AutoCop has shut down | Replacement for car remote?

Hello Fellow BHPians,

I had an Autocop car remote system installed in my Swift LXi back in 2011-12 and it has been working fine till now. It’s primarily used for car lock/unlock and for power windows.

I have replaced its batteries on the remote fob too a couple of times and it never gave me any issues. However, recently despite new batteries, the remote unlock and lock function seems erratic. I have to press the lock/unlock button several times or sometimes hold it for 6-7 seconds and only then it locks/unlocks after several attempts. And the way it is wired is that if I use my car keys to unlock, the Autocop siren gets switched on and it’s a nuisance.

I’ve just found out that Autocop has shut shop in India (read it in a thread here in Team BHP forum). I also took my car to a Maruti Service Centre and they refuse to touch it.

Can someone here suggest what are my options given this is a 12 year old car?

Is there a replacement option with another company’s car remote?
Any recommendations and estimated pricing for those?

I still intend to use this car regularly and plan to sell it or exchange it within the next 1-1.5 years. I am actively searching for my next car - I may mostly wait for the re-launch of Skoda Octavia/Superb.

I live in Bangalore and would appreciate any local guidance on this.

Thank you.

You can always get an aftermarket keyless entry kit which is a universal fitment. The actuators need not be changed, but the remote module alone can be changed which will work with your new remote. Some popular brands are Nippon, myTVS, and BlackCat. I would suggest going to a shop where they sell Nippon remote locking systems for your car.

I think you can pay a visit to any of the shops in JC road, and they'll be able to do it for your car. Ask for Nippon, as they were Maruti OE and they lasted for a good 10 years on my dad's car.

There's also another option - You can ask one of these specialists to get a universal remote and pair it to your existing system.

If the remote has failed, it is likely that other components may also fail in a 12 year old system. I would rather get the whole remote locking system changed to something new, from a reputed company. I don't expect it to be too expensive, anywhere between 3-6k.

Get a contact cleaner spray (3M etc) and spray the circuit board where the buttons make the contact. Also spray the buttons itself (the surface that makes the contact). This will help greatly. Had a similar issue with the cruise control button on my Laura, couldn't afford to replace it every couple of months and did this, worked great till the car had to be scrapped.

Re: AutoCop has shut down | Replacement for car remote?

Hello Everyone,

I am planning to buy ignis sigma base model that does not come with Remote Central locking. I have seen that Nippon Remote locking is provided as an MGA by dealers but it comes with a seperate fob instead of combining the key.

Is there any brand that is reliable enough or shall i just go with Nippon and accept the inconvenience of carrying around a extra key fob.

Since Maruti is providing a Nippon locking system through the dealer, chances are high that your warranty is still valid. I would say go with this option, as it is quite reliable and safer in the long term. If you are really finding the additional remote separate from your key a nuisance, you can always ask a local keymaker who specialises in computerised keys and spare keys to make a spare key along with remote for your car.

I have the same setup for my Civic, bought an XHorse branded keyfob from a keymaker shop nearby. Costed me 2.5k.

Attaching a picture of the same below-

The key folds into the frame of the remote fob-

Hope this helps

Correct me if i am wrong, but what you are saying is to install the Nippon system and just swap the key and remote fob into a single key by just matching the correct frequency without changing the other components!?

There isn't any need to mess with the original key and remote. You can keep that, and get a new spare remote key fob which can be programmed to your Nippon system by matching the frequency. So, essentially you will be having three sets of keys for your car.

Hello CzechItaliaMoto,

Thank you for your idea, i searched around in my locality for a shop that does this and found a few. Took the most value for money option that i could find which was to tear one key and take the RF chip inside and place it inside a new spare remote key and match it to the car. It costed me 1800rs for the whole process. I dont not go for the flip keys as i found the normal key itself okay for me.
