Adding a sliding, adjustable middle row to my SUV / MPV

Hello..

Quick question.. As I understand, the XUV700 (and Scorpio N) middle rows don't slide forward or backward.. has anyone tried any after market or service center based modification to this - to change the rails and put slideable rails? Any recommendations of the dealer or shop which can do this reliably? Does this mod affect the warranty?

Thank you very much!!!

Vikram

Re: Adding a sliding, adjustable middle row to my SUV / MPV

Bad idea. Installing rails means drilling the floor or welding on the floor - 7 layers used to protect the vehicle for from rust are breached and chances of a rusty floor increase significantly. Water ingress through the drill holes is a big possibility. Also, OE installed seats are tested for integrity in an accident. Who will certify that the seat rails will not give way when the vehicle is in an accident or during hard deceleration?

One word feedback - Don't

Related Discussion (What's stopping manufacturers from offering adjustable rear seats?)

I think it's very stupid of any manufacturer to not offer this flexibility in any large SUV / MPV on sale in India. Why not give customers the flexibility to decide 3rd-row legroom? There are a lot of considerations before you can do this though. It is possible, but only after careful consideration.

- Keep in mind that it will be easier to slide the middle row "forward" from its current position, than to make it go anymore "behind".

- Is the floor height the same, behind the middle row?

- Are wheel wells blocking the seat movement?

- You need a reputable vendor or OEM-grade parts.

- Seatbelt anchors etc. (will vary from car to car).

Mr. Boss had additional points:

- Rear floor is higher than the front (boot is further higher in most cases) making it bit complicated to have a sliding structure
- Adding sliders below the seat base will increase the H-Point by another 1 inch (at-least & approx) which affects the Head room
- Split seat + slider needs additional space between both pieces which makes it a 2 seater rather than 3 seater
- Cost saving
- To escape from NVH issues

Re: Adding a sliding, adjustable middle row to my SUV / MPV

Apologies if this is slightly off topic.

I own an XL6, wanted to check if anyone has done a middle row seat swap with one that folds completely flat.
Currently the middle row captain seats folds only upto around 45 deg.

Re: Adding a sliding, adjustable middle row to my SUV / MPV

No offence to anyone but WHY should one be so much bothered about aftermarket fitment when we all know that it will for sure VOID the warranty (most of us pay for the extended warranty).

Better to focus on innovation in making our dream cars, experimenting on used vehicles rather than getting anxious on making changes on the new under warranty vehicles.

In fact, what about a separate thread for after market fitment (after the warranty is over) where we have the entire platform for us to brainstorm and even discuss and share innovation.

Re: Adding a sliding, adjustable middle row to my SUV / MPV

+1 to GTO's statement "I think it's very stupid of any manufacturer to not offer this flexibility in any large SUV / MPV on sale in India".
Due to this limitation, none of XUV700/XUV500/Scorpio-N fit my requirement. In absence of sliding middle row, the third row is unusable for even short adults. Otherwise each of these cars are great in terms of space, safety and performance. Only Mahindra MPV which usable third row is Marazzo. However Marazzo does not have automatic transmission and may not remain on sale for long.
