Meguiar's product review

I purchased four Meguiar's products back in June. Why Meguiar's? some may ask. It's because every detailing video I have ever watched, Meguiar's was always there in the top recommendations.


Items I bought -

1. Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant Spray, 473ml.
   
   
2. Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax, 473ml.
   
   
3. Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner, 473ml.
   
   
4. Meguiar's Supreme Shine Thick Deep Microfiber.

Total cost - ₹ 2454 including taxes.

Purchase and delivery experience

The purchase and delivery experience with Planet car care was absolutely phenomenal. Ordered the items on 01 June 08:43 AM and received the items the next day i.e 2 June at 10:00 AM. I have never received an order this swiftly. (If you live down south expect more delivery time as they are based in Delhi)


Like's (Planet car care)

• Swift delivery (literally in 25 hours).
• Packaging. (All products were taped (nozzles and caps (see first picture)) and wrapped in bubble wrap & taped nicely)
• Frequent email and SMS update as order processing reaches next step.

Dislike's (Planet car care)

• Shampoo was manufactured in 11/2022 (1.5 yrs old) While others were manufactured in 2023.
• Stuff (cardboard & paper) used to fill the box could have been better, it felt like they took them from a dustbin.

Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant Spray

This is the product that you use for all the plastic panels of the car, from door panels to dashboard. It helps in retaining the natural color and shine of the plastic by blocking the UV rays and defend against cracking, fading and aging of the plastic.


Composition - Thick white liquid.

Likes

• Nice fragrance.
• Not greasy and easy to apply.
• Enhances the color of the plastic.

Dislikes

• Cost.
• Too many warnings/precaution mentioned will make you wonder is it safe to use. (Note - I didn't get any skin allergy/ other problems after using the product)
• Don't like the spray modes. (Give circular cutout, please)

Modes - There are three modes - OFF, wide circular spray and straight spray.

How to use

I have used the product three times since I bought it, the best and easy way is to keep it at straight spray mode and press the trigger firmly while keeping the nozzle as close as you can toward the area where you want to apply or simply apply it onto the microfiber cloth and rub that to the desired area. If you use wide circular spray it will cover a larger area and will get onto other parts and you will have to wipe the excess liquid off. A simple circular cutout would have been much better than the spray.

Tip - Apply it early in the morning or late in evening (cabin will be cooler)

Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner

Likes

• Nice fragrance.
• Compatible with snow foam cannons. (thick foam)
• Remove bird dropping like nothing.
• Loosens the dirt and make cleaning easier.

Dislikes

• Cost.
• Again, too many warnings/advisory mentioned. (Note - I didn't get any skin allergy/ other problems after using the product)

Press the cap and use the small rectangular cutout which pops up to get the shampoo out or simply remove the top cap or remove the whole cap. Personally, I remove the whole cap and use the cap as measurement tool.

If you have a foam canon and a pressure washer, it is going to be very easy washing the car with this shampoo as it loosen the dirt, mud and bird drops easily, all you have to do is spray the foam and see the sheeting in action. Since, I don't have it so I had to use wipe down method and was amazed by how easily the dirt came off (I used the ultimate wax 20 something days ago, maybe it is helping too).

Meguiar's Supreme Shine Thick Deep Microfiber

I bought this because it is recommended to use this particular microfiber cloth with the ultimate quik wax so I thought why not give it a try. At first I was not convinced with the quality but after a wash it has become soft.

Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax

Composition - Water like liquid with hue of white.

Modes - There are two modes - OFF and wide spray.

This is the product I love the most. During first application I struggled a bit as the microfiber cloth would stick making it somewhat hard to wipe as I was being too gentle but as I kept on going I got a hang of it.

Likes

• Water beading.
• Adds shine & surface feel smooth to touch.
• Bring some life to the color (During first application I wasn't fully convinced but after recent use and seeing the result I can say yes, it does bring life to the color)
• Nice Fragrance.

Dislikes

• Cost.

How to apply

As per the instructions provided with the product, You can use it under the sun/shade, dry, wet, hot or cold (surface). Just shake well before use.

• Spray on the surface (lets say bonnet).
• Use the Microfiber cloth to wipe/spread to cover full surface.
• Use dry portion of the microfiber cloth and dry as you normally would.

Tips

• Use it only when car/surface is clean.
• First wipe would need little persuasion.
• Use two microfiber cloths, first to spread the liquid and second for drying. It will make the process easy, as you don't have to flip the cloth again and again.
• Always use the (same) wet portion of the cloth (cloth will get somewhat wet, no completely soaked) for the first wipe of the whole car as it will help in spreading the liquid and will save some quik wax too. (dry cloth would soak the liquid)
• Wait 5-10 seconds after first wipe, let the body soak the liquid.
• When to stop wiping - the microfiber cloth will glide like a butter.
• If the surface is not wiped properly you would see some wipe marks on the surface but don't worry just use the dry cloth and wipe it again. It happens because that portioned wasn't wiped properly or you sprayed more than needed.

Good review. Will make a small point regarding the safety warnings, nearly every product we use when detailing (irrespective of brand) is potentially carcinogenic and the exposure levels required are rather low (for repeated use).

So always work in well ventilated areas and wear a mask + nitrile gloves. As the saying goes, if it’s on your skin or in your nose, it’s inside you.

Also, Meguiar’s is actually quite cheap on the pricing front compared to higher quality brands, but those have better performance as well so it’s a fair fight in that sense.

(Quick tip: spray into the application towel at point blank range instead of directly on the paint), this eliminates any overspray on glass and more importantly greatly minimises the aerosolised particles in the air you’re breathing.)

I've been using a couple of Meguiar's products since 2019. Back in 2018 when we brought home a used Civic, it had a ton of clear coat damage and mineral deposits all over the body.

Didn't know a dime about detailing back then. Dived deep into YouTube and learnt every single thing by watching detailing videos and finally decided to do the detailing on my own.

Bought every single accessory including the polishing machine, pads, clay bar and Meguiar's Compound and Polish. Both of them were retailing at around Rs.900 in Amazon.

Used the compound extensively to get rid of the clear coat damage and I should say, it did wonders. Since then, I've been using the polish regularly and it just gives the car a much needed shine especially ours being a black car.
