Dashboard has become sticky..

Hello,

Last week i cleaned the car interior and applied dashboard polish and now i find the dashboard has become sticky. Some ppl say it is because of the combined effect of A/C and perfume or is it bcz of the dashboard polish.

I need to remove the stickiness on the dashboard. Please suggest

Thanks

sathya the easiest way I can think of is to use sponge soaked in some shampoo water and wipe the dashboard clean. Use a dry cloth later on and wipe the dashboard dry.

Sathya, is it a Tata Indica/Indigo by any chance? I heard similar issues with these two.

While googling found following link. If nothing helps you may give it a shot.

re: Dashboard has become sticky..

Try a couple of baby wipes or face wipes which have rubbing alcohol as an ingredient - take all the sticy gummmy residue, rinse with a damp cloth, dry it off and make sure that it's restored to a dull matt finish.
Aply a fresh coat of dashboard shine to top it off...

Re: Dashboard has become sticky..

It may be the brand of dashboard polish that was applied. I too once had got cheated with a fake armor all protectant which i applied & it was like shoe polish mixed with thinner. Had to struggle to get it removed, it was staining my clothes too when i had applied it on the door pads. Please check the source/place where you got this stuff from, i had to to use detergent mixed with water to remove the coating finally.

Sticky Getz dashboard

Hi,

The dashboard of my Getz has gotten very very sticky and when i went to the service station they said it happens sometimes due to the harsh heat and that there is no solution for it. I don't know if it makes sense.. even the portions under the audio system which are not so exposed to sunlight are really sticky.

Any idea of how I can get rid of this stickiness? Will an interior car detailing job solve the problem.

I live in Mumbai. Any recommendation of where I could go / who could come to my place and get the job done?

I read about Master Polishers on one of the other threads

Re: Sticky Getz dashboard

Welcome to Team-BHP!

Regarding the sticky dash, can you post a pic

+ try going at it with car wash shampoo+ water soln. in a spray bottle and an old toothbrush and try it on a sticky area in a inconspicuous spot first to see if its working or not. (Agitate and wipe off with a cotton cloth)

by any chance, have you used 'armor all' on it?

Re: Sticky Getz dashboard

how old is your Getz? i've got a December 2006 Getz and it hasn't got any problems on its dashboard or any other part of the interior trim. the harsh heat explanations seesm really stupid, unless of course you parked your car under portion of the sky where there is no ozone!

Re: Sticky Getz dashboard

A pic will definitely help.
One query: Have you been using any solutions to clean the dashboard? Or is it untouched other than occasional wipes with dry clothes.

Also is the stickiness seen even in the area unexposed to sun? If thats the case have you been using some fancy air freshener?

Re: Sticky Getz dashboard

It cannot be just because of the sun. Did you use some cleaning agent in the past, like dashboard polish. It could be that due to the heat, it is kind of melting and causing the sticky feeling. Otherwise a dashboard cannot develop this. Use some cleaning agent or soap water and that should resolve the issue. Then make sure to dry it properly

Re: Sticky Getz dashboard

It seems like the Getz dashboard is not welcome to cleaning agents.

Best bet. Call all car detailers. Show them the issue. Tell them only if they solve the issue, you pay them else nothing.

Re: Sticky Getz dashboard

I have the same issue on my Indigo. In my case, it was never due to sun exposure but due to lack of use since the car was under wraps for months together. TASS recommended dismantling the whole dash and painting (costs ~5-6K).

Subscribed to see if there is any easy way out.

Re: Sticky Getz dashboard

The Getz did have a soft touch dashboard which could be sticky at times. I had the same problem in some areas in my Getz. I dont think you can do anything about it. In the Getz Prime they changed the material on the dash to normal hard plastics.
