VW Virtus 1.0 TSI AT | Stage 1 Remap & PedalBox Pro Review

It’s taken a while, but I’m excited to finally share my experience with the Virtus 1.0 TSI AT after installing a Stage 1+ TOT tune and the PedalBox Pro.

Things I didn't like on a Stock Map: Virtus 1.0 TSI AT

  1. Noticeable turbo lag in 1st gear when manoeuvring in the city, especially below 10 km/h, with slow upshifts to 2nd gear.
  2. An aggressive launch occurs right after a cold start when the brake is released.
  3. Downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear results in a jolt at low speeds.
  4. Poor fuel economy in city traffic and on highways.
  5. 3rd and 4th gears feel underpowered when throttling down, which is expected for a three-cylinder engine.

Driving Impressions After TOT Stage 1+ Remap with PedalBox Pro

  1. Maneuvering in 1st gear is now smoother, with quicker upshifts at low speeds.
  2. The aggressive launch after a cold start has been fully resolved.
  3. The car tends to stay in 2nd gear at speeds below 5 km/h, which significantly reduces the jolt when downshifting from 2nd to 1st.
  4. Fuel efficiency has improved by 1.5 to 2 km/l in moderate city traffic and highways.
  5. There’s a noticeable increase in power in 3rd and 4th gears post-3000 RPM, compared to the stock settings.
  6. Launch control has been enabled.
  7. Throttle response is much sharper with the PedalBox Pro, making the car feel more lively, especially in urban settings.

Review of the PedalBox Pro on Virtus 1.0 TSI AT

  1. The PedalBox Pro enhances throttle response but doesn’t alter power delivery.
  2. It features four driving modes (Eco, City, Sport, and Sport+) with eight sensitivity levels for each mode.
  3. The City mode is ideal for both city and highway driving, making overtaking effortless. Sport and Sport+ modes are extremely sensitive and best suited for spirited driving, not for city use.
  4. I’ve noticed no impact on fuel efficiency when using City mode, but there’s a drop when using Sport and Sport+.
  5. There’s a valet mode that limits speed to 20 km/h, and you can switch off the throttle for added security—this is a really useful feature.
  6. The package includes a handy remote and an app compatible with both iOS and Android.

Considerations

  1. Warranty: Be aware that remapping and aftermarket modifications can void manufacturer warranties.
  2. Driving Conditions: Performance gains may vary based on factors like altitude and climate.
  3. Professional Installation: It's crucial to have the remap and PedalBox installed by professionals to avoid issues.

Conclusion

I’ve enjoyed my Virtus since day one, whether on the stock map or after the Stage 1+ TOT remap. After some research to address specific driving issues, I’m thrilled with how the remap has resolved all my concerns.

Thanks for sharing your observations. I am also on the same boat with my 1.0 TSI and looking for a remap. Could you share some more details about the power figures and the vendor? TIA.

Re: VW Virtus 1.0 TSI AT | Stage 1 Remap & PedalBox Pro Review

Well written post, thanks for sharing. Can totally relate to the sour points that you mentioned which ideally VW should have refined from the factory.

Given the sheer number of VW 1.0 TSi owners on our forum and even visitors who visit on the internet, I think others would benefit from where you did the remap, potential pricing, power figures post the remap etc. Right now there isn’t much about that.

Also, remapping the engine will 100% void the warranty of your engine and gearbox, esp with VW and Skoda India!

I would suggest ICD tuning- Chennai for professional engine tuning and other hardware upgrades as well. They also give you best after sales support too.

Pricing for Stage 1+ ECU Remap: Rs. 27000 (Includes free Stage 2 ECU Remap).

Power Figures on Stage 1+: 140HP / 256Nm

Thanks for the post! I’d love a bit more detail around this as I am driving a Virtus 1.0 TSI MT and feel a lag at lower speeds and lower gears only within the city.

I’m really confused whether I should go for a stage 1 tune or a plug n play throttle modifier like PedalBox Pro or GotBoost Pro as seen on social media. I’d really appreciate if you could help me with this. Would a tune improve my driving experience within the city or the device? Also, how is Stage 1+ different than Stage 1?

Any details around the cost and vendors that you could share will be highly helpful too. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for sharing this. Did you also get the brakes upgraded? With 140 Bhp it's close to GT's number. However, GT has a different brake setup to support this.

A Stage 1+ tune would be a solid choice if you're looking for a bit more power and slightly reduced lag. Adding a throttle response controller can enhance the feel of acceleration, offering a snappier response. However, it won't directly increase the car's power or reduce lag.

Stage 1+ is quite similar to a standard Stage 1 tune, with the main difference being the option to add a performance air filter like BMC or K&N.

A Stage 1+ tune typically costs around 27-30K, and adding a Pedal Box increases the total by an additional 35K.

Thanks for sharing your before and after tuning observations. I am also planning to do stage 1+ at ICD tuning.

I have Slavia 1.0 TSI MT. I have observed engine runs smoother and peppy, when I use XP95 fuel. With standard fuel at lower gears engine lugs sometimes when giving no or less throttle in heavy traffic. Wondering whether others experience the same.

1. Do you have any observations with standard vs high octance(95+) fuels before and after your tuning?
2. Also the performance figures (140 HP and 256 NM) was it with standard or with high octance fuel?

Thanks
DJ

Hey,

1. There is definitely a good difference when using XP95 fuel, and it comes highly recommended.

2. Yes, it’s definitely recommended to use only XP95, and I’ve been using it from the start, for achieving this performance figures.

Re: VW Virtus 1.0 TSI AT | Stage 1 Remap & PedalBox Pro Review

Thanks for starting this thread! I own a 2024 Virtus 1.0 MT that's already running a BMC airfilter and custom catback exhaust. Just got the Stage 2 remap done by TOT in Bangalore. Will be installing a custom downpipe in the next couple of days. Will post pics and review once done. This is going to be a very interesting thread for many 1.0 Virtus owners soon!

Re: VW Virtus 1.0 TSI AT | Stage 1 Remap & PedalBox Pro Review

Thoroughly enjoying the car, especially the sound post the full system exhaust. Still has 2 resonators/mufflers though, I don't want to be anti-social, just want to enjoy the car more. My heart still thinks I maybe should've gone for the 1.5 TSI instead of all this madness, but it is what it is!

Surprisingly the car is only half a length ahead compared to my friend's Code6 tuned 1.0 Virtus in a flat out run for about half a km. My tuner (TOT) claims their map is tuned for reliability and longevity compared to Code6 aggressive tune. The quest for more still exists and I'll probably be asking my tuner to make the map more aggressive if possible. Attaching some pics.

I would like to clarify, the brakes of the Virtus 1.0 and 1.5 GT are identical, if anything the 1.0 should be able to achieve marginally better braking distances owing to its lower weight.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Could you please share images and a detailed review of the pedalbox - specifically highlighting how to switch between the different modes of the PedalBox, the alternations done to the car (beside the ECU) to install the PedalBox, etc.
Secondly, a performance comparison video would be beneficial to others ( like me ) considering this solution.
Lastly, a detailed comparison with the other tuners you considered would be helpful too.

helpful too.
I don't think that's the right information. Though I am not sure about the disc size, the GT and 1.0 TSI have different brake pads with different part numbers. Also one costs around 4.5K while the one on GT costs around 6.5-7K. So, I don't think these are the same. You may check with your SA for confirmation.

The 1.0 Brake discs and pads are smaller in size. The 1.5 shares its setup from the Audi A3 as per my understanding. Neither the brake disc nor pad nor caliper is identical.

Re: VW Virtus 1.0 TSI AT | Stage 1 Remap & PedalBox Pro Review

Hello All,

Own a virtus 1.0 litre automatics as well , did a stage 1+ with engineering exponents bangalore (wolf performance) , outright performance improvements felt the acceleration was smooth.

On highways before we can blink its on 120 , the stock tires do contribute to the wheel spin which i might upgrade to verdestein.

Also the gain in hp is 15% and not more so we can expect close to 130 hp when modded. And everybody mentioned low end torque is good but i dont think it will completely go off , this might be due to the automatic gearbox and in manual transmission you might never face it.
