2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

The 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP has been cancelled. Dorna, which holds the commercial rights, has said that “operational circumstances” forced them to call off the race. It also stated that the organisers are working to hold the event in 2026.

The Bharat GP was scheduled to be held at the beginning of the 2025 season. However, reports suggest that the local authorities were unable to secure the funds required to organize such a big event in time.

Earlier this year, MotoGP signed an agreement with the Uttar Pradesh government, to host the Grand Prix of India at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) between 2025 and 2027.

MotoGP was first held in India in 2023. However, in 2024, the Indian round was cancelled over issues arising out of non-payment of dues by its Indian organizers.

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

Just today read about Vengsarkar admiring the new NCA which has 4 cricket grounds, 80 net practice pitches, indoor pitches, Olympic swimming pool, gym and what not !

More private partnerships are needed in creating more infrastructure as CSR activity. We need to encourage sports other than cricket.

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

While we need to be sad about the event getting cancelled, we need to stop blaming cricket for every problem other sports face. While not comparable, there are other sports getting funds now though it should improve heavily.

It is public news that Indian organizers went back on their word regarding payment in 2023, forcing Motogp to cancel in 2024. So please stop with the cricket bashing.

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

What a shame. Even after fans paid INR40 for a glass of water, INR200 for aerated drinks, INR400 for a light lunch, the organizers couldn't generate enough funds to pay Dorna and to keep the show running.

Malaysia has much more nominal prices for tickets, way more affordable food & drinks options and has been running the show for decades now. We ought to learn something from others for sure. Crying shame this!!

I had bought Main grandstand tickets for the Malaysian GP even happening between Nov 1 and 3 this year, but would not be able to make it due to personal commitments

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

In a way i am glad that MotoGP is not happening again in India, My friends went to watch the race in 2023 and mentioned the staff there was horrible and multiple other issues like influencer wannabe's, a T-shirt being sold for 10K (these were not even1/3rd the price in Assen when i visited in 2022), It was not hard to see the Race Marshalls clueless on how to support a crashed rider, all this kind of ruins the experience.I think its for the best if these sports (F1 & MotoGP) does not happen in our country.

Damn.

I managed to miss both the F1 races and the only MotoGP event. Guess I will have to save up for a foreign trip, because there's no way either is coming back.

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

One of my friends who went to see the race last time told me that there were a HUGE number of YouTube creators in the stands. The suprising bit was that some of them have never uploaded a single video about motorcycles and still they had got seats in the glass booth. The same thing happened with the recent Coldplay concerts in Mumbai where vloggers from Delhi NCR who did not even know about Coldplay were flexing their free passes. The organisers should realise that 0 amount of people are going to come to the event due to these guys and they are only reducing their profit by giving these morons VIP treatment.

Seriously I won't even look back if I saw these people on the road as I can't see the reason of their popularity and don't want to associate myself with them.

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

I lost my complete trust in the organisers once reports emerged of them not paying their bills on time. Any organisation that doesn't pay its vendors on time, then makes up silly excuses, loses my respect. Not paying Dorna is one thing, but when you don't pay your vendors, it is shameful. All businesses have employees to pay and indirectly, homes to run, mouths to feed.

I knew then, there is no chance of Fairstreet hosting a MotoGP in India again.

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

I have been following F1 for a decade now & have been told by my friend (Team BHPian as well) that Moto GP is more interesting than F1. Regardless of i see the races, I follow about the Moto GP plans for India last year, this year & next year & so on..

Getting news rolled out that we are going to host such International events & then cancelling it at last minute(each year), just shows how much still pre-mature we are to plan such events.

Needless to say, F1 events getting planned, then getting cancelled & similar way for MotoGP events as well is going to bring extra fear to organizers in future, when they think of India.

As they say in Tamil "Nalla peyar vaanga naal aagum, aana ketta peyar elithil vangi vidalam" which translates to "We can get bad name quickly, but to come out of it & get good name, it will take long long time". So, we have to now host multiple events in future without any error to come out of this bad name. I sincerely hope that we would do it one day.

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

This is disappointing. While the experience last year to me was kind of average, was hoping things could be better in the subsequent seasons with the learnings in place. Sadly this is not to be, and who knows if the race will happen in 2026 also. With so many nuances involved in holding motorsports just building a nice race track is not good enough, as it requires a certain degree of foresight, planning, execution and seamless coordination to be able to successfully host these races.

We are still stuck at the first stage even after more than a decade of hosting the first F1 race, and this is quite frustrating. So for fans like me the better option is to choose and watch the race from many of our neighboring Asian countries who host this now and enjoy the thrill of live racing..

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

How much did local car and bike manufacturers show interest (by sponsoring) this event? And/Or how many western car/bike makers want their brand to be seen in India?

If you ever see a F1 or MotoGP event it is all about international brand building. Dorna may have simply failed to get sponsors on board which the likes of Ecclestone pulled off brilliantly 3 decades ago.

I will give a parallel food for thought - How many players are there in inland Rally circuit - JK Tyres, MRF, Ceat, TVS, MMRT, Kari - how are these continuing to operate while big names like F1 and MotoGP are not able to?

Re: 2025 MotoGP Bharat GP cancelled due to operational issues

The 2023 event was badly organized from the get go. Visas were not issued up until the last moment, some of the moto3 teams got allocated substandard accommodation (Taylor Mackenzie talks about this ordeal in his YouTube channel). I remember seeing on race day, an old truck was used to clean the track leaked oil on Turn1 and caused delays for clean up. The riders had a tough time with the heat. The audience turnout also wasn't as great as expected. Lots of hurdles to cross if it is to happen in 2026.

We can't even do that right. Have you seen the mismanagement at cricket stadiums? People complain about queues, toilets, lack of amenities.
