fixed.
Get it checked if the battery is fine. Nice that you faced the issue while the bike is parked at home.

1. Bike will be 11years in May. Done 32000 kms.
2) Battery was installed 6-7 months ago. Bike did only maybe 200kms with new battery.

I will try push-start & see. From what you guys say, it looks like the magneto is the issue.

Today after 7-8 attempts, the engine came to life after the bike was push-started. Then I idled it for a few minutes & did a 5km ride. Switched off & it now starts with button-start at 1st crank itself.
Does this mean the magneto / stator coil issue was not the cause ? Or it could still popup as a nasty surprise later ?
I am taking it to EVM Honda Vyttilla Kochi tomorrow to fix a couple other long pending items. Should I ask them to check the magneto ?
1) Front fork oil leak - need to get oil & seal changed for both fork legs
2) after a minor fall few months ago (my 1st & only one since buying the bike 11 years ago), the handle is slightly bent (skewed to the right - I fell to the right).
For item-2, should the handle be changed ? Or they pull it back to original alignment or something ?

If it idled for few mins and also you were able to ride 5 kms without any issue, it most likely means the Magneto is fine. You said you rode just 200 kms in 7 months. Maybe battery got discharged due to such low usage.
Since you are going to the service center anyway, get them to check the battery and recharge it.
If everything is working fine again, don't attempt to get the Magneto checked unless they have the Magneto side crankcase cover gasket in stock. Because re-using such an old gasket after removing the cover will definitely lead to oil leakage from that side.
And regarding the bent clip on, leave that to what the service center guys suggest. Since it isn't a handlebar like naked bikes, I think bending the clip on handle back straight will be difficult.
Dear fellow members, I own a CBR 250r std-non abs(2018), after the periodic service it had developed a brake issue. After picking the bike up from service and commuting through traffic for 30 mins or so(8-10kms), when I pulled in the front brake it went almost all the way in and at the almost end brake was getting applied, also noticed the front brakes were jammed a little as the bike refused to pull forward at some forty to fifty speed, also noticed the disc was very hot. Parked it to the side of the service road, for 20 mins or so. After this the brake feel came back and started riding. But the issue came back soon after some time. Could you please give some insight, improper bleeding of brakes maybe?

It can be multiple reasons. Difficult to pin point. But since this issue only started after the service, you can take it back to them and get it checked.
Few simple things you can check yourself -
Front brake fluid level sufficient ?
Any grease on the front disc ?
Brake pads worn out ?
As the issue wasn't there at all before the service and only started after you got it back from service, any fix ideally should be done for free.
