Opel sail 1.6 mods

my wife's opel sail funnily drinks more than my RS, accelerates slower, and is lighter.

anyone who can give me a reliable and able person in the worli, santa cruz area that can look at the car and shed light on this.

fortunately the reason i bought this car still holds - ride quality. in the size class (indicar had poor fit and finish and the palio had poor ASS besides they had just discontinued their 1.6GTX).

Hey Navin,

Is the car a 1.6 or 1.4. Also what is the present FE that you are getting. I'll take a look into the car if you bring it to the office tomorrow and let you know if its behaving normally. We can take things from there.

it is the 1.6 (read title of post) :-) and i get an FE of 6.5-7.

My RS gives 9-10kmpl. My 9 year old Astra gives 7. Also the Sail feel mighty sluggish below 3000rpm and I hate pushing it harder as it feels like it dont like to be revved harder (too noisy).

National Garage gave it a clean chit.

thanks for the offer viper, but I dont use it other than saturdays as my wife uses it and hates anything bigger.

i cant understand how a 1.6L engine pushing a 1050kg car eats 30% more gas than a 1.8Turbo pushing a 1,400kg car.

That's German Engineering for you

On the more serious note, I have heard that the Opel engine used in Sail is pretty dated.

The engine is Australian actually .

And navin, don't expect anything better really. The lousy FE was one of the main reasons the Corsa never sold very well.

However, if you still want to get it checked out, take it to Ashdeen (Speed Demon Tuning) at Lower Parel. I would recommend you take your Astra to him as well if you ever get any work done. He does some great work on the suspension. I did mine just before I sold it (don't ask!) and it really was terrific!

Speed Demon seems like my best choice. Arent the RS and Opel both of German origin? WHy is the heavier car with a turbo engine more efficient than the lighter car with the smaller engine?

thanks dude. i did not kow that. i figured given same engine design more power came from moving more air and that came from burning more fuel.

Sail wont respond well to a turbo, its usually the Lancers, Balenos and OHCs which give 100% response to turboing!

Well it may increase FE a bit but turboing is not cheap. You could plonk a 1.5 Variable Valve timed Engine with Lift Electronic Control at that price. Or you rather convert your car to LPG!
