Spoke to Shell, they had 5W-40 and 15W-50(Skoda uses it)

Now what to do, stick to 5W-50 and go all the way to Opera house or change grade.

Car - Chevrolet Optra 1.8
Flush GM uses - OWS

Saw a online report which says that 5w-40 is the upgraded version of 15w-50 and I can confirm that Skoda in Bangalore atleast is using the 5W-40

650 per liter is Mobil1. You wont get 3.5Liters, you will get 4L can.

Go for Mobil1 better then Castrol IMHO.

There are two types of flushing:

1) Using regular flushing oil (approx 100 rs/lit), just put in the recommended quantity (same as engine oil capacity) and run the car at slightly raised idle (1500-2000 rpm) for 10-15 mts, drain and refill.

This is pretty safe and recommended for high milaege engines

2) Using flushing products (OWS, STP etc) for flush.
These are detergents/chemicals which will clean the inards, if done every 20,000 kms will be ok but for older engines it can cause issues at times.

So @panky: get some flushing oil and flush and then put the semi synthetic oil in.

Engine Oil for Accent CRDi

Oil specification as per the manual

Multigrade : 15w40
Standard : API-CF4 or Above

And I use Mobil 1 5w-50

Am I using the right oil?

Cheers

Could you explain this? I was under the impression (and do correct me if I'm wrong) that the added protection synth oil provides would be beneficial to an old engine. What risks are you referring to? I agree that flushing might lead to removal of some deposits that act as seals, but why is using synth oil a risk in itself?

This is what the OWS flush does.

For the Petrol Indica, U can use 5W50 of a reputed brand like Mobil1,OWS, Shell helix ultra, etc.
Do flush ur engine before changing to synthetic.
