Guys,

Today's (23/8/07) Times Auto supplement with the Bangalore Times has a small article about Autopal/Autolite India developing DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL) for use in Indian cars. It seems they already cater to export markets but domestic sales would be a first.

Worldwide, DRLs are in the verge of being introduced in many EU countries after the (overall good) experience of the Scadinavian countries where they have been mandatory for some years now.

Benefits are many and here are some links to Osram's website for the details:

My questions:
1. Are they illegal under the MV Act/Rules?
2. I have emailed Autopal but in the meantime, do you think I can fit them with minimal modifications in, say an Aveo?

IMHO, in a place like Bangalore with frequent gloomy conditions, DRLs would be big boon to increase visibility of your vehicle.

Thanks,

Daytime running lights arenot illegal at all.

also, are any of the other philips /narva lights whiter than X-treme?

the light would also need to have good focus on highway..

CARtik, the X-treme power 80%+ is not pure white, it has a yellowish tinge. No blue, thank god.

I can't get you pics for at least next two weeks, I am travelling. sorry:

As TSk pointed out, you can try your luck back home in India for half the price. But I haven't seen any member confirm the same.

On the performance side, I am really impressed by the spread. It really lights up the road when in low-beam mode. You really won't find a need to hit high beam in city driving at least. And, I am sure there are a few unruly cab drivers out there who have faced the high beam when they have irritated me.

Your best hopes for pics lie with another member, i.e. razor4077. PM him and check.

Sorry if this was asked before.

I have converted to 100/90W Philips Rallye bulbs a while ago. Would it be possible to use the OE 60/55W bulbs on the existing setup? I have changed the wiring kit to Lucas with relay and also have ceramic holders.

Hi Sorry for the late reply. It cost him about 200 US dollars but in Taiwan dollar I think it is called.

Fitting was ofcourse the usual 200 bucks. The low and high beam both are H1. I got crystal vision for low beam and 100W Rally Philips for high

Here is what it looks like. Sorry for the dirty car

I have downgraded a couple of times as mentioned by you and had no issues.

Hi,

Just had a quick chat with one of the Philips guys here in S. India. The Indian launch for these +80% bulbls will be in 1 or 2 months time. They are currently working out the import duties involved and consequently, the MRP in India.

Looks like it's best to buy from a good UK site for the time being.

Folks,
I want to upgrade to 100/90W Philips bulbs for my SX4. Can you folks suggest me best place in Bangalore where I can get it done. If you personally know someone, it is very helpful.

Hi,

Pls let me know, if you were able to get more information on this one? Did you also check with GM guys, if they have any specific recommendations on this?

now why would you want to smoke those lights?

I had Hallonix 90/100 yellow light bulb in my Indica, recently while changing the headlights, shop guy offered me to try Hallonix 90/100 while light bulb.

My initial experience is very bad.... I have tried to adjust the beam settings but still no where near 90/100 yellow light.

Though the visibility is good, but reach of light is very less..... No way for highway drive

Best place would be your MUL dealer. These 100/90W bulbs are known to have several duplicates in the market.

Dealer installation, although its slightly more expensive, you will not run into warranty issues. If the bulbs conks out prematurely, you can always go back to them. But make sure to ask for the specific brand.
