Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

Not sure whether this warrants a new thread. If you didn't get enough of the 2021 Verstappen vs Hamilton rivalry in DTS 4, check out this video dedicated to it for each race.

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

Almost finished watching Season 5, and it is quite on expected lines. The highlights of the 2022 season have been covered:

- All the porpoising issues, especially with Mercedes
- What seemed like the resurgence of Ferrari at the beginning of the season, and how it went downhill
- The driver merry-go-round and the contract uncertainties: esp with Mick, Alonso and Checo

For some reason, maybe because this season wasn't as eventful as the earlier one, the episodes seem to get over quickly. Just felt there wasn't much depth.

Seb's retirement is almost like a footnote, while Ricciardo and Mick take up quite some real estate.

Overall, still very enjoyable. 4/5

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

The controversy of max not letting checo ahead has not been covered. Looks like RB did not want that to be rekindled.

Seb’s retirement - Absolutely nothing much shown.

Overall I don’t think there’s much to miss if you don’t watch it. No major behind the scenes’ stuff.

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

I didn’t watch all, but couple of, and felt like it was too much dramatized. Some of the interviews or behind the scenes appeared to be staged rather than natural. May be, it’s just the skepticism in me

Finally

But I wonder what will they show this season?
A yawn while Max wins race after race?

-Perez's poor form
-Rivalry in Ferrari camp (poor strategy runs)
-Exceptional performance from McLaren
-Initial Aston Martins copying Red Bulls
-Marko's senile moments

what else?

They're definitely showing Daniel Riccardo's dramatic comeback from test driver to Alpha Tauri race seat. And a log of footage of Gunther Steiner.

Other than these, Perez and Piastri will have a lot of coverage. And hopefully some brilliant racing viz. Singapore, Brazil, Montreal etc

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

it was actually fantastic to watch "Brawn" and "Drive to Survive S06" in that order
Now I all geared up for the new season and this time I am expecting a totally new World Champion - if betting was legal in India, I would bet my last penny on Oscar Piastri. Hope he makes it to big league this year and for sure win some fantastic podiums, ultimate goal will of course be World Championship. If Max can do it he too can.
Hamilton may shine back next year with Ferrari as I am sure Merc is not going to upset Red bull supremacy, they may be at par with Ferrari and better than McLaren and Aston Martin but for sure will be no match Red bull.
Charles doesn't have that in him to be a world champion (in my opinion) not with Ferrari at least and it's too late for Sainz as well.
Alonso for sure can't better last year unless they have made tremendous progress with his car this year around.

Eagerly looking forward to the First Race.
Who is your winner this year?

I haven't seen Season 6 yet, its planned for the coming weekend. In Season 5, my favorite episode is "Like Father, Like Son". This one gave me goosebumps. When Michael Schumacher and Jos Verstappen are having holiday time with their sons. Michael having little Max in his lap. Michael then discussing with Jos about their son's career choices

Twenty years later, how the roles have reversed. Little Max is now the champion and all conquering driver just like Michael Schumacher was, whereas Mick Schumacher is now struggling in F1 like Jos Verstappen used to be.

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

Watched DTS S06. It's definitely not as exciting as the initial seasons yet it was a decent season to binge. Also, did they totally ignore Alfa Romeo this season or did I miss it? F1 anyway has become too predictable.

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

DTS can only work if the championship is close and exciting. For the past couple of years, DTS has been on a downtrend for me. I actually keep fast-forwarding most bits. How can this series not cover Red Bull and Max is just plain bonkers.
