Bajaj launches the Boxer in a new 150cc avatar

Bajaj Auto, India’s second largest bike maker, rolled out its popular Boxer 100cc bike in a new 150cc avatar.

Despite an alluring price tag of about Rs 42,051 (ex-showroom Delhi), Boxer, the cheapest 150cc bike in India, is far from a best-seller since its launch in September 2011.

Boxer 150cc has been positioned as a "Bharat Bike" for customers in rural India who want more power for the price they pay. Bajaj Auto is selling close to 2500 to 3000 Boxer 150cc bikes per month in India on average, a source said. To boost sales, the company is currently marketing the bike in 16,000 villages. In this campaign, demo vans showcase the bike to introduce the concept of this bike and allow customers to experience it through test rides.

When contacted, a Bajaj Auto official said that the company has created a new category “power commuter” through the Boxer 150cc bike and it could take time to establish the new model.

Analysts on the other hand say, sales are much below expectations and that could force the company to reposition the bike. This is a disappointment for Bajaj Auto since tapping the rural demand will be key for the company to take on rival Hero MotoCorp, which sees 45 per cent of its sales from rural customers.

Any idea what are the acceleration figures of this bike? 0-60 and 0- 80 numbers and how do they stack up against other 150cc contenders?

With looks like these :

I doubt of 0-60 matters much! I think the 150 is there purely for the reason of lugging more load than its 100cc competition. Along with this, I think the Discover 150 is pretty much a non-mover too!

HAHAHA.

You know, I had a Boxer CT-Ktec. It had a mighty acceleration figure of 0 -60 under 10 sec. After tuning, the bike could even do a wheelie, however like a grandmom though.

What I would appreciate is the 'price' at which Bajaj has managed to launch this model.
On the spec sheet this model offers quite a lot for the price of 42k - 150cc Engine (not a DTSi though), Electric start, robust / strong looks, SnS suspension. Just to compare - 100cc Splendor with electric start comes at 46k.
Having achieved this cost advantage, Bajaj can tweak up the negatives in the next model at least.

That has been Bajaj's hallmark. They manage to do just that most of the times when compared to their competitors.

Plus they are good at managing overall finances. I suppose Bajaj is the most profitable mfr in India.
But as the trend seems Boxer may not add tot that score.

Ahh! After 125cc, Bajaj is now pushing a 150cc engine to every bike they make. This one though is non DTSi. Thank god they stopped M50/M80, if they were still in production, we could have easily seen 125cc engine doing duty on these too if not 150cc!!

Hardly noticed that a 150cc was launched in Sep 2011. Being a owner of the old Boxer i think it is a workhorse but why do it after such a long time.

So should i think of a upgrade now??

Re: Bajaj launches the Boxer in a new 150cc avatar

I own this one and completed 3 years last month of niggle free ownership. With an on-road price of less than 50K, this is a total 'paisa vasool' kind of bike! Gives me an average of 50-55 km in city traffic, maintenance free except for periodic servicing. I wonder, why did they stop production?
