Suggest you run for more than 1k on stock or company's oil. Not sure if castrol activ is full synth. Have heard of only Power1 or that thing in a silver canister. Apart from that you have shell advance which I have used and am totally satisfied. By the way, what grade of oil is used?

10W30 according to other owner reports in Team-BHP. Is that the optimal one for the conditions at Kochi or can it be changed? How much does Shell Advance cost?

Go as per manufacturers recommendation. 10W30 is what is recommended by Honda too. I put in 10W40 shell advance ultra. It costed 700 with bill for a one liter can. The ride is just amazing. Changed both engine as well as transmission oil with the one liter can. Guess my next oil change will be at 5k kms.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

My Palio MJD is running semi synthetic. I wish to upgrade to fully synthetic. USer manual originally recommended:
SAE 15W40 multi grade mineral engine oil
Performance level API CD CC MCPD2

Whats the best VFM fully synthetic oil and grade/rating I should consider.

Also, I came accross this:http://www.99rpm.com/mobil-super-mgd...cbfaf23d442a4d

I find this VFM and also the quantity is just apt as my Palio needs 3.25ltr. Down side is it takes 7-9 days for shipment. Can I find this oil anywhere I can order online or is there any place in Bangalore I can get this oil.

My car has done 40k kms, do I also need to flush to upgrade to fully synthetic?

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

My Swift Dzire VXI (1.3L - 2008 model) is due for 50K service this weekend and I am planning to put fully synthetic oil. Not sure MASS will have brands other than Servo.

Please suggest best suitable fully synthetic forDzire VXI.
Any idea if I buy oil from outside and take it to MASS for my car, will they replace oil other than MSIL recommended oil ?

In the climate conditions of Kochi 10W30 and 0W30 will behave about the same.

I would suggest you buy from outside as the MRP for Mobil-1 0W-40 is Rs.4900/-. I got it outside for Rs.3600/- So the difference is huge.

Check with the MASS what would be price charged to you before proceeding.

Cheers

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Actually I last Saturday at the time of service replaced oil with Mobil 1 - 5W40 @ INR 888 per ltr from MASS.
Now will monitor for difference in performance if any and post after a long drive.

My facelifted i20 diesel is due second service (10,000 kms), let me know whether I should go for the mineral oil or synthetic oil. Also please let me know the cost of both (i20 diesel requires 5.4 litres).

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

^^ Synthetic or mineral, you will have to replace the oil at the interval specified by the car maker (xx Months / xx KM). Go for synth if your car will run that much KM in the specified period. Else it will be better to stick with mineral / semi-synth.

Synthetic oils typically cost 3 - 4 times as much as mineral oils.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Since 20K Kms I am using Mobil1 Synthetic Oil for my Dzire ZDI. Now MASS has moved from Mobil 1 to Castrol Edge Professional 5W-40. So, I would like to know how good is this Castrol Edge and is it fine moving to Castrol from Mobil1. (OR) Should I stick to Mobil1? Currently the ODO is at 58K+, will be going for the 60K servicing in few weeks time.

Yes, Castrol EDGE can be used in your swift.
How much are they charging for a litre of the castrol?
