@Eddy - You must be talking about idemitsu oil. Yes there is a company that manufactures these oils.

More info here.

Now, this semi-synthetic is CF4 while a mineral GTX Diesel is CI4. Which one is better ?

Eddy, Petrol and diesel engine oils have different API ratings.
For a petrol semi-synth, API-SM is very good and thats what the Idemitsu 10W40 is. So, you can use that in your petrol Ikon.

Any idea about distributor of Shell?

zerocritical: I think there is one whole sale distributor on the road connecting the LALBAGH road and the JC road ( am not too sure about the roads, but do remember going to that shop during MOBIL1 distributor shop search). If you happen to be near minerva circle and go towards corporation, take the 1st right into the road that connects the lalbagh road and you have this shell distributorin between.

Hmmmm. But the oil I mentioned is a diesel engine oil. API CF4 but costlier than a API CI4 oil. I was comparing the two for my diesel swift.

Castrol GTX diesel is one of the best oils(mineral) your swift can have. No worry

it was for 4ltrs, i guess then its old stock, because packing also looked like it was lying there for long time .....

I too just bought 4 litre Shell helix Ultra 5W-40, for Rs 3000/-. MRP was 3060/- Cannot make out the year of import, maybe 2006 or 2007, but the label looks really faded.
Is there a shelf life for synthetics?

Hi,

My Name is Tanay Agarwal. The first time I am posting a Query. I hope I am in the right forum.

I Own 2 Cars
1. Tata Indigo LS (2005)
2. Maruti Swift VDi with ABS (2008)

Both these cars are diesel cars.:thumbs up

I am looking out to change their engine oil to synthetic ones, which i have heard give very good performance compared to the normal oil we get.

I just need to know the oil specification which I can use and also If the filter, etc needs to be upgraded for this.
Does this really give a boost to performance or only reduces wear & tear.
Please do let me know.

With Best Speeds,
Tanay
