Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

I am using Mobil1 0W40 in my Hyundai Accent GLE (Petrol) since last 3 oil changes. It is the correct oil or should I switch to some other grade ( 5W50 Mobil1 / 5W40 Shell)?

There is nothing wrong with the Oil you are using. Just that an oil with grade 0WXX is not really necessary until and unless you drive in very low temp conditions. Both the MOBIL 1 and Shell are arguably amongst the best oils for your engine so you need not change it.

You may switch to 5W50 grade if your car sees a lot of high revving and is usually used for long duration high speed stints with engine running at high RPMs.

Regards.

.
I drive mostly in the city and once in 6 months a highway trip. In city, the RPM never crosses 3K and on highways, it stays around 3K.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Hello Gurus,

I came across an article on synthetics interesting article that points out that all synthetics are not similar.

Kindly suggest what synthetic oils available currently fits the grade 4 as mentioned by the author.

I am late to the party so excuse me and direct me towards the post with the same discussion. Thanks!

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Hi All,

Had a chance to drive long after shifting to 20W40 SF grade Shell MGO.

The oil is really good if not better than Magnatec (Both 5W30 & 10W40)

My car is M800 (66K run), and i believe than atleast in older tech engines synthetic does not make any sense. I really think that i should have tried this oil long before instead of trying Mobil1, Magnatec etc.

For newer tech engines like K10, K12 & VTecs synthetic may make sense.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

For oil performance assessment, a UOA (Used oil analysis) should be done.
Just a "seat of the pants" opinion is worth nothing.
I'm attaching a sample of the UOA. Check it out.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

^^ nitrous, would you also have the UOA sheet for some mineral oil (similar grade) for comparison? If yes, please post that as well.

Drive safe.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Need some advice from experts out here on oil for swift diesel. my car has done 50000 kms and is due for service. since beginnning the car has been serviced at MSM and the oil changes were done at 10000kms interval. but last 2 oil changes were done at 5000kms interval.

engine flushing has been done once ard 35000kms and got the EGR cleaned recently.

After going through this thread most people are suggesting mobil delvac mx and the change interval at 5000 kms. also how often should you I get engine flushing done. should i do it at every oil change.

How beneficial or effective is engine oil additive and fuel additive? Kindly suggest.

Engine flushing is not a mandatory job. It has to be done every 30 or 40K kms depending on the engine deposits.

Engine oil additive as per me is a pure gimick to charge customers extra money. all the additives needed are already present in the oil that one uses.

you may find more info on diesel engine oil in the following thread -
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...e-oils-35.html

Fuel additives - here the opinion is divided. I had good experience in terms of fuel additives. engine was smooth and accelarator response improved. While some on this forum had negative experience. there is a thread on fuel additives please go thru the same for more inputs.
