Car runs over a stone- Dent below the door, Help needed

Hi guys,

I was driving around a round about and i was pretty close to the roundabout's boundary(thanks to my concentration on the radio), and all of a sudden i hear "thud!" and "what the"(from the passengers) and realized my car ran over a a pretty strong and a big cement block. which was kept on the road!! (careless roundabout constructors)

Results:
Many scratches on the wheel cap
and
A dent and a few deep scratches below the driver's door.

Please check the pictures and tell me what i can do about it? Is it gonna cost me a bomb? insurance?

Had the exact same thing happen on the fiesta.
I guess it can be lived with unless there is any problem opening and closing the door. We had to repair it on the fiesta as the door didn't open properly.

Akshay,

Looks like the running board is not damaged too much. If there is no damage to door, You can just live with it.

Bad. It hurts, when it this happens to a nicely kept car. But most of the cars in Bangalore now have this trademark dent.

Akshay, you are lucky! Yesterday night a stone came under my Santro. Stone was covered with some plastic kinda thing (which probably flied from some garbage throw due to strong wind) and i did not see it; thanks to a oncoming highbeam vehicle. Advaith towed the car for repairs 15 minutes back now. Gear box case likely has a crack and all gearbox-oil is drained out overnight.

akshay just let it be. shouldnt be a problem but get it repaired before the rains. it will start rusting and will eat up the running board. *** will charge you for one piece only. around 3000 i guess.

I too would suggest that if you can live with it, just touch it up with a small paint job so that rust does not eat into the running board. It can even be a DIY job as I've done on my Esteem when it got scratched on the rear door. Else, removing the dent and repainting the entire running board panel should cost you around 2K if the colour is non metallic, little extra for metallic. Car looks like a Santro, am I right ? No point in claiming insurance for this one as you will lose your NCB

I have something very similar in my Santro. This happened a couple of years ago. I am just living with it. Repairs are troublesome, and that too in an area prone to wetting and rust. It is safer (and cheaper) to just leave it as such.

I am just like you, cant live with a dent types. When I use to drive the WagonR which is currently being driven by my sis (and is full of dents everywhere now), I had damaged the left front running board. There was a difficulty in operating the door too. Got it dented from MASS and they charged Rs. 2K for it. They have a magnetic puller to pull out such pieces otherwise its very difficult to dent.

My opinion echoes most other opinons here. Its best you do not get it repaired. You can get the area touched up with paint so that only the dent is visible and scratches are removed.

Its a very minor thing.Need not worry about rust, only the paint had peeled off,but the primer is intact.
They may charge anything below 3K for completely removing.Just give it for touch-up,it will be covered.its freee
Many may not recognise, since it is under the running board.

hard to believe that you are from bangalore!! if i fix every dent as and when i get it, my car will be in the body shop most of the time

live with it, and you will be better prepared to deal with future dents :-)

jokes apart, hope u get it fixed to ur satisfaction soon. ask the workshop not to "correct" more area than necessary.

Come to think of it, a repair with body filler and paint touch up with no attempt to knock the bent sheet metal (that may require cutting!) out may not be such a bad idea. However, we may detest it, dings and the like are a permanent issue in our urban environment.
