Hows the experience after shifting to Castrol Magnatec? I have heard many good reviews about it. |
I shifted to Castrol Magnatec in my Zen after using mineral oil for 83K KM. The improvement is very noticeable. I'm happy with the oilclap:.

Today I had taken the vehicle to Lavasa from Panvel. Frankly speaking nothing much to report on the difference. But then I feel that my vehicle having only clocked around 15000 kms the difference cannot be much to feel.
Hope I am correct. |
You are. A lot of the perceived difference is in people's heads.
Where can I get Petronas oils in Bangalore ? I need mineral oil for a brand new (<500Kms) engine

Good refresher though.
A related good news thanks to the relentless follow up by a fellow Tbhp'ian, i came to know that we might be getting Mobil Delvac 1 (Diesel specific oil), in couple of months here in India (4 Liter packs). :) |
Don't know if this has already been answered in this thread.
Can I use the Mobil Delvac1 in my all new Ikon tdci? Will this oil make any change to the engine performance.
Mine has just done 5k, so I beleive a flush ain't required. As informed earlier in this post, flush is no required before 20k. So should I go with this oil change without a flush?
Few bhpian's have been using this oil. From where did you manage to get it?
Last, from where can I get Mobil Delvac1 in Delhi?
Which brand of Mineral Oil is best for Alto BS II ?
I don't need a synthetic since I drain the oil every 5K.

Yes you can use Delvac 1 on iKON tdci and no need for flush, ensure they drain the old oil completely and replace the oil filter.
Though i would suggest you wait till 10k kms, since diesel engines require some more running in and 10k km mark is a good point to shift, but thats just me :)

I would suggest Castrol Magantec, bang for bucks oil.

Thanks for the advice. But it's Viscosity is SAE 10W-40. For Alto 20W-40 is needed, Right ?
What's the price ?
Try to get Petronas Mach5. I am using 20W50 in one of my cars. It is API-SM, is cheaper than Magnatec, and is a pure mineral oil.

+1 to that. My Santro is nearing its 60k service and since I run on Mobil 1, I'm planning to shift to Petronas' Syntium.
Will appreciate it if someone shed light on the same.
Thanks,
gpa

Magnatec is supposed to be a semi-synth. For mineral, consider Petronas/Mobil/Valvoline/etc... many options! 10W40 should be ok... don't you have a chart in the manual?

The lower number should be equal to or less than 20W, while the upper one should be equal to or higher than 40. This is what I understand after reading up on this subject.
The owners' manual has a chart which shows that 15W40, 20W40 and 20W50 are all OK. I am using the Shell Helix Super mineral oil (15W40, API SL) for my two month old Alto. Costs Rs 915.00 for a 4 litre can. I intend to change the oil every six months, so no synth for me.
Jumping in to clarify again that this semi synth thing is marketing humbug, Magnatec is a mineral oil. Magnatec is better than Shell Helix because of a one step better API spec, and a wider grade of 10w40. Which by the way is fine for the Alto.
But really there isn't much of a difference between the Shell referred by Gansan and the Magnatec. Use whatever is cheaper, and what you can be sure is authentic and not spurious. Don't overfill, and if you change the oil every 6 months, both oils will give you long and reliable engine life.
As a 10w oil, the Magnatec may give you a little better FE, but I am not sure the difference will be statistically significant.

Petronas Mach5!! is it for diesel or for petrol vehicles only. And is it better than the Mobil Delvac 1?
I own a Ikon TDCi, so would this be the best one for my baby?
Someone please: tell me, where can I get Mobil Delvac1 or Petronas in Delhi/NCR?

I have a year old Pajero, and it has done very well on Castrol RX Super Plus. That is a CH 4 spec, current tech diesel engine dedicated oil, and since I change the oil every 6 months regardless of kms run, with a 8 litre sump, it makes a lot of sense to me. Obviously I cannot say this conclusively, because I have not lifted the head to see how things look! But the factory service station is ok with the oil too. It is also easily available.
