You may want to clean the suction cup and the windscreen thoroughly, possibly with isopropyl alocohol. A little bit of vaseline on suction cup helps as well.

re: Cellphone Holder

I need suggestions on 2 things :
1. Super strong double sided adhesive that can hold a mobile holder on dashboard.
2. Glass base plate to be glued on the dashboad for a suction mount

I have 2 mobile phone holders in my car dashboard, I need both. The dashboard surface somehow not able to hold mobile phone weight with the regular double sided tape. Also, not smooth enough for a suction mount. Please suggest both the products (Link to Amazon or flipkart etc.) for long term usage.

I haven't tried for the dashboard, but I suspect that this double-sided tape would do it, and should also be removable. I guess there must be one or more factories in China that churn out this stuff, which sells under multiple brand names. I have stuck a few things to walls using it. Only one fell off so far, and it was a heavy electrical multi-socket box: it had small projections on the base, so there was not good surface-to-surface contact.

I also have some Gorilla Heavy Duty mounting tape. This is intended to be permanent. So far I've only used it once, to fix a lamp holder inside a lamp, and it seems to do its job. Comes with a warning that trying to remove it is likely to cause damage! This is probably not want you want for your dashboard! Also, searching Amazon for Gorilla products, many of them seem to come at Amazon-import-silly prices. Look here: This carries the warning about being permanent. And you probably don't want to pay this sort of price: I know I don't!

re: Cellphone Holder

Coming back home from a long trip.

Was using google maps constantly and simultaneously monitoring engine parameters with a bluetooth OBD adapter on the same phone. Torque pro was open and the google maps app was open in p-i-p mode. Phone holder being stuck on the glass, the phone was in constant sunlight. Eventually my samsung s20FE started killing apps because it was overheating.

You might want to consider mounting it close to/in the way of the AC vents in your cars or away from sunlight. As I see it, overheating is unavoidable in hot climates with constant charging + battery heavy GPS usage on long trips.

It supports landscape and portrait mode and for google maps and I find that the app in landscape mode is brilliant while driving.

The phone holder is installed in the CD player slot and has clamps that you can tighten. The positive side is that once clamps are tightened it is quite firm. The only downside of having this phone holder installed is that it makes the ability to play CDs redundant.

Hi
How is your cd slot holder doing? I am looking for one and cannot find this model anywhere.

I tried the baseus one and returned it.
Find the spigen one too expensive for 1900 bucks

re: Cellphone Holder

Hi guys,

I know a lot of products have already been discussed on this thread but since many of the recommendations from earlier years are no longer available (likely upgraded or discontinued), I am asking for fresh recommendations.

I have a few questions:

1. Which type of mobile mounts among the three work best: Dashboard, Windshield or AC vent ? Holder or magnetic ones?

The main factors for me are:

I live in a generally very hot region (NCR) and may have to park the car in sun most of the times, so I need consider the possibility of it falling off the windshield/dashboard because of intense and continuous heat.

2. In case of Windshield/dashboard, which is the best place to install it? Keeping in mind visibility, practicality of handling as well as safety/distraction.

3. Which one do you recommend in budget (say upto 5-600). I will soon get an android installed so I don't want to spend much on it. One that doesn't fall off in sun/summer.

My main use will be GPS as I have to go to new places in city frequently for work.

Thanks a ton!

re: Cellphone Holder

I used to own Wagon R and currently own 2018 Elite i20 magna. Generally no mobile holder worked for me. May be because of the textured dash boards or the heat on the wind screen glass, almost all holders used to come off only in 2,3 days.
I had this mobile holder lying around at home
https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0722MPTX4
This did not really work when I bought it as the adhesive came out with in a day.
Recently I got some silicone double sided tape https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B08MX5LKTW and with it installed the mobile holder.
The tape works really well and due to the simple design, it is very small so doesn't obstruct view. It keeps the phone in place well. Only flaw is, it can hold phone only in landscape mode and there are no adjustment options.

I think the one I have is no longer available on amazon but can search for alligator mobile holder and there are products from other vendor.

re: Cellphone Holder

I have been using Zaap mobile phone holder for the past 3+ years. It's absolutely fabulous and worth the money.

Unfortunately looks like this product has been taken out of Amazon. If you get hold of Zaap then go for it.

Mount: I have been using this one from Amazon. There seems to be various copies of this style / design floating around - I think they are all more or less identical. This type has a cam arrangement which makes the suction cup very effective - as long as the underlying surface is flat and smooth. Even a slight curve in the dashboard will weaken the suction pressure, and a slight bump will dislodge it. Hence I have been mounting it to the windscreen - and the extendable arm is long enough to reach me.

Windshield or AC vent?
in my experience the AC vent ones work fine with lighter phones.

Quote:
Holder or magnetic ones?
I have been avoiding the magnetic ones simply because they will mess with the compass in the phone.

Quote:
falling off due to heat
On my previous car I found the opposite problem - the heat caused the dashboard and holder to "welded"(?) together after about 6 months of extreme daytime heat. The holder could not be removed without damaging the dash.

For the above reason, I prefer windshield mounting. There are rules (in the US) that limit how much of the view is obstructed. Unfortunately the optimal mounting location is highly dependent on vehicle as well as personal preference - I stongly recommend that you try it out.

I had a windshield-mounted cell phone holder for a few months. When driving facing the sun, the holder used to get hot. After some time, the heat would transfer to the mobile phone, eventually the phone would get switched off because of overheating.

Dashboard-mounted holder does not create this problem.

re: Cellphone Holder

Hi guys

I have been looking for a mobile phone holder for some time now. I have used the clamp ones as well as the magnetic ones. One problem that I constantly face is that the phone pops out in cases of sudden braking and has damaged the phone screens in my family two/three times now.

Could anyone suggest any holder that helped them tackle this problem?

If budget is not a problem, I'd suggest the iOttie phone holder-

https://www.amazon.in/iOttie-Dashboa...=1&ext_vrnc=hi

I have the touch 3 version for the past 6 years and I am more than happy with it. You can also find more affordable ones from other brands which imitate this design.

I Have been using this one from Amzon https://www.amazon.in/SKYVIK-TRUHOLD...%2C362&sr=8-15

I have stuck the Magnetic base to my HU's Bezel on the left side. Quite a strong Magnet that holds the phone firmly in place even during rough drives. My Phone has never fallen off the mount. I got it for Rs.650 and it now costs Rs.721/-
