Even switching to LED's will make no sense as the reflectors are not designed to manage LED lighting.
Another option is to replace the h3 bulbs with extreme vision or racing vision or night breakers etc. Not sure if there would be a significant improvement. Any suggestions?

I think the casing is sealed. You will have to open it and check if the bulbs fit etc. And then put the casing back and seal it so that water doesn't go in again.

Why dont you just buy good LED set up from AliExpress?

Thank you for the insight. I already have the setup on my car and am looking for options to improve the lighting.

Friends, any suggestions, if at all this can be done? If so, has anyone tried it and what were the results?

I have finally sourced the Wolo RC100 remote switches and mounted them behind my steering wheel. I feel so comfortable now in flicking the 400watt light bar on and off for the benefit of oncoming traffic.

Previously, I had to remove one hand from the steering wheel to toggle the switch mounted on where the music system is mounted in other cars. The additional fatigue by this action became apparent when my drives got longer. I felt that I end up beaming on oncoming traffic due to being too tired to bring my hands to flick the toggle switch.

This problem has been completely resolved by this switch which has enabled me to toggle the lights more frequently with no considerable physical effort other than extending the finger to touch the button.

This switch uses one 23A size battery. Each of the switches has to paired by powering up the respective relay up via car battery and pressing a program button on the round switch until the blue light that rings the button when activated blinks thrice.

The toggle switch in the relay can be set to momentary mode(suitable for horns) or on/off mode(for lights).

I have connected one switch to the light bar(4 nos 100w Hella 500ffs ) and another one to extra horns(Europas+Supertones) thus freeing up the horn pad to sound the polite OEM horns.

The Velcro mounts, relays, wiring, fuses(1A, 5A, 10A, 30A), zip ties and connectors are all added in the package. The Velcro mounts give the flexibility to reposition the switches whenever required.

Re: The Hella Experience - 500 FF

Good setup. does operating the buttons foul with the indicator / wiper stalks?

I have a pair of 700FFs on my XUV and i opted for a 3 way switch.
Position 0 - OFF (only stock headlights work, Low / high beam)
1 - 700FF always on (irrespective of stock Low or high beam)
2 - 700FFs connected to high beam of XUV (comes alive only with stock High beam. Can be used for flashing too)

only down side of this is that the stock headlight switch (stalk) need to be ON for the 700s to work.

I haven't faced the issue on long drives. There is a chance of the switch fouling the stalk when attempting to use the stalk when taking a turn which will ponly be possible in parking-lot-speeds. I am confident that it will not be a big issue and if it really needs to be changed I can buy a piece of Velcro and change it in to another position easily.

Your setup is great too. I feel that you wouldn't require flashing the aux light to make an additional impact on road. If I am wrong the you need to get a small rocker switch for the 700ffs to by pass the ignition key

My light bars are detachable and are left in the boot whenever I don't need them. I have two spanners in my car and I fit them only during the long drives in the nights on routes including highways. By God's grace, this has proved to be the ultimate anti-theft and anti-vandalism measure too.

I got my initial setup parallel wired to be in warranty .I had one minor warranty claim after installing these lights too.

After the warranty expired, I asked the wiring guy to change it to a similar setup as yours when I was installing extra horns but it somehow got ignored. I too was less insistent because of the fact that I will have to leave things in the installation guys' hands. I like to know the work being done because I feel that it will be good to know that when something comes up in future.

To be honest, this extra lights and flashing is my last line of defense (or offense...don't know) to some of the inconsiderate, unruly drivers who doesn't give a damn to the oncoming traffic. With these, i would be able to see how far to the left i can go. For all normal driving purposes i am very happy with the high beams of XUV.

If your are flashing the aux lights in the night then your setup offers no hindrance since the the car's headlights will already be switched on.

In night, aux lights are a must have as you need to be strong to be taken seriously and playing polite with a couple of 60 watt bulbs will go unheeded.

This necessity turns vital on the dualcarriageways where we will be left seeing thousands of unnecessary lumens from tiny autos to Volvos and we will need hundreds of watts just to see the left edge of the road immediately ahead of the car.

Re: The Hella Experience - 500 FF

Can some hella experts help me here?

Wanted to install aux lights to my 1st gen Ford Figo. After reading many threads and reviews, decided on Hella Rallye 500ff.

In mysore, most of the car accessory shops didnt had this. Finally, one shop confirmed on phone that they have it in stock.

When I went there, found that the sticker had Rallye mentioned. But on the box written as comet 500ff. I asked why. Shop owner caled the Hella company person and got the info that, in india they are packed as comet 500ff. Even the lights have just comet 500 written on them at back.

The shop guy was genuine in behavior. Didnt force me into purchase. I paid 5k for it. Just for piece of mind wanted to confirm if the narrative is correct. Attaching pics for reference. Couldn't install the lights dur to.rain. will update pics when done.

They were earlier referred to as Comet and then later the Rallye marketing came in along with the FF reflector perhaps for marketing needs. The 700FF also have a Rallye sticker on the box, so this is how it is marketed by Hella in India at least.

Wire this upto the high beam and add a switch so that it activates along with high beam only on highways. While the box provides all necessary hardware and instructions, electricians can be lazy, so watch out for it. You will need to spend some time during the night to align the stock headlamps and then align the driving lights to work with it.

Re: The Hella Experience - 500 FF

These Hella 500FF’s are perfectly useable and very practical. Not to mention the fact that they are extremely well priced. I bought them on Amazon so I guess there must have been some price benefit vis a vis the regular stores.
Ive mounted them on my Gypsy. And they literally cut through the morning mist in the Bangalore’s winter time early morning!

Re: The Hella Experience - 500 FF

Thank you @kosfactor for clearing my doubt. Yes, Im getting the installation done from a trusted electrician. My BIL knows him for 20+ years and connected to him. And my usage will be limited to highway only. Will try to install it at fog light level to avoid blinding oncoming vehicles.

@shankar balan,
Im a big fan of your yeti thread. Was planning to sell figo and get a used yeti. But couldn't find good ones. And then corona happened. Rest is history . All plans put on hold for now.
Between, your gypsy looks cool .

Re: The Hella Experience - 500 FF

Update on install. Got hella 500ff installed.
Cost breakup:
1. Lights - 5000
2. Clamp - 500
3. Wiring - 500 ( he asked 400, i gave 500 based on the qualityof work done )
4. Running behind tinkers and clamp guys - priceless

Had hard time getting tinkers to make the clamp. I went with simple design mentioned in previous posts by @lakshmanrk. No removing front bumper. No welding to chasis etc. Just make two 15 cm steel plates drill holes on both ends and fix them to already available holes under bumper. Even with pictures for reference, most were busy with lunch time, namaz time ( no offence to any one, but couple workshops told no one is there to attend, one guy quoted 1600 rs for making the clamps. Finally found one workshop and got it done.

Fitting and wiring took more than an hour. He used insulator for all wiring. Later did some trial runs for focusing. Fuse and relay are next to washer fluid reservoir. It doesnt lightup the entire road but compliments the weak headlights by extending the throw upto some extent and not blinding oncoming traffic. Works for my driving needs.

Few pictures of same,

Great that you are enjoying your setup. Just a thought, placing the Fuse and relay right next to the washer filler increases chances of water ingress and short circuit during refills. You might want to move them away.
Also, any particular reason you decided to fit the lights so low? They will be prone to damage.
