You can look at the KIT and tell if its genuine or not.

Phillips,Osram,Hella are a few names for genuine kits.

Compare the chinese to the phillips hid's the connector's the quality of the ballasts the wire's all are different. In the most of the chinese kit you can interchange the bulb's of any XYZ brand. But you cannot connect phillips Hid bulbs to any chinese ballasts,They have a different connector.

If you are looking for genuine stuff,Simpley Buy with bill and live peacefully.

Dear Greenhorn,

1. Yes & no. There are & there were. But Philips certainly does not sell HID kits in every country including UK & US. Bosch I am not sure if they sell at all! They may be OEM suppliers but retailing? Am doubt-fool

2. No. The difference between $500 and $100 (approx. lowest price range in the US) is quite a lot without much ado about superior quality of the "original" HID kits of reputed manufacturers like Philips. Most of the HID kits in the market are anyway manufactured in China or the South East Asia. Therefore, please use your discretion to buy a Chinese kit without one of those "Philips" or "Bosch" labels. Wondering why they have left out "Osram", "Hella", etc

This price was quoted by a Philips wholesaler. A couple of my friends have even bought it and it does not look fake in any way. I know its hard to believe but that's the price at which the dealer gets it. And the price is for a H4 bulb, with the moving reflector!

And yes, it comes with a bill.

When I got HID kit for my bike in 2007,I was given a Ballast(it had no brand name and was completely blank-when I asked about it,he said he can stick any label,be it Phillips,Hella or whatever.
I was skeptical and had a budget of around 5K to purchase the kit(Read single Ballast and Bulb). When I asked about the price i was quoted 3K(i was happy since it was almost 60% of the budget i had originally thought off).it was without warranty, and its still working fine till date.
except for 3 blown relays(due to pressure washing).

Original kits are few and far between and cost difference between branded and chinese kits is quite a lot,so people prefer these as spares are freely available and kits also are reliable,I have not come across any failed ballast as of now, wiring and relay issues cant be really called as points of failure.

Almost everything is Made in China these days. The place of manufacture is no longer a factor in distinguishing quality. I exchanged e-mails with a few people and I'm now convinced that other than Hella, not a single manufacturer of OEM HID equipment sells their stuff in the open market.

Any Philips kit you buy, be it from a Philips distro or not, is not authorized by Philips. You may get lucky and get it from someone who is reselling stuff that is supposed to be sent to OEMs since it is this is India.

No, it is not the same. it looks more like the Bosch ballast pic that you have put up. And as Noidaboy said, you can look at the kit and say if it is original or not. And the quality of Philips HID, make other Chinese stuff look like low quality toys!

Got Philips (Made in Germany) yesterday, H4 Bi Xenon(motorized bulbs) 6000K.
Cost appx 3.5K in saudi!
No idea if they are genuine or fake, ok with me as far as they serve the purpose, packing quality is amazing.

This thread needs some clearing up.

These are the original Philips HID kits available in SE Asian market and elsewhere. In India you only get 6000k.

Philips Lighting Malaysia - Xenon HID Standard

Philips Lighting Malaysia - Ultinon Flash Clear

Philips Lighting Malaysia - Ultinon Flash Cool

Philips Lighting Malaysia - Ultinon Flash White

Philips Lighting Malaysia - Ultinon Flash Star

Philips kits bought from SE Asia comes with a 14 digit number which can be euthenticated on-line to check the kit you've bought. But not all markets have this serial code yet. You can do that here by visitng the following link.

Philips Automotive Lighting
