@Randhawa, i am also looking for a fridge which I can keep in the centre of the back seat of my Jeep compass. Just wanted to check if it blows out hot air or gets heated. Is it safe to keep it on a leather seat for long trips of 16-18 hours?

Can it be used as a centre handrest for passengers sitting behind?

Are you happy with it till now??

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't get hot but it does blow warm air from the cooling fan inside. Yes you can keep it on leather seat but just keep the vents of the fridge clear of any obstruction.

You can use it as a arm rest that is you have only two people sitting in the middle row although not sure about your seats dimension as the fridge is 22inch long so your seat could be shorter.

I have been using it almost 24/7 for last 5 months, its either in my room or in my Fortuner working like a charm. Totally worth it for the price I bought.

Re: Car Fridge

FYI- for those using Tropicool 15L fridge. Using the fridge for the last two years and changing the settings manually but never realised I could have used IOS app from Alpicool (Tropicool doesn't have an app for IOS).

As this fridge is a generic Chinese version so many companies are selling it under their name. Tropicool never bothered to have an app for IOS but Alpicool did and it works like a charm. Try it if you are like me who never thought of it.

Re: Car Fridge

Hi guys,

I had to venture on 2 road trip last month during the peak of summer heat. Even with the AC, the intense heat, bright sunlight (no sunfilms or IR glasses) and new highways completely devoid of greenery/tree shade, got to me and everyone in the car. And in one of those trips we got caught behind Andhra CMs election rally on a highway, we were stuck in mid afternoon for over 4 hours.... Some cold beverages would have certainly helped calm out mind and body.

I had been reading about these coolers, fridges for sometime now, but couldn't convince myself to shell out the money so far.... Not much information available around thermoelectric coolers as well, they are neither here nor there kinda stuff. But somehow fit my needs perfectly, finally picked up Black n Decker 24L thermoelectric cooler for Rs. 7100.

Some pros and cons from my usage perspective;

1. Lightweight and size (Fridge is usually larger, Ice box internal storage volume is 20-30% of rated capacity, the rest is taken up by ice)

2. Easy to use and Maintain

3. Most efficient for precooled/refrigerated Cool drinks, Yogurt/Buttermilk, Insulin, Chocolates, Fruits etc

4. Lower price compared to compressor fridge/freezer

5. No hassle of managing ice, handling the melting water, dead weight and the mess that comes with ice box

Cons;
1. Can’t reach low temperatures of a fridge, can reach 15-20 C below ambient (depending on ambient temp, lower the better)

2. Performance is constrained above 30 C ambient, best used within air conditioned Car/Room

3. Ability to hold cold temperatures without power is not great

Got it delivered today and had to test it out myself. Here is what I discovered and measured today.

Ambient was around 27c, it went down to 11c in about 2.5hrs and once powered down, it came to near room temperature in about 2 hours.

I hope it will help you make an informed decision for your needs.

Re: Car Fridge

I always had my eyes set on the Waeco/Dometic CFX range of car fridges, however I just couldn't find a reliable retailer/importer in my search over the last several years. Additionally, the cost side of things was so unreasonable that it was never a good value proposition.

More recently I saw this product from Phillips and it comes for a reasonable price, its also compressor based and not thermoelectric. Was wondering if anyone here has had a chance to use this product and could provide any feedback.

Better to go with Tropicool 15L which is available on Croma @22k and Amazon right now for around 18k under different brand name.

With Philips it does not come with AC adaptor and has no bluetooth to connect with your phone for settings. It's also expensive at 28k.

Is anyone still selling Waeco fridges in India?
