Re: Engine swap/Performance mods in Lancer

P.S. : Is it ok to give out VIN number if asked by a parts supplier?

Your help is extremely appreciated. Thank you.
I had a talk with him and he wasn't very enthusiastic about the DOHC MIVEC head swap for the 4G15 because he said, you would require a standalone to run the setup properly and gains are really not worth all these efforts.
Instead he recommended a normal DOHC swap along with some different/aggressive cams to make a nice peppy NA build.

Thats what he feels.

This guy owns a tuning shop by the name LLT Racing in Australia and specializes in Mitsubishi cars.
He is the one who sent me my Head.

Great thread Amey and kudos to your R&D and getting things done meticulously stage wise is simply an eye opener and especially for noob's like me.
I will try to flag you sometime in Pune and after more than year's hibernation your thread had brought me back to life on the forum. Cheers and as already hinted by many here this thread is like the bible of all lancer mods.

The recommended ring end gap for top ring was 16 thou and for the 2nd ring was 17.5 thou.
We have kept around 10-12 for top and 13-14 for the 2nd one.
p2w clearance is around 3 thou. permissible according to Wiseco is 3.5 thou.

Amey, each time I visit your thread & see the passion going into the build with HUGE doses of research, I am truly amazed with your perseverance and passion.

The way you are going into details may be a bible for many a people, who aspire to own or build fast/er cars but do not know where to begin.

Kudos to you, hope the net result amply compensates your effort.

Cheerio

Re: Engine swap/Performance mods in Lancer

its good to know you were in touch with the company for details like ring gap and p2w clearance, any reason you are running tighter gaps than recommended? are you not looking to push that much boost that would require such clearances or reason's like excessive blow by? hone pattern used? anyways all the luck with this build, your sure going to have a quick car once its all done, please pay as much or more attention to the tune as you did while assembling the engine, cheers, happy revving..!

I wont be running high boost on a regular basis.Maybe around 8-10 psi max. One of the reason for keeping conservative clearances is that I dont want excessive oil consumption.
Bottom end is ready and so is the Head. Now waiting for a few things like Tappet cover, idler pulley, timing belt, injectors, adjustable cam gears, coil packs, ignition leads to arrive in my hand.Once these are here, Will plonk the engine in.
The stuff is already in Mumbai so hopefully in a week or so, we should be able to bring her to life again.

Re: Engine swap/Performance mods in Lancer

A few minor updates :

Ok so my engine is almost ready with the new Head installed along with forged internals.
The final engine build is nearing completion.
While we wait for a few minor parts like oil seals, we get the tappet cover painted, didnt want that dirty, used look of bare aluminum tappet cover. We also got the flywheel faced since we had pulled out the engine anyway.

A few parts also arrived, new coil packs, ignition leads, idler pulley,OE 275cc injectors. This should make my ECU happy now.

Re: Engine swap/Performance mods in Lancer

Finally !!!!!!!

Engine swap/Performance mods in Lancer-img_20110505_135146.jpg

Got the last but most awaited parcel. Received Exedy HD Clutch, Jasma Adjustable Cam Gears, Cam oil seals, rocker cover seal,Gates Timing belt. Now I can get on with finishing the final engine build and plonk back the engine.

If things go as planned, in a weeks time, the car should be back in action with a DOHC Head swap and Forged Internals done

Will keep this thread updated.

Re: Engine swap/Performance mods in Lancer

Truly amazing work Amey. I have a question for you thou. If your planning to turbocharge the motor does it matter that much whether its a dohc or sohc regarding the engine breathing part as long as you have 16 valves, or is it that you need some flexibility in the cam timings. Sorry if the question has been asked before.

Re: Engine swap/Performance mods in Lancer

Drool pics man, very nice built. So, time for a turbo ? what boost you plan to run this thing on.

Forged internals can take 14 PSI and above. I mean I was surprised to read RPWs details of 4G94, where it said that the stock internals can also take up to 14 PSI of boost, ofcourse depending upon intercooler and tuning and an upgraded gasket.
