Performance MODS for ALTO lxi

guys, currently my bro is planning on getting some performance mods on his alto lxi(2007 model). firstly decided to go for a FFE and K&N, but i have no idea about which K&N model suits the alto best and i dont want to go for stock replacement filter, so guys , give your suggestions about the suitable K&N model numbers(both universal and eXtreme series), FFE sourcing.

secondly , is there anyother performance mods that can be done to this ride? ECU related stuff and other underhood stuff.

the most important constraint is that i have to get it all done in chennai itself, so please share your knowledge about sourcing these stuff from chennai.

Why don't you check with our resident member Zakko(speedzak) bro' ?

He had a conical filter with a FFE setup done on his Alto. Am sure he should be able to guide with the upgrades.

As for chennai , where are the thambi's and annai's ?

i think he should first get a conical air filter and a free flow. then he can get the viper tri-phase.

i agree akshay, but i want the exact K&N model number that would suit the ride. and what exactly is this tri-phase and what does it do??

i would suggest you contact Viper or drive to coimbatore kitup - kitup can also send you the appropriate!
Recommended performance upgrades would be a free flow, k&n!
tri-phase thats all lard! (as of what i have heard)

if you want to go crazy, here is a list
1. engine swap 1.1 litre
2. conical filter
3. free flow
4. (here is the best part - plonk a turbo)

i have known some people who have succeeded and failed at the same.

and as for the k&n model i don't think there is any appropriate one!

engine swap and turbo not feasible right now..and remember guys, i want everything done in chennai itself.so..sourcing?? and please tell me about the tri-phase (what it does?)

Hi 'BadBoy', I own a 2000 Alto Vxi, with the F10D motor. And over the past year fitted a free-flow exhaust, a sports muffler, increased compression, & had the head ported & polished. It's also got a Simota cold-air intake, OWS Iridium plugs, better wires, 13" Plati rims, & 165/65xR13 GoodYear tires. All the work was done through SpeedWorks - it's at the corner of Wallace Garden 2nd Street & Numgambakkam High Road. I think they in-turn had the 'mechanical' stuff (porting, polishing, free-flow exhaust) done at Electra Performance, on the OMR, 2 Kms from Tidel park.

Recently I contacted RaceDynamics regarding their stand-alone ECUs, I did consider APEXi, but I'm not sure if it'd be tuned for an engine that's not usually 'modded'. It seems that the RaceDynamics ECU is compatible with the F10D & I'm planning to get it in a few weeks. I'm also looking at a good set of DeFi gauges & NOS. The very best of luck with the mods !

thanks akshay,aswant and srini.. and hey srini can you please let me know how much did each mod cost separately? . is the simota cold air intake doing any good in chennai conditions?. mine is not a 1.1L engine, instead it is the 800cc

Hi BadBoy, here's roughly what the mods costed...

0. Sports muffler (9.5K)
1. Free-flow exhaust (17.5K)
2. Simota cold-air intake (23.5K)
3. OWS Iridium plugs (3K)
4. Plug wires (6K)
5. Porting & polishing (15K)
6. Compression increase (3.5K)

I'm awaiting a set of performance cams for my engine, sourced through SpeedWorks/Electra.

You could contact Electra directly & possibly get lower quotes for the stuff listed. The Simota intake sounds cool, but really is drowned out by the exhaust ! I'm not sure how it's doing under Chennai's dusty conditions, but I only drive around 15Kms per day... I recently, switched from Mobil1 to OWS, will check if the filter's letting dust through & let you know...

this was the quote i got from N1 engineering(speedworks) a few weeks before:

exhaust system=7.5K + VAT
NGK plugs= 2150
MSD cables=4750
pipercross filter- 3630

what say guys?? and i wanna know the FFE price for alto from automech and K&N universal and eXtreme filters, any ideas about the latest price??

plugs and cables are a waste. they dont help a slightly modded car at all. i suggest you buy a tri-phase. btw-i got my headers+freeflow+ractive conical+pipe+installation for 12k from viper. they were for my getz.
