Dear bhp'ians
I plan to upgrade from my sweetheart ZEN to a modern vehicle (C-suv preferred). What I dislike in all new cars is the center arm rest provision in the last row which results in uncomfortable middle seat for passengers.. Since my ZEN has full seats, it's as comfy as possible.. Also I'm not a fan of 60:40 split either.. I have few Qs for our tbhp experts:
1. Can we change the rear seat of new car to a full flat structure of something without the center armrest?
2. Can that be done while maintaining the rear seat belt position?
4. Will it void any manufacturer warranty ?
5. Any recommended store in BANGALORE for upgrading the rear seats?

Should be doable.

- Best would be if you like a car model without the 60:40 split.

- You could swap your 60:40 seat with someone who bought a lower variant. Showroom guys would be the best to find such a contact & the recipient might be only too happy to get the free upgrade.

- Else, just visit an aftermarket upholstery guy and have the entire rear seatback altered into one piece.

First time I'm hearing of a new car buyer wanting to convert a 60:40 into a single seat. Usually, people are desperate to do vice versa .

Lifting up the scalloped seat bases on either side to the same level as the center should do the trick, but needs a skilled upholsterer. That way, the seat buckles are left intact and as per factory fit.

Best to visit multiple shops on JC Road and listen to the car seat experts there. Only then should you make an informed decision .

No offence, but please take a TD of the prospective buys if you haven't already. IMO, 3-4 persons sitting in the rear seat will find a Nexon or XUV300 more comfortable anyday than the Zen, sculpted/flat seats notwithstanding.

Also more importantly, alongwith the centre armrest you will also lose adjustable rear headrests (safety and comfort) in the lower variants. You won't notice it in something like a Nexon (which feels like a sofa), but would definitely feel the difference in a Brezza. The rear seats in the base variant of the Brezza is atrocious to say the least. Even an Alto rear seats have some semblance of integrated headrests.

First thought that came to my mind. Would be super glad if I was buying the base variant of the Nexon/XUV300/Brezza and got the offer.

Same here. Thought it was a DIY happy Bhpian modifying his base variant seats to the 60:40 split one, like the Bhpian who converted his lap belt to a 3 point seatbelt.

Rather than give up the 60:40 seat permanently, can you get the sculpting removed by a good seat workshop ? Check if they can open the seat covers, remove the sculpting, and put the cover back on. This would be easier if you are going replace the OE seat covers with after-market covers.
