At last. Neat, Karan.

Yes, it is...

Although it's a 2-wheel dyno (what happens to the EVO's, GTO's Impreza's, etc....?), it should go a long way in putting some famed claims to rest..

Wonder if Supras could be dyno'ed on this one...I'm presuming this 2 wheel dyno's caliberation would be restricted...

But then again, any dyno is only as good as it's governing software...

Well said.

Karan, so is the dyno setup with all the zillion parameters it comes with and the calibrations? What were the difficulties involved in setting up the dyno? How about some figures of stock Indian cars to start off with? That would give us a true indication of company claimed figures.

Nitrous, it is a two wheeled dyno. Since only two wheels are on the rollers while the other two aren't.

Merve, all the manufacturing companies have dyno's. Both rolling and engine dyno's. Though none of the showrooms have one. Nor are these available for the public.

Mostly company specified figures are the figures at the engine driveshaft, rather than at the wheels. So there will always be a difference. Even calculating the figures after accounting for the axle ratio and the gear ratio would not take into account the frictional loading. Anyway it will be nice to check the at-the-wheel figures of comparable cars for comparison.

No workshop will have a dyno, but you can bet your behind every factory floor will have a dozen engine dynos, with airconditioned and ventilated chambers.

Factory floors wont have engine dynos , only R&D does.

Actually, ALL manufacturers quote SAE HP/Kw at crank. Now, Pferdestarke is becoming the industry standard, just because it bumps up the numbers. Gah. 10 watts.

Technically, WHP is about 12% off the crank, for FWD's. About 15-18 for RWD's & AWD's. VERY vague variations, but still; pointless here, as the caliberation at dyno considers parameters such as slippage, roller inertia, blah blah...

Maybe I'm going bonkers. Ignorance is bliss.

Kudos to Karan for putting his money where his mouth is. I'd like to see some of the famed tuners do the same. Ah, Rome wasn't built in a day, eh...

Congrats on the dyno Karan, could we have figures of few of the cars that have been tested on it already...

I'm reliably informed that some of India's top manufacturers test engines from each batch/production period to ensure compliance with their stated outputs. Whether that would be the work of R&D, or would occur on the factory floor, I wasn't informed.

No doubts about that, this indeed is a very positive move. We can have the before and after readings to see what the Gizmos are doing and where.

However point I was trying to make was that it is futile to compare the readings of stock cars with that claimed by manufacturers, they will never match!
