For 10 days its not a problem. Get atleast API-SJ(SL if possible) standard oil from any brand. Castrol GTX extra etc., meet API-SJ atleast.
that said if your car is running low on oil so soon, there is something wrong with your engine.
A car should not eat engine oil like this.

Its been a long time since i sent my car for serviving as i didnt get time....

Had been spending to much time out of town.... As it is i have very low running of the car usually drive on sundays...

Maybe the low oil level is due to the car not been sent for serviving for a long time....

Anyways thanx alot buddy for the information provided....

Cheers !!!

Castrol Magnatec ( Premium Mineral Oil)

Castrol GTX ( Regular Mineral Oil)

Just make sure you buy from a authorised dealer, Castrol Oil cans have Hologram Sealing.

What about Castrol Edge?

@TSk Castrol Magnatec is supposed to be API SM/CF, so what that be better then GTX?

Castrol edge is a synthetic oil, will cost you around 2000rs.
As for GTX magnatec it is API-SM, and therefore the highest mineral grade in petrol. Go for it. Additionally you can put in STP/Bardahl engine oil additive too.

Is that Rs.2000 a liter?? and any idea how much would GTX magnatec cost?

What do you recommend ? Coz its about time for my service another 2500 Kms Left, so probably next month is service time.

Nope 2000rs for around 3 liters or so, don't know the exact quantity.
Castrol GTX magnetic costs around 700rs for the same quantity.

If you want to go synthetic EDGE is a good one.
If you want to go all the way EDGE sport is a higher grade synthetic, probably on par with offerings from Mobil.

In non synthetic land GTX magnetic seems to be a good deal.
Just make sure you go for API-SM atleast(Magnatec meets this)

But does it make any sense to switch to synthetic as i have already run about 27K on mineral. I know that i would need to get the Engine flushed.

How much oil does that Swift Engine require ?

Are there any other viable options and cost effective options other then Castrol ?

Synthetic oil is recommended, but many people have run their engines for 150,000kms+ on mineral. In extreme conditions(busted radiator, cooling system malfunction etc.,) synthetic will protect your engine better. Other than that if your engine lasts 170000 on mineral, on synthetic it may last 50000 more. The numbers are academic actually, you would probably sell the car before this.

The answer is in a small book measuring 8 inches by 4 inches(approximate) lying in a compartment right in front of where the front passenger sits.

In synthetic land castrol EDGE is the cheapest I saw. I think shell has a semi synthetic oil, don't remember the brand name, you will need to do some hunting in an auto market
In non synthetic land you have Shell and Castrol to choose from if you want API-SM. I would say the castrol GTX Magnatec with a STP etc., engine oil additive is a good cost effective solution.

Castrol Magnatec for 1 year service (Wagon R)

I am going to get my WagonR's 1-year service in a day or two. My running is very little, only clocked 3700 kms or so in a year, but most of my runs are short trips, start-go- and back.

I have always used Servo till now - what are my options for a premium mineral oil

Only one I know is Castrol Magnatec. Is there is a Mobil equivalent? Other premium mineral oils?

johy go with magnatec thats the best oil for your kind of situation and is relatively inexpensive.

Drain the existing servo oil completely and change the oil filter and watch the engine become smoother after couple of mts driving

Umm.. for a car that totally holds under 4 litres, a 2 litre top up is a bit much.

Folks,

It finally happened. My car's date with better lubrication. Today May 02 2007 shall be noted in the annals of history for such. I've left her at RNS for the 3rd free service. Supervised the engine flushing with the Abro I'd bought, draining of the old oil, chucking the old oil filter, putting a new one and finally galoshing the star of the show- Mobil 1, into the engine.

I'll post a before-after feel of the car when I pick her after work today or tomorrow.
