My Hyundai Verna 1.6L D SX(O) | With mods & customizations

Hello World!

*** Long Thread Warning! It has my Experience with Verna and Modifications done in it. As well as a reason to do it ***

My Name is Yogesh and I am going to share my experience, customizations, my happiness, and pain that I felt with my beauty Hyundai Verna 1.6D SXO.

To start with, I had a Palio 1.1 Car, then got my dream car punto evo... then as FIAT was closed down in India, I sold it Immediately and went for Sedan.

I had a few hatchbacks for over 6-8 years and thought it was time for me to take a step forward. So, while looking at various sedan's like

1. VW Vento
2. Skoda Octavia/Rapid
3. Maruti Ciaz
4. Honda City
5. Toyota Yaris
6. Hyundai Verna

decided to go with Verna. (Verna 1.6D SXO Model Manual - Top End)

All the above comes under my budget. Well, it’s been over 1 year and I barely remember the points to reject all and go with Verna. My Main decision breaker was

1. Mileage
2. Maintenance Cost
3. Service Center Coverage
4. Quality of Ride
5. Features aka value for money
6. Market Share (Least)

Verna came out of the blue for all these and I booked it in Advaith Hyundai - Dairy Circle Branch, Bangalore.

It was Red Color and Sort of Love at First Sight

Everything was fine with advaith except the delivery ceremony. It was raining and I had to take my delivery in the garage :(

Anyways, Got the car, loved the power and ride.
Before I start, I would like to share a few things... Likes and Dislikes.

Likes:
1. Ride quality is very good (Under 100)
2. Spacious Boot
3. Good Suspension
4. Really Nice Power for a Diesel Engine at this Segment
5. 6 Airbags is quite good and safety is good as well
6. Infotainment System is best in class as it has everything we need. (Carplay with Android Auto)
7. Interior looks very luxurious
8. Leather wrap in the steering wheel is quite good.
9. Driver Space and Seat is spacious and comfy!
10. Steering is smooth (has both + and -). If you ride in the city (normal speed), it's perfect, But not at Highspeed. More in Dislikes section)
11. Very Good Network of service centers and parts availability.
12. reverse camera with dynamic adaptive guidelines
13. Hand rest in the Rear (middle) is really good and comfy.

Dislikes:
1. Ground Clearance – Its way too low. I hit a lot of bumps.
2. Brakes – Its good but when you hit a bumper while applying, you will get a lot of pulsating.
3. Steering isn’t really good if you hit 130+. As its Electronic, and super smooth, At high speeds, it gets even more sensitive.
4. AC isn’t that great. It isn’t effective when outside temp is above 40c. It is good for day-day usage.
5. Mileage – Its not good. I get around 10kmpl in city and 14-16 in Highways with AC On. I was expecting 22+.
6. The Wireless Charge Space is way too small. Doesn’t fits my 11 Pro Max with its cover on.
7. AutoLink Eats up a lot of battery. I did a thorough investigation about this.

Now, I started digging up to research on how I can make this an Extra-Ordinary Car, and after a lot of research and considering my basic necessities/drawbacks, I went for these things.

Before I share them, let me tell you that I have earlier made my Punto Evo an Amazing Car by adding a lot of accessories into it. To Name some,

My Old Car Items:
1. HUD (Just like Volvo in USA)
2. TPMS (wasn't available that time on the market in India)
3. Front and Rear DVR (wasn't available that time on the market in India)
4. Portable Jump Start (wasn't available that time on the market in India)
5. Electric Jack and Wrench (wasn't available that time on the market in india)
6. T6 LED Torch (super bright - wasn't available that time on the market in India)
7. Android System with 4GB Ram (Sold it out)

These were just a few things that I felt necessary to add...

So, I booked my car for my birthday and got it delivered within 10 days.

I like everything about Hyundai except the responsiveness & the way the car was delivered. My Rep was sometimes responsive and sometimes (majority) didn’t pickup my call.

On the delivery day, It was raining and they were taking a lot of time as a Grand i10 was also being delivered. like no focus on my Verna :(

Later they delivered it on the garage. wasn’t really the delivery ceremony I expected with songs, claps etc. was a very very basic one like they are doing some favor to me by selling it. Anyways, given the situation, I understood and moved ahead.

So here my journey starts... Here is the list of modifications and items which I added.

MRF Prefinza Tyres (205/55 R16)
Changing Tires gave me better road control, mileage, and smoothness.

Ground Clearance Kit
Verna had a problem with low ground clearance (as per my research), So I got a Ground Clearance Kit Added. In Bangalore Roads, It's difficult to survive with low GC.

Link: https://www.flipkart.com/new-tech-hy...megcfgaeygzvwk

It was on Amazon earlier. It did a good job. I got it added via Advaith Hyundai Banashankari Center. (Really very good people in there. I always got the pleasant feelings and good work done there).

Fog Lamp Case – Not the Actual Lamp (From Local Shop)
Just for Looks

HID Kit (From Showroom – Osram DHB3 35W)
For Better Visibility as I drive a lot at night, on highways, and around hilly areas. It's totally awesome! I strongly suggest it.

DRL (From Local Shop)
I liked the way how it runs from left to right.. no other reason…

Honeycomb Front Grill
Just to give my car a sporty look.

Horn (From Showroom)
Roots – Skoda Type of Horn...

Visor (From Showroom)
Bladeless Wiper (From Local Shop)
Modular for Windows and OVRM's (From Showroom)
3M Sunscreen for Windshield and Rear (later got it removed)

Rear Bumper LED Lights
Just for Aesthetics.

Paint Protection Plastic Film for Whole Car
I had a very bad exp with my punto. I parked in the wrong place and the house tenants scratched the whole car with key.. I had to live with it for 3 years. So I decided to get the film added which will get me protection + preserve paint + no polishing n stuff will be needed.. just a basic wax polish will do the magic. I strongly suggest going for it if you have the budget. I never had to do any polish. I am using Maguers Ultimate Wax Polish. I just need to spray and wipe 3 times. The Car Looks really really good to me after that.

So this has many benefits.
1. No need of deep-multi-layered-polishing
2. Easy removal of dirt
3. Protection from scratches
4. Preserve original paint
5. Make the car look new in just 2 mins.

Reverse LED Light (Ali Express - Rear Fender Lights)
This is very much required as in dark environments; the reverse cam won’t be visible. The Visibility is really bad. With this, I get good lit-up Env.

K&N Air Filter
I have this on my bike too. I felt improved power and thrust in car after adding it. Really worth it.

Interior
Changed all Yellow bulbs to LED Light (I can see what’s in car now)

Bottom Flooring

7D Floor Mat

Seat Back Organizer (for rear to keep things)

Polk Speakers with Brazzo Amp
--Initially I had a lot of issues with wheezing sound. Amp, Tracked the engine sound and threw in speakers whenever I accelerate. I had to use some aluminum foil. None of the ground noise isolators worked out for me. We spent almost 2 weeks figuring this out.

Door Damping (Brazzo)

DVR (Front and Rear Cam)

TPMS

HUD
Got it from AliExpress when I had Punto. Still, I am using and it really looks good in dash and is easy to see speed while driving.

The only thing which I didn’t do is to customize ECU. I just don’t feel like touching the main ECU at all.

Few Feedbacks to Hyundai. Basically, it’s my biggest pain. (I really hope Hyundai can help me!)

1. Ensure Provision of BlueLink in 2017-2020 Verna’s.
2. Ensure Provision of Digital Cluster in same.

I really regret and felt quite bad when I saw new verna rolling out in just 5 months after my purchase. I badly wanted BlueLink and digital cluster. I believe, New Verna didn’t change entirely and its just a facelift version of Old ones. But service center people clearly denied the possibility of adding these things.

I know these can be added, But not sure why they aren’t allowing it in old vehicles. It’s just my bad luck and bad timings.

But I am quite happy with it.

To Do List:
Rear Bumper
ECU Mod
Digital Cluster
BlueLink

So far, I have driven 10,000KM~

Includes Steep Hill Drive, Forest Ride, Bumpy Roads, and Buttery Highways.

I really enjoy the car but will feel good and be loyal to Hyundai If they roll out some updates regarding BlueLink and Digital Cluster.

Bottom Line: You can go for it without any doubt. It provides ultimate comfort, Sheer Performance, and Quality Ride.

Service Cost – 3k-7k Approx.

Paint Protection Film was done by Auto Detail Care (https://goo.gl/maps/9BDPnLVm62oDdaFS7)

Rest all of the work is done by Bass Club Banashankari (Suresh is the person who did it! He is amazing!)

Great list of mods. How much did the ground clearance kit add in height. The link says 35-50mm which would make it like a SUV. How is the car's handling at high speeds with this added?

It is definitely increased. I haven't actually measured after that. What I realized is, it never hits any bump anymore! I maintain a tyre pressure of 36psi (both - all the time). I noticed increased smoothness while driving.

At high speeds during my trip from Bangalore to Goa, I had butterflies in my stomach! awesome experience. The only downside was the steering control which gets super sensitive at that speed.

On highways, I prefer to go around 100-110, and in that range. It's amazing (quality + control).
