Incidentally one would not expect any engine (even a Bullet) to degrade at 7K kms. |
My hunch would be that there might be slight engine variations from what it was when assembled. Probably a true confirmation would be to run the dyno test and check for its compression?
Sometimes replacing the silly spark plug might also work wonders
And Yes i would be very surprised if its an actual case of Engine Degradation in performance :(

The other thing I can think of is that I had fitted the windscreen of the Yamaha Fazer on to the front cowl of the Duke (as an experiment). Since even after the service (including replacement of all filters, plugs, oil, etc.) did not see the top end improve, that seems to be a likely culprit as well.
Have since got it removed and gone back to the stock small bikini spoiler, but haven't managed to do a proper top end run after doing so. Anyways the difference between 139 and 142-143 is small and just a number in a real world setting. But not getting that small difference is where my doubt lies.
These photos are courtesy Sanchit Arora (Pune) from xBhp from a little later, who apparently also had the same idea. Only difference being I did not go in for the cross brace silver struts for support - simply used the 4 original mounting screws itself and adpted the holes on the windscreen to center and line up.
The other issue with this set up is that for me at 6' with a long torso, it is impossible to fully crouch with this windscreen when doing a top speed run - because the helmet hits the top edge of the windscreen and cannot go down further.

Ahh..this could also be especially when you are riding it cross winds. This will for sure cut down speeds as this would be more of a wind diffuser than a complete fairing. The contraption looks good did it actually help u cut down windblast on to your neck?
But am sure windblast at 130kays is pretty comfortable place...

Yeah it really looks good. And yes, sitting upright the wind is zero under the level of the neck/helmet. But equally, now it gets funneled there, where earlier there was general wind blast everywhere.
Anways, the proof of the pudding will be in its eating. i.e. another top speed run in negligible headwinds and a clear stretch.
P.S. I was just bored with the 200 after the 390 went away. Nothing to do with wind blast per se (am primarily a Bulleteer remember :p)

One of the fork legs on my year and 5000km old Duke has sprung a leak.
Need to get the oil seal replaced - is it a good idea to get both seals and oil replaced together? The technician says one seal (and oil) replacement would suffice.
Any idea if Bajaj has improved the quality of the fork oil seals, given the rather high number of complaints?
Thanks! |
Replacing only the affected oil seal (and oil) should be sufficient.
I doubt if they have even considered improving the quality of fork oil seals. My Duke is just over a month old, 700 on the odo with oil leaking from front left fork.
Had my first service done last week. Noticed paint chipping on the front mudguard. Brought it to the notice of the service manager and he promised to replace it under warranty. However they are yet to do it as they are out of stock!
Will be visiting them early next week and hope to get the oil seal and mudguard replaced under warranty.
Awesome time log doc! We need more posts like these for the Lil' Duke.
Last week, I bought a pre-owned, 8 month old Duke 200 with 9k clicks on the odo and impeccable history. Planning to get the third service done.
I have a question - Which is the best KTM service centre in Bangalore? The previous owner recommended the one on kasturba road.
Thanks all!
It's been 3 months since i bought a preowned duke for my first bike and it's safe to say that this thread has been instrumental in shaping my decision. While my love affair has been very very good, it however has a few low points
-off late there is a rattling sound coming from the gas tank cap and it is a bit distracting.
- since the past 2 weeks whenever i switch on the headlamps, the temperature display shoots up and displays "high coolant temperature". This however isnt a rise in the actual temperature and it lowers down when i switch off the lights. Hasnt been much of a problem since i dont really use the bike in the nights due to the temperature drop (have to get it checked up soon)
-the tail is flimsy and pathetic. It hits the tires whenever i go over a bump at a considerable speed.
Apart from these small niggles, my relation is goung strong. Also i've been meaning to get my bike wrapped or plasti dipped. I would be greatful if someone could help me with this.

Hey guys,
I'm looking to replace the rear tire of my D200. Looking at the Michelin Pilot Street Radial available at Let's Gear Up.
The front tire is perfect at 110/70 however they only have a 140/70 rear as opposed to the stock 150/60 tires that the Duke comes shod with.
I wanted to know if it's alright going with the 140/70 rear tire, are there any negatives to do doing that? Experts please advice. I'm a novice at this.
Thanks in advance!

Well not an expert, but remember reading that if the rim size permits, you can go one size down without much of an issue. In fact it would slightly improve your initial since the rolling resistance and contact patch is slightly reduced.

I'm not sure of the calculations, but the side wall height should be about the same for 150/60 versus 140/70. In fact the 140/70 will be slightly taller which is actually a good thing for two reasons:
1) More cushioning, plusher ride (you may loose out a bit on the handling though). But a good allround compromise.
2) More protection for the edges of the alloys which tend to bend when hitting edges of potholes or stones hard when leaned over. The current aggressive low profile tyres offer very little cushion. I've mentione this a long time before on this same thread.
Please post photographs of the tyres and their tread pattern as well as the costs. Would love to have alternatives. Mine have about 3-4 K kms of life left before I too would be looking for a replacement.
That's the tire tread pattern in the picture enclosed.
Costs are:
110/70-17 (F) - Rs. 4165/
140-70-17 (R) - Rs. 5485/
I'll go buy them this weekend and install them at the SVC. Unfortunately they don't do tire installs, I'll have to tie it to my ride or something to take it to the SVC.
Looks nice. Would be great to get regular feedback on these from you please after the install. Price-wise these would slot in exactly midway between the Revz and the Metzelers.

I'll keep you posted Doc. Rides planned for the end of the year should give me a good picture. Thanks for the help :thumbs up
Replaced with MRF's, advised against the tire change by even the guys selling the tires. Decided I don't want to lose the handling. Just have to live with the grip in the wet.
There are people on the Facebook KTM owners group though who are quite happy with the Michelins.

How much are the stock MRF's for? Front and rear?
