As rudra correctly mentioned, we should know what we are talking about.
Plain assumptions based on a car's vintage or looks is not becoming of a car lover.
We had an old model M800 for 20 years - imagine ?
Bought spanking new (choc brown color) in 1985 for 60K and with us till 2005 when we sold it for 40K to someone who really appreciated the car. I still regret selling the car. More so after reading the respect it commands here. It had done all of 52000kms and had its original paint on with no noticeable dents / scratches. After a weekly wash and wax polish (yes, I religiously polished it till the end) and it would shine like a new car.
The buyer was in fact amazed how it managed to escape any dents in Chennai traffic.
We also had a 1999 M800 and believe me, the older one was far better. The steering was like power steering - in the new 800 it is kinda tough. Till the very end, it gave highway FE of around 23kms and no real issues whatsoever.

Man, I should not have sold it (sometimes you should think for yourself instead of listening to your wife). :-)

i know someone in my family who would like to sell it to you...its white in color and might need some minro brake work and denting and paiting...we ourselves had used the car for 10 years before passing it on to our relatives...the car is less run ( don't know the exact kms) and is a gem !!!

Hi Sankar,

Congrats on your prized catch , I too own a red one 85, with 44000 and was usedby an old couple only for going to nearby temple. The condition is excellant, will try to post the pics. However, my humble request (please dont get discouraged), please, please, please keep it original. U will be surely noticed on road for keeping it in original than modyfying it. In fact, my car had a post it when parked that a person is interested in this car and would pay me whatever i ask for keeping it original with his contact info. Please keep it original. I hope all the Bhpians would second my thoughts. If u really need to modify try a later M800. Please keep it original, a car like this is a rare find.

Sankar, did you make it to Bangalore?!

Binz, you drove Raj's car? It's not the Type 1, but the Type 2, I think.

Sparco, I'd love to waste my time insulting you, but I think I'll refrain...
