According to reports, former Formula 1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone's private collection of 69 Formula 1 cars is up for sale.

Reports state that instead of an auction, all 69 examples in Ecclestone's collection will be sold via private deals brokered by Tom Hartley Jnr, a specialist dealership in the UK. The total value of Ecclestone's collection is estimated to be around $400 million.

Some of the cars in the former F1 boss's collection include a range of Brabham F1 cars from the 1970s and 1980s when Ecclestone owned the team. Others include the BT46 'fan car' designed by Gordon Murray, the 1958 Vanwall VW10 driven by Sir Stirling Moss, a 1951 Ferrari 375 which was driven by Alberto Ascari & clinched Ferrari's first-ever F1 victory and Michael Schumacher's F2002; among plenty others.

Speaking about the sale of his collection, Ecclestone stated, "I am 94, and with luck, I might have a few years longer—who knows?—but I didn't want to leave Fabi [his third wife, Fabiana Flosi] wondering what to do with them if I was no longer around. After collecting and owning them for so long, I would like to know where they have gone."

Wonder why he kept them for so long? I mean it's not like he was driving them, even once in a while? Great investment I guess, fantastic return. Am sure they'll go fast.

On a lighter note, am pretty sure his wife made him get rid of them! On a much, much, much smaller scale I was made to get rid of 2 bikes I wasn't using as well! Good to know even former-motorsport-autocrats and billionaires aren't immune to things like that!

Dont think he was collecting them for a return, just toys he loved. Doubt he had ever raced them.

He's just make things easier for his wife and settling his assets.
Considering he admitted to tax fraud and paid $800+ million as a tax fine last year! Prior to that his personal wealth was estimate at $3 billion.

Interview with the man himself, not necessarily about the collection.
