Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Hi, planning to buy a Go Pro in next few days.

Options are -

1. Go Pro Hero 7 Black
2. Go Pro Hero 8

Usage -

1. Toddler/ child footage
2. Swimming pool
3. Car journeys
4. Anything else that's NOT high paced

Budget - No constraint

I am hesitant to buy the Hero 8 because of the non-changeable lens and absence of MICRO-HDMI port.

I am not 100% sure if a tempered glass will take care of scratches or lens damage due to usage as well as when abused unexpectedly by my child.

This makes me consider Hero 7 Black, that has both the features.

Absence of setting your preset modes and switching over to them quickly while capturing a shot, when using Hero 7 Black, is what is putting me off of that and making me take the risk of buying the Hero 8

Any tips or suggestions?

Also, is it better to get it from Best Buy or buy it locally from Amazon / Flipkart?

Thanks

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

I got the hero 7 black after the 8 released. The primary issue with the 8 is the lens is NON REPLACEABLE even at the factory. Their suggestion to someone on reddit was to just buy a new one. I find that insane.

About preset modes, my use case of predominantly being on a helmet meant, I would log in to one mode and leave it there for life most likely. So this was a non issue.

Buy it from the US, the warranty terms are exactly the same, no local vendor can support your warranty. In every case, you will have to ship it back to GOPro directly whether bought in India or elsewhere.

The innards and the chip between the 8 and 7 are identical, I wasn’t too keen on paying more and losing the replaceable lens in the bargain.

Based on your usage I can't see any reason that you must go for the Hero 8. The Hero 7 is just as good for your needs.

The one major difference is the better Hypersmooth 2.0 -- however, Hypersmooth on the Hero7 is also really good and might be enough for your needs.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

I'm looking out for a helmet mount action camera around $130 with the below requirement:
1. Very good battery standby (preferably with multiple batteries and ext. charger)
2. 4K (Native 4k and not upscaled)
3. Wifi capable and be able to fetch videos out from my mobile using wifi connection
4. Preferably waterproof (or atleast splash resistant on heavy rains) without a case.
5. A good mic!
6. Type C connector (micro usb would mean, I carry an extra cable which is more fault-prone than a type c)

I know the requirements are the best suited for a go-pro but are there any real cheaper alternatives to suggest?

P.S: Mentioned in dollars because, got a $50 gift card in amazon.com which I think when used now, will put the effective price to around $70

Go Pro Hero 8 Media Mod

Hi fellow Teambhpian,
I recently ordered and got GoPro Hero 8 Media Mod directly from USA through GoPro Global shipping.

As media mod is quite a useful accessory for hardcore vloggers and GoPro enthusiasts.
Its difficult to get it India as most of the time its out of stock. Therefore ordered from GoPro website with international shipping.

I have made a small unboxing and review video for reference.
In case of any queries you may ping me.
I got it for USD 80 plus shipping of USD 80, Shipping included other accesories which I ordered.

Moderators, if any existing thread exists, pls merge this into it.

Here is the link to the video.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Hi All
I recently acquired, GoPro Handlebar mount, I believe it is one of the best GoPro accessory.
Easy to fit, have 360 degree rotation module, can be fitted on motorcycle handlebars, children and adult cycles as well as children scooters.

Here is a small video I made for this, the link of you tube is as follows:

I have ordered Hero 7, Black. Along with it a Gopro mount which says it can withstand speed to an extent to 240+ kmph. Wondering if this be left fixed at the bonnet or roof of the car during the highway drives

It can, but there's always an element of risk.

I've had several GoPro (and other) mounts on cars touching 200-250 km/h (eg. at Buddh and Sepang), and when they've been attached to the car well, they are incredibly solid.

At the same time I've seen a lot of GoPros fall off. In fact I think it happened to me once as well (M5 review).

However, when it falls off, it's usually not because of extremely high speed. It's just an imperfect seal for the suction cup. And sometimes it just drops off when the car is parked!

This could be caused by something like an incredibly slow leak because of a scratch or a hair on attachment the surface.

Overall, I trust these suction mounts - but I don't take them for granted. Choose your mounting point carefully, clean it well, and ensure you're happy with the seal before proceeding. Also watch out for / avoid large temperature changes.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Hi all I made a video on GoPro Helmet mount for both offroad and Normal helmet with Mic.

I am sure this video will be helpful to fellow riders for setting up a good vlogging setup with GoPro/other action cameras on Helmets.

Thanks

Go for the original mount from GoPro. It's worth the premium. Holds up pretty well (interior and exterior).

Transfer files from Gopro to iPad.

Does someone know how to transfer files from Gopro to the iPad? I got a tracking number from my wife for my birthday last week and it was a Gopro.

I have never had one before and I am just looking into it. I have a problem. I can download the videos into the Gopro Quik app but not into the camera roll. The Quik app does not work in landscape mode and I will need an articulated head to use it as I have the iPad mounted on a keyboard.

The Gopro is set to MPT and when I connect it to the iPad lightning cable, nothing happens. I dont see the import icon on the camera roll.

One option is to take out the sd card from the camera and use it with a Lightning to SD card camera reader.

I am afraid I don't know the answer. Please post in the iPad thread https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadge...thread-42.html (The iPad Thread)
