....why do I need the frame mount.

The most common reasons for the frame mount are actually shortcomings in the design of the housings. There are some other advantages too:

EDIT: Here's a cheaper frame mount : http://www.wocase.com/stadard-frame.html

Here are a couple of pics from the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition.

I'm still trying to get the hang of it :D

If you have a newer version of photoshop, a little bit of lens correction (actually, a lot of lens correction) can help the GoPro images get rid of that curvature at the sides. This wasn't the best example, but you'll get the point:

I'd say go for the GoPro one. Two reasons:
1) The latest design is very low-profile. This keeps the camera's center of gravity lower, which also helps reduce vibrations/shake and leverage against the camera due to wind-force at high speeds.
2) If you buy a cheap one and your camera falls off, you'll regret it!
...
...
Also, most expensive "branded" mounts are usually made by the same suppliers as the more affordable generic mounts (eg. the old suction cup by GoPro used Panavise - though with a different camera mount).

I've even used some Chinese ebay mounts ($5-10 shipped!) and they were just as good, despite not being made of the highest quality materials.
...

Thanks for those wonderful tips!

So, I checked out the official GoPro mount - from their site and amazon and this is what I am getting -

Amazon -
Items: $25.94
Shipping: $9.48
Import Fees Deposit: $10.95
Order total: $46.37 (almost 3k INR)

GoPro -
Item: $39.99
Shipping: $85.41 (Fedex economy global)
Taxes: on checkout
Total: $125.40 (+ some more as taxes - almost 8k INR!!)

So, now am either thinking of getting it via someone coming back or to try a cheaper Chinese alternative with some precautions - like tying it to some part of the body and also mounting it within my view.

Update -
1. GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition ordered through their official website
2. GoPro Suction Cup bought from Bestbuy
3. GoPro Frame Mount (the new one) bought from Bestbuy
4. Wasabi battery pack ordered through Amazon
5. Memory Card (64 GB Extreme Plus - Sandisk) was not readily available at bestbuy so have placed the order, should arrive soon
6. GoPole Bobber not available anywhere near where my sister lives, bestbuy had it in stock till 2 days back but its out of stock now. Wondering whether to order from gopole website or wait for bestbuy to get it in stock.

A big shout out to my sister in US who's doing all the running around for me.

It is available in Amazon India for Rs. 3165 http://www.amazon.in/GoPro-Suction-C...CZH6JS8P5K8NT4
No point ordering from US unless someone can carry it for you.

I suppose you are aware that you save quite a lot on Tax when buying from Amazon or similar online retailers instead of buying from physical shops like Best Buy. Unless your sister stays in some low-tax area, I suggest you pick up everything online.

I recently got my original Gopro suction mount for 3k in Mumbai through the official Gopro dealer. Google for the dealer in your city and get it without waiting for days.

Note from Support - Please avoid quoting an entire post as it inconveniences our mobile and handheld users.

Well, she didn't try amazon earlier but I asked her to try it now and she was still shown 6% tax before checkout. $6 shipping and $24.36 tax - total $430.35

As per her necessity items don't have tax in PA but rest of the stuff has flat 6% tax. She says that if there was a whole lot of stuff to buy then she could've gone to Delaware and done the shopping from there but since the amount isn't too much, no point going to a tax free state.

I've asked her to share the receipts from bestbuy for the suction & frame mount to figure out what she ended up paying ultimately.

In case there is a way out without paying taxes then everything from bestbuy can be returned without any fuss and even the gopro camera can be returned within 30 days.

Sharing the price break-up of items bought so far -

- GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition (ordered from gopro website) - $399.99 + $24.00 (tax) = $423.99
Following 3 items bought from Bestbuy
- GoPro Suction Cup - $25.99
- Sandisk 64GB Extreme Plus Card - $69.99
- GoPro Frame Mount - $35.99
SubTotal - $131.97 + $7.92 (tax) = 139.89

So far she's paid $31.92 in taxes.

I know, the official dealer is also quoting a similar price.

Hah, came here to suggest dx.com as well (not that I've used them myself, but still).

Also here's another frame mount : http://www.wocase.com/stadard-frame.html

I have a sneaky feeling my next purchase will be a electronic 2D gimbal :D
