EVCX Ultimate 9 Throttle Enhancer Review

Quite by Chance I happened upon this rather magical toy, this EVO X Ultimate9 Throttle Enhancer. I thought I would begin this thread to share info about it because the Product deserves it.

The claim made was Bye Bye to lag and hesitation between one’s stomping the pedal and the reaction of the vehicle. And Welcome to instant throttle response and efficiency including better FE.

At first, I tended to view it with some skepticism rather like an uninitiated apprentice might view a sorcerer.

All credit for opening my eyes, to Brother Guru (gsferrari) and his posts on the Jimny thread.

So upon reading his notes and exchanging WhatsApp messages I judged that it was worth a try and immediately talked to Ajit, the owner of Tapasvi, a real petrolhead with ‘taste’ (he owns a lovely Mitsubishi EVO amongst other petrol and diesel driven toys both small and large); and he is the importer of these rather excellent little electronic throttle enhancers.

So on the spot, last night, during my conversation with Ajit I decided I must have this new bit of wizardry fitted in my Thar and shortly in my Cooper too. So I toodled along early morning to Ajit’s lovely Yogisthaan cafe in Indira Nagar, Bangalore and met Luka his Manager. (They open at 0730) do I can actually sit here and attend work meetings too, which I am doing as I write.)

It was a simple procedure to fit the new toy and set up the mobile app because it can be controlled manually with those buttons or with the mobile via Bluetooth. There are many modes to play with and I am yet to get started.

It sits quietly and unobtrusively in the car, plugged in-between the Accelerator wire and the ECU, subtly altering the throttle responses and making the whole experience more efficient as well as enjoyable. No cutting and chopping and messing about with the original wires. No detriment to any of the car’s sensors and cruise control etc. A simple elegant plug and play solution.

I can tell you from the short test drive I took, the difference felt in throttle response is H-U-G-E. Just the thing for anyone who loves to drive.

I am going to add some photos here and will write more about this after driving my Thar a little more.

If anyone is interested in this please call or WhatsApp Ajit on +91 99307 77800 - gsferrari had earlier published this number on the Jimny thread and I am doing the same on this thread as well.

This is one of those "I told you so!" moments. I've been watching videos of throttle tuners way before the Jimny booking was done and I honestly didn't think it would make such an impact.

I have a question for you though: When is your Jimny coming?

True that. I was also amazed by the difference this tiny circuit box makes in the performance of the ride.
I'm just curious. How much does the EVCX cost? I have put the wind booster GT but I thought that 17000 was way overpriced.

Re: EVCX Ultimate 9 Throttle Enhancer Review

EVC throttle controllers are very popular in Australian market and it does make a big difference without altering engine or powertrain. Of course there is no net performance gain and all what you get out of EVC throttle controllers can be achieved by properly modulating the A pedal, but it still makes the city driving a lot better.

I have one in my Pajero Sport for last 3 years and am very happy with it. It was the very first mod (Ownership Review | 2018 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport | Now at 43,000 km) I did. In city driving conditions and 2 lane undivided highways I use U3 mode and 4 lane highways I use cars own map.

There is another advantage in typical off-road conditions where one may need performance muted and need better control. I generally use E2 mode while I am off-road especially crawling up or down in low range.

Edit: it's much cheaper here as well. One may find brand new for AUD170 on sale or even cheaper from FB marketplace.

Re: EVCX Ultimate 9 Throttle Enhancer Review

I liked this Throttle enhancer so much on my Thar that I went and bought and fixed one for my Mini Cooper too.
The Cooper being a little old and slightly sensitive, I got the unit from Tapasvi and their Manager Luka came along to help me get it installed at 6th Mile Customs in Indira Nagar. Thomas the owner himself saw to it. Tapasvi and 6th Mile luckily are within a couple of streets of each other.
One may argue that the Cooper S is already a performance vehicle but I must tell you all that there is a palpable difference felt even in this vehicle, with this throttle enhancer.
It is a very good and ingenious little gizmo indeed. Im going to get one for my Dad’s Toyota Glanza too. For sure that car needs it.

Re: EVCX Ultimate 9 Throttle Enhancer Review

So as I have said before I really like the effect of this Throttle enhancer/ controller. As I was visiting my Dad I went to Ajit of Tapasvi in Bangalore early morning yesterday en route and grabbed one of the normal EVC’s so as to fix in my Dad’s Toyota Glanza. I didn’t choose the EVC X because Dad anyway wont use the mobile app etc to control it, preferring to use the buttons instead. There is an immediate and palpable difference in the behaviour of the Glanza. The enhancer gives this naturally aspirated 82 bhp engine that ‘necessary’ juice by removing the lag and flat spot. Dad was very pleasantly surprised at the difference in the vehicle’s behaviour. I am too. Because honestly it is cars like this that benefit maximum from this gadget.
We fitted it in Madras in Adyar with the help of my good bud Guru (gsferrari) at his ‘preferred fitment place’ . Of course it was great to meet him too sincee we have so much in common which cements the friendship and brotherhood.

Im a happy customer of EVC!

Same product fits both Glanza and Baleno.
Same connectors. Part is EVC 931.

Are these throttle controllers made for specific car models or generic which can be tuned to any car?

I have a K15C XL6, will the Jimny controller fit?

A question for @shankar.balan / @gsferrari or others who have installed the Ultimate9 throttle controllers.
Can you just disconnect the display unit and leave the controller plugged into the A-Pedal at times such as leaving the car for service? If so, will it function in the last set mode?
Thanks in advance.

To the best of my knowledge, they are made for manufacture and engine combinations, not vehicle specific. I was told that if the connectors fit, then it can be used in any car. You can check ultimate9's website or other third party websites like https://automotivesuperstore.com.au/...roller-evc901l and see the compatibility.

Why do you want to do that?? For warranty purposes??

All car dealers sell idrive in Australia. I haven't tried removing the idrive display unit but I doubt it will work after the removal.
You can mount the display unit with a Velcro tape behind it and tuck that inside the dashboard when you need (instead of removing)

It'll remain in the mode you set before disconnecting the display unit. Mine is fixed with velcro for this exact purpose.

Ultimate9 evcX throttle controller works through mobile app even if display module is disconnected. I am using TC many times without display unit connected.

Re: EVCX Ultimate 9 Throttle Enhancer Review

The throttle table in the ECU is intentionally calibrated smoothly by factory such a way that the plate inside throttle body open less at low speeds, otherwise the car may become jerky in stop-and-go traffic. If you open it too much, your ankle will only hurt during throttle pedal modulation. It has to be very linear.

There is nothing wrong with using this device, but it is good to know what it is doing. Instead of editing the values in the ECU, it sends a false voltage signal to Throttle Pedal Sensor (accelerator pedal) fooling the ecu.

For example
Before = you press pedal 10%, throttle opens 15%
After = you press pedal 10%, throttle open 40%

This gives driver false sense of power. Also keep in mind, if you open throttle earlier then more air will enter the engine, and more fuel will be required to balance the Air Fuel Ratio.

If the device goes kaput for some reason, i hope it doesnt send 100% open throttle signal = may lead to accident.

Another sophisticated way of doing it is editing the tables in the ecu, you have more control over what you want and when you want. Ofcourse, if you want to revert it back, then you will need to edit the ECU again.

Normally, the factory setting is good enough as it covers wide variety of driving situations.

An example of Throttle table in the ECU, notice how it opens less and low rpms.

Re: EVCX Ultimate 9 Throttle Enhancer Review

Now most of the modern cars especially high end cars have Drive Mode selectors. Normally they have the option to select either Eco mode or Normal mode or Sports mode.
To my understanding this functions by altering the throttle pedal response provided to ECM. So does the after market throttle controllers do. Hence it is quite unlikely that using a TC would harm the engine. Even the shifting of gears (AT) becomes faster & the rpm does not go that high as it does in stock condition.
In my opinion fitting a TC in Jimny gives you confidence that you can easily manage the car in tricky situations when sudden acceleration required. At times one gets quite nervous while overtaking a long trailer or like vehicles on a highway when Jimny fails to quickly respond to acceleration required for overtaking.
It all depends on how judiciously one uses the modes. Adaptive mode in a TC is totally safe as it is completely dependent on driver. It gives power the way driver regulates the throttle pedal.
I feel throttle controller is a must in a sluggish vehicle like Jimny. Using a TC gives me confidence that my Jimny is capable of giving me power as & when I need it.
