Hi, is there a special process to paint alloys black? How were yours done? I am thinking of doing the same on the SX4, but worry about the paint chipping off in small pieces.

Re: The Zen Modifications Thread

Ideally, your stock rims should be sandpapered properly and then painted so the paint sticks on. I initially thought of using the spray cans, but finally went to a nearby painter. He sandpapered them lightly and then sprayed about 3 layers. I hardly kept those rims for 4 months before i went in for alloys, so can't say much about peeling off issues.

Honestly, that's murder! Not to mention the strong reflection the dash gives in the windscreen.

Sorry to say, not a best choice. But looks are always subjective.

personally i think i like them, but it all depends on the overall look of the car. so if you can post the pics of your car exterior, it will be great.

On the other hand, I think i spotted you on the Porur road last week, morning around 8am.

Re: The Zen Modifications Thread

Returning after a 360 KM drive got FFE from Automech Mumbai, super sweet sound over overall rev-band. This is before I embark upon at 2k trip back home tomorrow

Damages: 8k
Sounds: Sweet
Experience: Priceless!!

BTW: while coming back Khopoli toll-clerk mentioned take the khopoli NH-4 exit since there's been a nasty tanker-fire just before Lonavala. This brought about a bit of chance to test car's new found freedom. we took a 7-8 km detour and joined the expressway near Lonavala. Though we reached by 10 PM as against our earlier plan of 7.30, but with a spirited engine the drive was worth it.

Re: The Zen Modifications Thread

Thought conformable adhesive backed Vinyl would have been the better choice for coding interiors, but not sure who markets these in India. Any inputs?

Alloys for stock tyres

My 00' model zen runs on stock tyres 145/70 R 13 - bridgestone. Its been hardly 12k km run after i changed the tyres.

Meanwhile have come across the following config alloys/tyres :

Alloys -Plati 13"
Tyres - michelin 155/65 R13 XM1
Size : 13"
Width : 5.5"
Make : Plati
Model : PY518
PCD : 100

Do you guys know if the alloys fit perfectely on stock zen tyres - 145/ 70 R 13 without any modification and alterations to existing default set up. have anyone tried this sucessfully or riding the same profile on alloys config mentioned above.

Does this have a reduction in mileage, efficiency/power of vehicle or any adverse effects on vehicle ride, suspension and comfort etc. Please advise the pro's and con's of this change to alloys.

I do not prefer a change of tyres now, since it would not be worth selling the relatively new tyres and going for brand new one.

The zen's PCD is 114.3 and I would recommend you stick to that than putting on 100 PCD and facing issues.

Rj, so you mean to say that in case I want to put these alloys, will have to change the PCD to 100. How hard and expensive is it any idea.

Btw, can u just brief what is PCD and how do you measure it. Is it advisable to change the PCD for alloys fitment.
