Cool & Classy Magnetic Smartphone Mount for the dashboard

Cool & Classy Magnetic Smartphone Mount for the dashboard-picsart_230119_151315965.jpg

Sharing some details of this neat little phone-mount i got for my Thar, which fits perfectly between the blank space of the central AC vents. This is a magnetic phone mount, so one has to stick the provided slim magnetic plate on the back of one's phone. The mount itself is very well designed, it sticks on to any flat surface and offers sufficient adjustments to tilt the phone as per one's preference. My Samsung Note10 fits perfectly between the AC vents (when placed in portrait mode) without blocking the airflow. Since this is a magnetic mount, one can place the phone at any angle (perfect for playing videos in landscape alignment when the vehicle is stationary). I've been using this mount for the last 3 days over smooth and pothole ridden roads across Mumbai and found it to be perfectly sturdy, with no disconnection issues while using Android Auto. By placing the phone here also frees up space to store other items in the central dash area.

I though of sharing this here if anyone is looking for a similar phone storage solution. The product is on amazon titled SKYVIK TRUHOLD Multiway Magnetic Smartphone Mount for Car Bedside Office Kitchen or Vanity, here is the link for the same: https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Cheers!

Thanks for sharing, Nair.V8! Moving your post out to a new thread so as to spread the word. A new thread means 100X the views & 100X the visibility in search engines, including Google.

I saw this mount yesterday & it is a really sweet holder, the best I've seen.

@ BHPians, if you should spot any good post in an existing thread that deserves its own new thread, please report the post and we'll move it out for greater visibility.

Thank you!

Here are a couple of alternatives. Blackstar.
Our fellow member Bibendum90949 first told me about these in 2021. I’ve fixed one each in my Thar and Gypsy.
Unable to find the right spot to fix it in my Cooper.
I also use a more conventional windshield suction mount which I move from vehicle to vehicle as needed.

Thanks for the link to this mount. Got it a few days back. Super mount!

The phone just doesn't come off! I have a heavy S22 Ultra.
We went on a crazy offroad a couple of days back with Doc from LearnOffroad in Dehradun. The phone remained properly stuck to the mount! Great mount! Super magnet!

Thanks for sharing this. Can you tell me the length and width of the base? I am wondering if it would work in the Thar Crde. Thanks in advance.

Re: Cool & Classy Magnetic Smartphone Mount for the dashboard

I was using a similar mount meant for Magsafe compatible cases / phones. Stuck the mount to the same central area. https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B0B38P9TF8/

A lock nut is used to tighten the magnetic base to the 17mm ball mount(glued to the center area between vents using 3M double sided tape). I had to keep tightening it since this is a friction fit and the car vibrations kept loosening it over time. The nut eventually cracked, making the entire mount useless. Amazon & ESR eventually refunded the amount.

In my search for a replacement I read about vibrations damaging the Auto-focus and OIS in our smartphone cameras. This led me on a search for vibration dampeners for mounts.

The only reputed solutions on the market seem to be RAM Mounts and Quadlock. Has anyone used these or some other product?

Here's a sample solution from RAM Mounts:

The center panel would have to be drilled to the attach the Track Ball Base mount in this, for a secure fit. This solution is bulky and in no way elegant, but I'm sure it will be safe and secure for mounting a phone. Wouldn't have to worry about vibration damage.

Have been using another product from the same brand; a much more compact option for last 2 years now. Works extremely good with all kinds of phones.

Anyone got these magnetic plate options to work with wireless charging. Is the magnet strong enough if the camera magnetic placed--say below the camera lenses.

Thank you for this. I will aim to order Blackstar Spiro MAG. I have the Zaap Windshield mobile phone holder but the mount has lost its hold now and I am looking for a replacement.

Blackstart Spiro MG has good reviews on Amazon as well and will give it a try.

Re: Cool & Classy Magnetic Smartphone Mount for the dashboard

I just bought the Ambrane Aerosynq Dash magnetic charger and phone holder. Found it interesting as the link between the magnetic holder and the sticky tape can be curved which makes it ideal for my Pajero GLX which does not have space to fix a phone at an easily viewable level. Will revert on how it performs over the weekend.

The ball and nut based ones are always problematic and pronee to loosening in my experience, even when new. If you don't tend to switch the holder between landscape and portrait orientations then it makes sense to superglued the ball after adjusting it to your ideal position.
