Actually, your car glass is blocking UV already. That is why photochromic glasses do not work.

Other numbers I don't know about. But whatever the claims, I do know that my previous car was more comfortable with film (CR70) than this one is without.

I don't think all car windshields/ glasses do. Do you have data that shows otherwise?

From a study done in the US.

The front windshield of your car blocks most of the UVA and UVB radiation coming from the sun, but the driver’s side window may not be pulling its weight. A recent study found that while the front windshield blocks 94 percent of UVA rays, the driver’s side window only blocked 71 percent.

Also from what I know Kia Carens misses out on UV cut glass, unlike the Seltos.

No I don't. I only know about the photochromic thing from my wife's daily experience. This, of course, is in the one car. Added to that it is what I have always heard, but sure, it could be wrong.

Correction always welcome

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

Anyone heard about ceramic film for windscreen? Apparently it's been around in the US for a while now. High VLT and high total solar rejection..
https://www.thedetailingmafia.com/glass-films
These guys have something called "nano ceramic".
Anyone with some more knowledge on this?

3Ms CR series and if I'm not mistaken Garwares Ice cool Shield are ceramic based only so it's not a new offering

Glare reduction - 15%

Rs. 34.5k for 3M CR70 (I forget it now, but I don't think there is one). CR70 anti-glare on front and back, regular CR70 on the sides is what the manager at 3M Car Care told me.
Specs for 3M
UV - 99.9%
IR - 97%
TSER - 50%
Glare reduction - 23%

So Solar Gard is around 35% cheaper for me.
Thanks.This is very useful!!
Which one did you finally go with? And hows the experience and feedback so far, esp on heat rejection and light transmission?
And which vendor in kochi did it for you?

Please check this conversation too, specifically post #18

Went with SolarGard Ultra Performance Plus 80, because of these reasons.

1) Price, cheaper than 3M or V-Kool by a lot, but similar specs
2) It's a touch lighter shade of green than 3M CR70
3) 77% visibility (I think they rounded it to 80 and hence the name UP80)

https://www.solargard.com/me-en/prod...a-performance/

Pros
  • Heat rejection is good and overall I think it's a decent buy. Carens has massive glass area and none of them are UV cut so this was a must.
  • It's barely noticeable and looks very OEM from outside.
  • Reduces glare at night from oncoming traffic (see con)
2 cons I've noticed.
  • I feel like it increased reflection inside from dashboard and door panels etc.
  • Visibility at night has obviously reduced by 23% and the LED headlights don't seem as effective.

Got it from Cartec Specialities -

3M Coimbatore quoted only 24,900 for CR70 for my 7 seater. 34.5 is definitely over priced.

CR70 for all 4 sides? Or was it RE70 on the side windows?

CR70 for all glasses including the windshield. I thought this price was high, so I didn't fix it. I've only used Garware in all my previous cars, so I might go for it this time as well. I'm just trying to find the right people, as there are many fake ones in the market.

LOL, damn and I thought 23k for SolarGard was reasonable. I would've definitely gone with 3M at under 25k. I had got quotes from 2 separate 3M car care stores and they were exactly the same around 34k.

Lesson learned, the sunfilm market clearly has prices and quality all over. Members please shop around before you make final decision.

I suggest you remove it before the inevitable happens, you may even be denied insurance coverage during such unfortunate events.

It's astounding that the same brand's outlets are quoting their own prices. A difference of 1,000 or 2,000 bucks is understandable, but 10,000? Unacceptable! Either the one quoting the higher price is fleecing us, or the one quoting the lower price is cheating us, probably by fixing a duplicate film.

Wow! 3M in Bangalore quoted me about 34k (if I recall correctly) for our Hector Plus. Yours seems ridiculously lower than par. Wonder why..
