Last time I visited the Shell station, I saw the 1 litre can @ Rs 615.00 but did not notice that the viscocity was different. But it was 2009 vintage only, I am sure of that. When I went again yesterday, I wanted to buy it for a friend, but it was sold out. They still had 4 litre cans priced around Rs 4000 and they were 2008 vintage. It was only when I questioned them about the apparent difference in prices that they showed me the chart and explained the different grades. Looks like the 15W50 is made in India whereas the 5W40 is still imported.

Oh dear!
Not to take anything away from my country. But, It would be like Potenza GIIIs made in India.
I would really like to go through the tech details of both the grades.
Personally, after my current stint on Mobil1 5W50 , I'm moving over to the lighter 5W40.

I visited Shell today also to fill petrol for the bike, but only the 5W40 was available. As soon as I find the 15W50 oil, I will note down the API specs and mfg details of both and post them here.

I have seen Jaso specs only in Motorcycle specific oils and never in car oils. But the oil recommended in the manual of my Splendor, and what I used initially before the introduction of HH4T+ oil, was just Servo Super Multigrade 20W40 oil, which I am sure is a car oil. Also the oil they change for bikes at the Shell station (believe me, quite a few guys get it changed there) if M/C oil is out of stock is the Helix 20W50 API-SG, without any issues.

Also, I buy oil from the Shell station to avoid spurious stuff. I don't trust the few oil dealerships in my area, and will have to travel to GP road otherwise.

Where to get that, if it is not available in their website?

Try speaking to the manager of the Shell pump.

I have read about MOTUL engine oils used for bikes. There is no mention about MOTUL Engine Oils used for Cars.

Yesterday I saw their stall in AUTOMALL Car Expo. They have good range of products.

Can any one throw some light on quality of their products?

^^^ Is the stuff imported or Indian? Motul bike oils imported from France are the best available. The Made in India stuff is also good, when compared to similarly competing products. For eg. the Made in India bike oils they have are said to significantly better than say Castrol... but not quite as good as Gulf Oil.

I would definitely consider trying their car oils, if they "look" good. Any idea which grades are available in India?

I am currently using Motul Tekma Mega (15W-40/API CI-4) in my 2.2 Safari.The results are quite good though not as good as Delo-400

I was planning to change the engine oil of my Vtec(presently i am using Castrol GTX Magnatec). is the oil fine or should i change it? i believe 15W40 would suffice my requirements as i run it in the hills. operating temperatures vary around -5Cto-10C in the middle of winters to 30C-35C in summers

Magnatec is 10W40.
Do not move to 15W40 since your ambient temperatures are too low.
I would recommend 5W40 fully synthetic oil though.

Hi, I think Magnatec and GTX are different oils? Are you mixing them by anychance?
